Title: Video Room 08 Request
Description: What do you want to see at AP 08?

smokie - July 9, 2007 06:11 AM (GMT)
I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for this.

Mike if you feel it would be better off in the video room section then by all means move it.

That said I have something I want to request. A certain OVA has been eluding me. Hence in my laziness I'm asking someone else to find it for me.

Anime Tenchou animated by Gainax and directed by Anno. Parodies of it pop up frequently in Lucky Star. Its quite obscure making it perfect for AP.

Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-Moved!

Wow, that's pretty cool, especially since it's wirtten by Imaishi! <3

Do you know where we might find a raw of it, for the subbing?

smokie - July 9, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
No I can't find it. No RAWs and as far as I can tell no fansub group ever touched it. Its a damn shame too because their appearances in Lucky Star are pretty funny and I want to see them in their actual OVA.

KaiserMikeB - July 10, 2007 07:41 AM (GMT)
I'll see what we can do. In case you were unaware, the OSU anime club is called "animate" and so that is just one more reason for us to find and sub this!

Hello everyone, I am Neil and this year I will be video head for anime punch. I will be actively looking at these forums to find suggestions on making sure that the schedule we put together will be a diverse fun and unique one.

Please feel free to shout out what you'd like to be shown at the con the earlier you provide us with ideas the better we (including you - if you're active!) will be able to put together a kick ass schedule!

Remember guys, try to think different, I know all of you love Gantz, Love Hina, Gravitation, Chobits, and Hellsing. I know all fangirls love anything involving gay people, what I am interested in is something that is fresh and new that might not have gotten quite in the limelight as much as those old staples but would be totally worth showing to a diverse crowd of fans.

Now for those of you who know me well, I'm not just talking about artsy fartsy shows, or wild insane acid trip shows, but the kinds of anime that really deserve to get more attention that may have been a tad overlooked whether its something moe, mecha, romance, kids stuff, classics, bad stuff, etc...

I'm even looking for good documentaries involving anything from the creators of anime and manga to the subculture surrounding them. Keep your eyes peeled.

I've already told Mike this, but I was told to post it here to be remembered, but I'd like to see Pita Ten. I think living next door to an angel in training is pretty obscure, especially with the personalities.

I know there's already a fan sub by spectre anime cuz it's on youtube haha. but yeah, it's random, silly, and kinda cute for the fangirls.

sesshouga - December 24, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
I second Pita Ten. The manga was AMAZING and I'd love to see the anime.

KittyKomix - January 9, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
Not so popular OVA's? Hmm... How about Bokusatsu Tenchi Dokuro-chan? It just had a second season back in the fall..

Okay, has any one seen Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei? It's full of random silliness and running gags.

I have. I think it's hilarious, partly because it's so utterly random and fast-paced.

Even the credits are worth watching, which I find respectable.

smokie - January 10, 2008 09:17 PM (GMT)
Yeah Zetsubo Sensei would be a great thing to show.

Lothlin - January 10, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
From talking with folks at Ohayo, I believe SZS is a huge possibility. Especially because the chance that it will ever be officially dubbed is very slim.

After Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, The next one I've been pimping is Bamboo Blade. Having practice Kendo with my brother and settled "disputes" with a room mate with clashing shinai, it's one I'd like more people to know about.
(hmmm... save up money to buy a set of Bogu,,, or buy a house... Damn that's a tough choice.)

smokie - January 11, 2008 07:34 PM (GMT)
Bamboo Blade is good but I don't know if its so spectacular it would need to be shown at the con. Although the episode where he goes to the supermarket gave me a good laugh.

Codi - January 12, 2008 12:51 AM (GMT)
I'm thinking Metalocalypse.

masterlock - January 12, 2008 01:06 AM (GMT)
Yeah,, Bamboo Blade is not spectacular, and it's not widely known. It's got a good plot (so far). And I'll let someone else advocate for the more mainstream stuff.

After telling a co-work about Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Beck, and Bamboo Blade; He said I should see Welcome to the NHK. I never heard of it, is it worth it? (for the con or personal viewing?)

neilworms - January 12, 2008 02:31 AM (GMT)
I consider Welcome to NHK essential viewing, mainly because of how it kind of puts Japanese anime otaku culture in to context of how its percieved in the real world, in an easy to digest format.

Though the sense of anime culture here is far more withdrawn, if you want to see something in a similar vein that shows more social anime fans, check out genshiken.

FLIPINOMAD - February 17, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
Live Action version of Great Teacher Onizuka (Movie or TV Series).

RedDelilah - February 18, 2008 02:18 AM (GMT)
Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing the Death Note movies subbed. Also Mushi-shi looked good. I'm so picky though I don't really know what would be considered "spectacular" or not. Oh also Hell Girl if anyone has it.

Mushishi is good-- it's like a folky X-files.
...But you always know what's behind the freak occurances.

I only got to see one episode of it but a love the art style. It's like woodsy/foresty but very dark.

Jnkolm - February 21, 2008 04:46 AM (GMT)
hmm, I forgot all about Mushishi since it was in Newtype, I'd probably watch a tiny bit of that. And This Ugly Yet Beautiful World. Mostly because I'm selfish and would never bother to watch it on my own, but my research has to continue at some point. from what I recall it's decently different.

I mean no disrespect, but Metalocalypse might be a bit too "in the limelight" as Neil may or may not say, since it's an Adult Swim show.
