This is a collection of 2 very touching stories about how the people of hiroshima delt with the after effects of the bombs. One is particularly poignant set about 10 years after the bomb occurs it examines the effects of radiation poisioning on people well after the bomb was dropped. This is a sad but extremely powerful story that packed one hell of a punch. The storytelling is top notch and the artwork has a subtle softness added to the stock manga style that makes it feel more personal.

The second story wasn't as great, but still featured well developed characters and more good artwork/storytelling. Its a bit more of a contemorary look at how the events of that time still effect common people's lives to this day.

Whats amazing about these stories is that in Japan the atomic bomb drop is often overlooked by historians, many people outside of hiroshima don't even know it happened!

Check this out if you want a manga that's a bit more on the veins of a ghibli movie and less like most of what populates the bookshelf, at about 9.99 for only 100 pages its a bit more expensive than what people these days pay for manga in the states, but this is offset by the higher quality paper that its printed on as well as a better quality editing job than one would find at tokyopop.

All and all highly recommended, particulary to those who are getting tired of shoujo and shounen and want something a bit different.

That one sounds interesting. I may end up picking it up sometime in the future. And it's true, a lot of people don't know what happened to the people in Hiroshima or Nagasaki both when the bombs were dropped and after. Needless to say, it's the reason we haven't used nuclear weapons since.

Now, as for manga I'm currently reading, I just finished volume three of Rurouni Kenshin. I like it so far (and I can see Kenshin as a sort of future version of the character from my story), and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on volume four.
