Five bucks says they blame the anime and not the adults who were clearly not watching the kids.

amyloveyou87 - March 10, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
You know they will.

kamon keronji - March 10, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
ditto. I think that would be pretty stupid of the parents to blame an anime over this. I mean it was their fault for not supervising their kids anyway. and the kids were pretty dumb if you ask me because I have never seen ANY kid at that age copy the things they do in naruto..at least not in that extreme fashion.

Speedycat - March 10, 2008 07:39 PM (GMT)
What the fuck does being buried HEAD FIRST have to do with Naruto?

Ah well, classic sensationalist story based on retarded parents and their dumb kids.

Miccy - March 10, 2008 08:14 PM (GMT)
I think the parents were probably annoyed with the fact their child watched the show, and used it as an excuse.

I remember coming home from my friends house (ones my mother didn't like) and I'd be yelled at by my mother saying that I acted just like them, and I didn't need to be hanging around them if thats how they acted.

Jnkolm - March 10, 2008 11:00 PM (GMT)
aye. You have to like that the sherriff's interviewing the 5 other boys like some sort of criminal syndicate activity. I would think it much easier to question a parent or two:

Question the first: Where in the world were you and why weren't you watching your children? I mean, what's wrong with you?

Question the second: Seriously, what's up with that?

Jack Thompson should totally jump on this, claiming that one of the Naruto RPGs was just a Grand Theft Auto rip-off designed to instruct kids on how to bury themselves in the sand. And then he can sue all of Japan for letting their writers create such a thing as Naruto. At this point I like to think someone lights him on fire...with a flamethrower..and runs over his ashes in a stolen car.

But really, at 10 years old (assuming he was the oldest) the kid should really know better, I've got/had cousins younger'n that who know that breathing is beneficial to living. Of course, they had parents that could teach them such incredulous facts. Unfortunately, a number of people would rather blame something, anything, to avoid...parenting, I know- it'll give you shivers.

Maybe he thought he could pull his head out using his own strength.

I don't think they could imitate being trapped in a ball of sand midair and being crushed with their friend's sand-kinesis....

...could they? @_@

They couldn't.

That's why the kid's in critical condition.

Actually if you click one of the links on the side, you find out he's dead. Died in the hospitol where they took him.

Centaura - March 12, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
Well, that was insensitive of me. I didn't see that yesterday.

It's too bad he died. I am getting a bit desensitized to this, though, after years and years of stories in the paper about kids drowning in fenced in pools because the parents were too busy doing something somewhere else.

This is the same thing. There's no way they were supervised.

KaiserMikeB - March 12, 2008 04:46 AM (GMT)
man, it must be the most emberrassing thing in the world to have your lame-ass Youtube video used in a news piece.

I don't really blame the parents, or Naruto. When I was 10 I played alone a lot. That's the age when kids DO wander around the neighborhood, get into the woods, etc. It's the funnest time of life, don't fuck it up with supervision.

Yuffie - March 12, 2008 10:07 AM (GMT)
Though is it worth a kid's life?

I dunno, around when I was 8/9/10 I didn't have a great deal of supervision, actually probably less then I do now, and miss it. But on the same token, thanks to lack of adult supervision, I did nearly drown in a swimming pool.

So yeah, I guess I'm a bit of a fence rider about it.

Vincent - March 12, 2008 01:20 PM (GMT)
Well, the problem isn't so much the lack of supervison, it's the fact that these parents are leaving these kids unsupervised without teaching them simple things, like THAT AIR IS NEEDED FOR LIFE.

QFT.

It's partly the supervision (how hard is it to sit near a window to look out every few minutes?), and partly the fact that, at 10 years old, you should have been taught that having your face entirely underground is a terrible idea.

And the kids who thought he was playing when he was flailing for his life? Okay. I guess I could see that. But at what point was it like, "Oh shit!"?

I know I was wandering around by myself at 10, but I also knew that suffocation = bad.

Someone failed somewhere, kid or parents.

Who knows...

KaiserMikeB - March 12, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
I've sort of decided that if my kid is a tool or a gimp or just plain dumb I rather he/she be weeded out, rather than becoming a burdon on society and living a difficult, unfulfilling life.

I know the secret to making new kids, so it's no big loss.

Lies! That secret has been lost to humanity for generations!

Yuffie - March 13, 2008 12:50 AM (GMT)
Although, good luck getting the baby making machine to cooporate after going through the fifth kid or so. xP

Krissy - March 13, 2008 01:40 AM (GMT)
It kind of sucks that the kid died (I didn't find out he died until like, last night)
Nonetheless, yeah, a 10-year-old should know that you can't breathe underground.
Then again, when I was 10 years old I swore up and down that in a couple years they would genetically engineer pokemon so we could have them as pets. Yes. I was a lonely child.

Well..They have been working on bringing dinosaurs back to life, cloning, and other genetic things... So technically this is entirely possible..
Personally, I'm still waiting for them to make a successful attempt at giving a human cat ears. Working or for looks, both are good.

Centaura - March 13, 2008 11:19 PM (GMT)
I know a guy who was trying to get government grants to be able to, not joking here, create Rei.

And clone her.

I'll stick with the T-Rex's and Pikachus, please.

LaughingmanGITS - March 14, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
You know, at age 21, I once jumped from a 7 story building because I thought I could channel my energy and fly like Son Goku from Dragonball Z. Or atleast summon a flying cloud to cart me off to safety.

I am sad to inform you I did not survive this adventure.

Kamiokande - March 14, 2008 04:10 AM (GMT)
That only works if you take LSD.
