Title: Downtown Dayton
Description: is pretty awesome
Yuffie - August 16, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
Today I went to downtown Dayton with my family to have lunch with my dad, as today was special, and got to see the art display there. Downtown Dayton is full of very detailed bronze statues of famous photographs that were absolutely gorgeous, and I got to see some of them. I had so much fun just goofing off and seeing all the little details. I even mistook the window washer to be a real guy...
Dayton is far out for a lot of you, so I thought I'd share some pictures if anyone wanted to see. I really liked them.
Enjoy?My favorite was Monroe.

I go to downtown Dayton every day for work. Last year I went 3 days a week for school. I wasn't aware of these statues though. Meh I really don't walk around much though.
So where did you eat lunch at?

Those pictures are interesting, I really liked the monroe statue as well as the girl waiting to cross. The window washer does look realistic ,I can see why you almost mistook the window washer to be a real person- I almost did and thats only a photo

Yeah, I think you would have needed to walk around.
My dad took us to this cafeteria called Swishers. It was pretty damn good food.
Thanks Faery-phoenix. ^_^

Holy crap. Those are amazing. I want to go to Dayton now XD. I think my favorite is the one that you posted here with the father and child. The Window Washer was also like OMFG REAL!! And the Monroe was sexy. lawl. Awesome pictures.

Despite popular belief, Dayton is awesome. xD
I mistook the doll on the father and child to be a real toy that had been left there.
Thanks! ^^

Dayton does have its good points. It doesn't have as much as Columbus or Cinci or the various large northern Ohio cities but it is nice in places. The Oregon District is well loved for its bars and restaurants. We even have a few comedy clubs in the area that are a lot of fun. Dayton has an interesting history and is mainly known for being home to Paul Lawrence Dunbar, The Wright Brothers, and National Cash Register. We also have many good educational opportunities in the area with Sinclair Community College located Downtown(go Tartans) and Wright State University located in the Dayton suburb of Fairborn my hometown. We also have our Dayton Dragons baseball team and Dayton Bombers hockey team.

Sinclair is awesome.
Don't forget UD Smokie! I'm thinking of going there.
KaiserMikeB - August 17, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
I was thinking the same thing, it's like Dayton DOES have UD (where my uncle went) and Wright State (where my favorite teacher went) as well as Antioch (if you count that as Dayton, or as respectable... also it is getting shut down again).
Sinclair probably is pretty good for a community college, but it's not something you advertise with. Mind you, Ohio has the most colleges pound for pound in the WORLD, so you gotta figure even the community colleges are decent here.
Yuffie - August 17, 2007 02:32 AM (GMT)
I guess it isn't something you would advertise, when you think about, but it is advertised really heavily(although my statement is in reponse to Smokie), but on it's own Sinclair is an absolutely amazing. They even outsource to schools with career track programs. I considered Sinclair, until I relized if I want to do what I want to do I'm going to have to suck it up and go to college.
Go Dragons! Go Bombers! x3
Heh, plenty of Dayton pride. Now if only I had that much school spirit.
I really do like our Dragons team though.

Yeah I tend to forget UD half the time. How could I when Erma Bombeck went there? Sinclair is a good school. Considering I can take some gen eds there for less money than they would cost at Wright State and then transfer them its the smart thing to do. Same credit hours for less money. Also Yuffie wouldn't Clark State be closer for you.
As for the Dragons I'm not a big sports fan but even I enjoy the occasional trip down to Fifth Third Field to see them play.
Dayton for all its flaws does live up to its nickname the Gem City. I mean we even have a decent Art Institute and a Peace Museum.
KaiserMikeB - August 17, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
Um, not to piss on Sinclairs parade, but that's what ALL community colleges do. If they are in the same city (and usually same STATE) as a university, they have a coordinated transfer credit program established. Columbus State is like that, as it Tri-C, Cincy state, etc.
Community colleges are just that though, COMMUNITY colleges. They don't have a presense outside of the city. CS advertises like crazy in columbus, but most people from Dayton or Cincinnati have never heard of it. Such is it with Sinclair.

Wright State is the closest to my location. It's not really what's closer to me, I actually would like to get a little away from home, (another possibility is Ohio State), but my friend's father is a professor at UD and has told me he's willing to get me hooked up with the librarians there.
Connections. :D
We'll go down there for a family time thing, my dad's work has a suite at fifth third field.
Much agreed with you Smokie, there are flaws but it does in the end. We also have the Victoria theater/Scheuster center, and the Victoria is just a gorgeous building. Old though.
KaiserMikeB - August 17, 2007 05:58 PM (GMT)
So your friends dad is selling you for sex to a bunch of librarians?! :P
Yuffie - August 17, 2007 08:22 PM (GMT)
Wait, what? When did sex come into this? Just because librarians are typically hot, but still!
KaiserMikeB - August 17, 2007 08:56 PM (GMT)
You said some dude was going to hook you up with the librarians, so I just assumed...
Yuffie - August 17, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
Damn double meanings... ^^
Tsugaru - August 25, 2007 12:42 AM (GMT)

Well, anytime you're around, I'd very much like to hang out with you, espically since I don't think I saw you around this con. :o
Yuffie - August 25, 2007 02:07 PM (GMT)
Maybe at the dayton mall sometime?
Tsugaru - August 26, 2007 02:08 AM (GMT)
Sure. ^^;
We could go hang out at the arcade or something. I just dunno when now, because I'm back in school. ^^;
