Title: 2 way radios
Description: What works?

Okay, so at Ohayocon, me and my 2 friends often went seperate ways to see different panels, etc. While we all three had cell phones...they aren't the best thing ever at a con. then I spotted two guys using the 2-way radios (ie. walkie talkies).

I think that's a great idea next year...but most that I'm finding have 2 handsets. Now, I'm a technical moron, I'll admit, so I'm asking some questions.

1) What brand(s) have you found to be best?
2) If there are 2 handsets and 3-4 people...can you purchase 2 sets and rig them to pick up on the same...is it channel?
3) What features are okay, and what would you go out of your way to look for?
4) Do they hazard any interference with say...mics in the same panel room?

Um...can't think of any others, but feel free to throw in anything else that you think of.

Thanks!
~Blaze

Most handheld two-way radios operate on the same band of channels, so pretty much every brand and model can communicate together. There are only so many channels though, so expect to be on the same channel as a lot of other people too.

They shouldn't interfere with mics, though they need to be turned off when you are in panel/video rooms. Also, both the hotel and the convention use two-way radios as well, so you must NOT interfere with their channels. The program guide SHOULD list what channel con-staff use, so you can stay off of it.

Cool....thanks! I was wondering...but wasn't exactly sure whom to ask. Yeah, basic courtesy says to turn it off when in panels, etc...but I wasn't sure if passing by a room if it would freak it out or not. *shrugs*

And if the guide doesn't say what channel the con and hotel staff are using...can I ask a staffer (will they be clearly marked?) what channel so I can steer clear of it?

Thanks again!!

Yes and yes.
