Title: First time cosplayer- I need your help!
Fortinbras86 - February 5, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
Hi ladies and gents :)
I'd like to cosplay this year but I've never put one together and I'm honestly at a loss for a good character to portray.
I'm male, 5'9" and 165 lbs. 30-32 inch waist, somewhat muscular. Natural Blonde, dark green eyes. I've got three more months to work out so I think I can get up to about 175 with the same waistline.
I had originally thought about doing Carbon Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist, but I don't know where Id get that deep purple/blue/black body paint.
Anyways, I'd say I can spend up to 100 bucks on clothes/materials, and I'm not planning on doing anything fancy, so I won't be entering for craftsmanship (i.e. I'm not going as something that'd require a lot of complicated patterns, my sewing skills are limited :nyan: )

I can help you with the paint! I'd say go with Ben Nye cream makeup, it's better for full body coverage than say... Kryolan; it sticks a little better since kryolan is water based and ben nye is oil based.

Well, you're a Mushishi fan-- why not Ginko?
It's kind of simple (or boring for some people), but I think it would be cool.

I will second using Ben Nye makeup. It's available on Amazon but the color definition they give isn't as accurate as I'd hoped. I ordered what I thought was pure white and it applied on as a silvery sparkle.
It can handle a lot though and will stay on for a while if applied with a sealant.

Well hmm...what are your top 5 favorite anime?

I am about to embark on my first cosplay. I think it's best to start off with something easy and work towards more complicated costumes. I was going to start with Revy from Black Lagoon and Haruhi.
As for the body paint. I'd just make sure to get some that wont run off on everything, and doesn't stain. But I haven't had much experience. I'll have to get some for Revy for her tattoo, but it won't be my entire body.

My Top 5:
1. Magical Shopping Arcade Abeno Bashi
2. Mushishi
3. Bleach
4. Berserk
5. Paradise Kiss
thanks for the link for the makeup; I'll pop over to the cosplay .com and see if anyone has a good color match for Greed.

Heh I remember my first cosplay. I was Android 17 from DBZ. Yeah...I was like 12 years old and wore the costume at Colossalcon 2 XD

Well, with your eye and hair color, you could easily cosplay Ginko.
just spray your hair white, and cover your left eye with your hair.
Add a fake cigarette, a white dress nehru collar shirt, sleeves rolled up, a pair of loafers, and simple kahkis, and BAM! take two long brown belts and a small rectangular cardboard box and there you go!

Under $30

ok based on your body type u have the potential to be a fangirl magnet if you so choose so lol, in my personal opinion you should do either cloud strief ... because from what it sounds like u look like him or toshiro hitsugaya because your about the right size and iver never seen a good one that wasnt a girl...

It's spelled Cloud Strife. I've never played any of the Final Fantasy games, and I know that.
And this is an anime con, not a gaming con.
