Title: Pokemon tournment rant
Description: Where Ohayocon screwed up
Yuffie - January 20, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
While I can excuse Ohayocon for stuff coming up that caused their tournament to be a mess, it was still very frusterating to feel to be dealing with staff that didn't seem to understand what the topic they were playing with. I mean, in serious battling, we want to be taken...seriously. So I took the time to ask the question at Ohayocon, what does a pokemon tournment need persae, what did people want to see? Well,
1.) First off, any tournament needs the basic rules. What are the basic rules? No doubles of any species, no doubles of any item, sleep clause(no more then one of your oponents pokemon may be put to sleep), and banning of the uber tier--
seen here 2.) Level caps. You have three choices, level 1, level 5, and level 100. Anything else is inane. Given any other choices, people will not be prepared. Edit:Four choices, I forgot about the common for ingame one, level 50.
3.)Have a pre-reg session for the tournment to check in every pokemon, or a system of some sort to report a pokemon that is obviously fucked up. The release of action replay has opened up the chance for there to be a lot of cheating in the game. Changing stats to abnormal, such as 999 for every stat, giving them weird moves like a pikachu with spacial rend, it makes things a little unfair. The easiest way to prevent cheating is actually via the kinda expensive but useful option of Pokemon Battle Revolution for the wii. It comes with a anti-cheating measure in place. (No fun in a way. >.>)
4.Feel free to try new things, and such. We can have normal battles any day.
KaiserMikeB - January 21, 2008 12:10 AM (GMT)
You should be the host of the tournament
Yuffie - January 21, 2008 02:10 AM (GMT)
Are you serious Mike? I mean, it's something I'd love to do however...how well is a short 16 year old hosting a tournment going to go over? I may be a little lacking in the maturity department as well, and I'd need free reign to make it work.
I may be better in the tip giving catogory.
Rakuen - January 21, 2008 03:47 AM (GMT)
Well, you could always get a big, mature 19 year old to tell them Yuffie is the lawgiver.
Or you could possibly get Jnkolm, but I don't know if that'd be terribly useful.
KaiserMikeB - January 21, 2008 04:28 AM (GMT)
If you have a sound tournament people will adhere to it.
Yuffie - January 21, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
Lol! Or just hang up posters all around saying 'Yuffie is lawgiver'. I wonder if I can get someone to make me a motivational poster with that on it.
Eh, fine Mike, I'll talk to you about it.
sesshouga - January 23, 2008 04:26 AM (GMT)
I'll adhere to you, Yuffie!
Yuffie - January 23, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
Ah, good to know there's at least one person. ^^
Yuffie - January 23, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
Not absolutely sure, but I guess I'm doing this.
Rakuen - January 24, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)
YAY, that means you'll be there.

Yuffie - January 24, 2008 07:20 PM (GMT)
Well, I haven't talked to my parents yet, but I'll try to be around just for Saturday at the least.
I'll start on this next week, when the fun is over. :P
Rakuen - January 24, 2008 10:44 PM (GMT)
Well, if you need a ride up and back for the weekend, I'm think we'll have room for one more in the Trailblazer, and we pass close to Dayton. I can call Ben and ask him if you want.
I'm pretty sure we're going Thursday night, though.
Yuffie - January 25, 2008 02:47 AM (GMT)
I'm afraid I can't do that, I have school Friday. I really really apperciate the offer though!
Rakuen - January 26, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
Well, if you change your mind (:lolguy:), just let me know.
Edit: Actually Jnkolm's saying something about him being lazy and maybe not leaving until early Friday afternoon. I doubt that's going to happen, but I dunno, I'll let you know later.
Jnkolm - January 27, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)
See what happens when you mention my name? I make an appearance. You should know full well that I AM that lazy, if not lazier. Don't tell my boss though, I figure in a couple months when I've been there a year THEN I can really start screwing around.
And hey, despite my knowledge of pokemon being limited to a couple of early seasons of the show and the original few games, I do like the idea of helping lay down the law. It's been a while since I've used my true shouting powers- it tends to tear my throat and make the local police wary. Ha! With Nathan, Mike, Ben, Ryan Via, Josh and Myself it'd be quite the secure area. It'd never happen, but still.
so yes indeed, Yuffie should be in charge, and show them Ohayocon people how to do a tournament.

Well of course it would never happen. We'd only actually need Ryan Via. He could break pretty much anyone in the room in half if he felt like it. Of course, the question becomes, how to get him to another anime convention?
Jnkolm - January 27, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
You've answered your own question, my friend. He'd force his way in, breaking people in half until they stopped the blockade. Unless you mean getting his muscled self into the place, in which case we'd have to come through the ceiling.
Yuffie - January 27, 2008 11:19 PM (GMT)
Well, I seem to a solid ride, I need to ask my parents when I'm sure I do.
Lol, that's a lot of guys! I'm glad for the faith in me...especially since we've never met.
Yuffie - February 2, 2008 10:24 PM (GMT)
I'm actually leaning toward a level 50 cap over a level 100, anyone have a issue with this?
Rakuen - February 2, 2008 10:57 PM (GMT)
Well someone's bound to have an issue with it, but you'd probably get similar numbers for a level 100 competition.
I think a 50 cap would be more interesting. And as long as it's set early (like now), no one can say they didn't have time to prepare or anything. It'd probably open it to more people to. I know I haven't played Pokemon in several iterations, but I don't think the leveling curve has changed enough to make it take less than three times as long to do 50 to 100 than to do 5 to 50.
Yuffie - February 2, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
Well, of course, especially anyone who's heavy on the dragon pokemon.
Heh, those are pretty much my reasons for wanting to do it, as well as it hopefully discouraging action replay.
If this is going to work, I probably need this set asap...but I have to ask Mike about a few details first.
Rakuen - February 2, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
Then I have independently confirmed your premise. Continue as planned. B)
Jnkolm - February 3, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
Yes, continue on and press ever forward!
I'll come sing the Pokemon opening song for your tournament. The first one that is...I don't even know if there's others
This is not Biggs - February 3, 2008 07:45 PM (GMT)
Is this for the DS (Diamond/Pearl) or for another Nintendo system's game? IDK...
Me and Lauren are thinking about buying two DS Lites. I told her all about the fun shit you can do on those things (I had no idea how uninformed she was about what all them DS systems can do-- she's the damn gamer).
She's pretty set on getting one-- I told her about the Pokemon tournament and now she wants to go to AP. Though I'm not sure if this is about the DS games?
She even suggested we get ourselves an intro for the tournament like Team Rocket.
o_O
Yeah... no.
Yuffie - February 3, 2008 08:54 PM (GMT)
Hehe, I own that theme on cd, we could have a singalong opening. xD There are others, although the first one, and Unbeatable(season 9) are probably the best.
This would definitely be about the ds games. Even if we were on the wiis,(and the more I think on it, the more I say there is no way in hell), they'd require the ds.
I want wiis for the final battles or something...I really do.
This is not Biggs - February 4, 2008 07:09 AM (GMT)
Oh, so you can connect the games to a wii, too? God damn...
Good, good. She just won an eBay auction selling a pink DS (lol) and some games (including Pokemon Diamond and Animal Crossing-- sweet) and accessories thrown in. Total steal.
Now I just have to get mine and Pokemon Pearl. And we will train hard and hopefully beat all of you all downnnnn when April comes around.
Miccy - February 4, 2008 01:07 PM (GMT)
>:0 I AM GOING TO BE AT DIS TOURNAMENT!
83 Yuffie, OMGS srsly, if I can think of one person to do this, its you, of course. >;0 but NOT without meee! <3
This is not Biggs - February 5, 2008 02:57 AM (GMT)
But I wanna be the very best like no one ever was!
The halls of the Crowne will run red with the blood of my Pokemon enemies, etc...
I'm sure I'll be out of the tournament after the first round, but whatevaaaa.

Yeah, so do I. I have the 2BA Master and Pokemon the 3rd Movie soundtracks. That gives you an idea of how big of a Pokefreak I was back in the day.
Of course, I say back in the day full knowing I just picked up a copy of Diamond today.
Yuffie - February 6, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
I had this back in the day. >.>
Twas an interesting cdI have no clue how my mom got it, just that we have it. Though my day never ended. :P
Like Diamond so far?
Rakuen - February 6, 2008 05:44 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but I wish the battles would go faster. They feel way slower than they used to be back in Gold/Silver.
Miccy - February 7, 2008 08:41 PM (GMT)
So should I level up some pokemon for the trmnt?
Like cap off like 6 pkmn at lvl 50?
Rakuen - February 7, 2008 08:46 PM (GMT)
Miccy - February 7, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
I'll go through the EFour to get dem to lvl 50! :0
And I'm JUST now getting my Swampert to lvl 100, so... No way I can get them all there before Punch.... Its possible, but not fun.
Yuffie - February 7, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
Yep, they're all to be level 50 or under.
I'll try to post a topic with the rules this weekend. ^_^
