Title: Cosplay Chess?
Lothlin - October 25, 2007 06:43 PM (GMT)
So. Any plans on us having this at AP? It is a popular event and all, it might be fun. Especially with the inevitable crazy that happens at AP.
I'll offer to throw my hand in on trying to run it, with the disclaimer that until Sugoi, I'll have only ever seen it on Youtube. Still, it can't be too difficult to set up... relatively.
Yuffie - October 25, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
I'd say heck yes, but I think this has been brought up before, and AP wants to do different things then other cons was the answer.
Still, I'd love to do it. ^^

Really? I yeah, I guess I do remember something vaguely along those lines.
Meh. Just a suggestion- Though I wonder, is there some other sort of large cosplayer-participation event similar to it that we could do, that hasn't really been done before? The fun of cosplay chess that I can see is that it's just fun with cosplayers, and not the chess so much, since it's probably scripted anyway.
I guess RBG is another sort of thing like that.. but again, there's an established group doing that.
Hrm. This is going to require some thought.

Cosplay checkers!!! That would be fun. When someone is going to jump someone, have them either 1) do leap frog over the jumped person or 2) um...smack their arse? XD lol
Lothlin - October 25, 2007 10:51 PM (GMT)
I think that would be too dangerous and not as a amusing- it's not really the game itsself but the little roleplay fights that happen when a piece happens that are fun.
Leapfrog... I forsee complications. And hell, what would you do when you king someone?
Centaura - October 25, 2007 11:25 PM (GMT)
When you king someone you get sent to the Hentai Olympics, stat.
Personally, I'm still a huge fan of the possible Legends of the Hidden Temple idea from earlier.
Not many board games generally translate well to real life, save chess.
Lothlin - October 26, 2007 12:26 AM (GMT)
How would we pull off a LofHT type thing though? In theory it's fun, but in practice, the logistics of getting a stage set up to be sufficiently challenging is just daunting.
Plus, it's really not en mass.... *ponders*
There's gotta be some kind of game besides chess. Though really, lots of strategy games would probably end up being the same basic thing.
grrr. Must brainstorm!
Yuffie - October 26, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Can't monopoly translate well? We can, beat up people when we want their property or something. xD And I call dibs on the thimble!
I kid, I kid.
Seriously though, Risk would be awesome. If we could do it.

Risk would be awesome if we could do it.
Huh. Maybe like, a toned down version of risk? If it was scripted, we wouldn't have to deal with the cat-and-mouse problems that make Risk take FOREVER.

I know LotHT would be generally improbable and terribly difficult...but a girl can dream.
Almost all of the board games I ever played with my family would be violent if we were to do them IRL. Sorry!. Chutes and Ladders. Etc.
We could do something like Scrabble, but you HAVE to use anime-related words. It would be a lot like anime Pictionary, though, and not as interactive as some other games.
Lothlin - October 26, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
How would you turn scrabble into something large-scale though?
The History Follower - October 26, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
Cosplay Heroes
A live action version of the table top game Plushie Heroes where you give plushies and toys stats and then battle with them. I do intend to have the 2nd Annual Anime Punch Plsuhie Hero Survior Series Team Battle Tournament so why not do this as well.
Anyone interested in hearing more?
Lothlin - October 26, 2007 04:18 AM (GMT)
I think the one problem with that is the logistics of it dude. Plushy hero took so long to set up that, unfortunately, we didn't have time to finish. I think it's just a little too structured, especially since a lot of people aren't used to adapting to new systems and making up character sheets very quickly. I know I am, but I definately noticed a lot of people just didn't get it and held everyone else up.
It's cool in theory, but in practice...

I think any discussion of complicated events should be taken to the staff section, as they are likely to become heated, or at least detailed.
In general, I would like to remind both staffers and members that Anime Punch tries to exist in the absense of rules and regulations, not in an excess of them.
It should also be noted that I'm a big proponent of "figuring it out as we go along"

That's what makes Anime Punch special.
Lothlin - October 26, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
You think it's at a point where it's complicated? I don't think this conversation has gotten past the point of 'hrm, this COULD be a good idea.'
I was going to take it to staff for details, most definately!
Yuffie - October 26, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
Eh? What's wrong with this topic for discussing it. After all, it's Planning. :/
Unless there's a hidden forum not open to not high-up on staff...
I'm sure we could do something that cuts back the time. Yeah, actually my history teacher I believe is having us do a risk like activity, maybe I can get an idea for that. I just love the idea of organizing cosplayers into a little risk army. ^^
KaiserMikeB - October 26, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
I'm more referring to the plushi hero live actions stuff, which seems like it would be extremely difficult to enact in a timely manner.
There will be some discussion tonight as to how we are handeling our battle events this year though.
vamninrate - November 6, 2007 05:09 AM (GMT)
BATTLE SHIP!!! WOOT thatd be a fun one, you could have the 'size' of the ship baised on the popularity of the character, or how well they were in character, or how well there costume is put together ect.
