Title: film room

alright, so I just had a random idea about possibly having one video room dedicated to showing full length anime movies. It could be open to popular vote of whoever is in there at the time, or set up a schedule for whatever ones we have or want to be seen. Like I said at the meeting last night, I'm big for Castle in the Sky, but then I saw mention of the Digimon movies and we could always add in others to the mix. Like one or two of the multiple Pokemon movies, InuYasha, Samurai X, or Escaflowne just to name a few.

so yeah, just an idea. wish I would have thought of this last night to say at the meeting XD oh well.

Sounds like a good idea...

But there are a few issues:

1) A good number of anime films are owned by Hollywood studios who require at least $300 to have a public screening of something they hold the copyright to. This is the reason why a lot of movies like almost everything Ghibli, and almost everything Satoshi Kon tend not to be shown at cons. Also with the Pokemon Movies, same deal. We are pretty much left with older anime films, and anime that aren't owned by the big studios (there are a many though...).

2) I like keeping things mixed up, if we only showed films in one room, it would limit the amount and types of shows we could show in others, and I really don't like that idea. We have a fair number of video rooms (like bad anime and docs) and adding yet another one would probably spread things too thin.

3) Following up on 1, fansubbers tend to only subtitle TV shows these days. Lots of anime films get released in Japan without any attention over here so this also limits the material we can show.

1. I wasn't aware that the movies based off of series were owned by big companies XD

2. I was initially thinking that there are the people who go solely to sit in the video rooms and maybe just a handful of panels (myself being one of them when I'm not working) and that a movie would be equal to 2-4 episodes depending on length without the interruption of the ending and opening credits in between. While they do give a short break for the traffic to switch out between episodes, it can tug the nerves a bit, especially the ones with slightly annoying title songs (like Spiral . . . love the anime, but the intro song gets annoying after hearing it a few times)

3. if anything else, I'm pretty sure we've got a few fansubbers in the club or possibly even someone who plans to come to the con. all we would have to do is post something asking for people to do it and possibly have already found where the video can be downloaded.

Also, it was just an idea, but it would be cool if we could get a movie or two

Movies will be part of the schedule, you don't have to worry about there not being any. A lot of my favorite anime are movies actually (Mindgame, Porco Rosso, Only Yesterday), so I have no problem with showing them.
