Title: Russia: The Land of Epic Win!
Description: Viva Russia Chan!

| QUOTE (The St. Petersburg Times) |
"Yes, we will use the latest technical devices. Already now they are being stationed, for example, in the southern parts of our country," Putin said when reporters asked him after the conference whether Russia planned to use "gigantic, humanoid war robots" to defend itself. Asked to elaborate about what he meant, Putin said: "These are unmanned aerial vehicles. And maybe the time will come for gigantic robots. However, so far we have put our main hope on people — namely border guards," Putin said, Kommersant reported.
Asked about the possible awakening of the giant mythical octopus Cthulhu, the fourth-most popular question among the more than 150,000 sent to Putin, he said that he believed something more serious was behind the question. Cthulhu was invented by novelist H.P. Lovecraft and was said to be sleeping beneath the Pacific Ocean. Putin said he viewed mysterious forces with suspicion and advised those who took them seriously to read the Bible, Koran or other religious books.
The St. Petersburg Times: Putin Weighs In on Robots, Sex Following Internet Conference |

Oh lawl, I had to check to make sure that this was a real story and it seems that it is and that it's the work of
Russia-chan.
We need to question President Bush on why he is allowing a 'Mecha gap' to develop and what are his plans to ensure that the US is eaten first when Cthulhu awakes. With his track record the US will be left in a cosmic terror filled delirium for decades after Cthulhu awakes.

Russian Web site www.yandex.ru and the BBC's www.bbc.co.uk are jointly running a webcast of an online conference with President Vladimir Putin. The Web sites' organizers have invited people to question him over the Internet on Russia's democracy, its newly assertive role in the world and his personal qualities. ... For reasons Reuters calls "not clear," 8,600 Russians want to know if Putin plans to employ "giant, humanoid war robots" and 7,300 people want him to be questioned about the Cthulhu, a cosmic cephalopod invented by author H.P. Lovecraft that sleeps beneath the Pacific Ocean.

No, I meant with like Russia coming out with angsty, hesistant-at-first teenaged pilots commanding the entire Russian army with prototype mobile suits that wear little ushanka hats. Awwwww.
This is starting to sound like the plot for Gigantic Formula.
If only. :(

As far as world leaders go I think Putin is pretty cool. I mean hes former KGB, knows Judo, and at one point said "We'll follow terrorists everywhere. We will corner the bandits in the toilet and beat the hell out of them." Too bad his time is almost up. A Russia under Putin would be a mighty ally for America in the coming fight against the Chinese.
KaiserMikeB - June 5, 2007 04:23 AM (GMT)
I'll let Jason field this one...
This is not Biggs - June 5, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Putin's kind of cool. I watched an interview with him on 60 minutes a little over two years ago. Because, I am a nerd who watched 60 minutes on Sunday when I can catch it. Went like this:
Mike Wallace (one of the many old dude correspondents): They're pressing us to end the interview, just a few more questions...
Putin: Nobody can be pressing us. I am the president of Russia, no one presses me. (laughs and then gives a wink)
So cute.
smokie - June 5, 2007 07:14 PM (GMT)
Not just as president but Putin could kick their ass in hand to hand with his Judo skills or bust a cap KGB style.
Lilith's Dark Shadow - June 6, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
i for one am worried what will happen if the trans-sibera railway gets mecha
smokie - June 6, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
Damn America does need mechs. At least a super soldier program. Fuck I'd settle for getting some of those Honda robots and programing them to kick ass even if they just get given a rifle and are modified to be controlled by a Steel Batalion controller. Or we can have child soldiers pumped full of steroids its all good really.

1. Putin does Rock, hands down.
2. Why would China attack us? They have close ties with Wal*mart and US Corporations. They make tons and tons of money off us that would be like taking a baseball bat to your best customer. They make too much damn money off us to attack. Now if our economy died and didn't destroy the Chinese economy as well then Military action would be possible though still unlikely.
China has enough US currency and Bonds right now that they could easily sink our economy... Problem is that if they did that it would destroy their own economy since the US is a major market for Chinese made products.
Bottom line the Chinese won't attack us because it's much more profitable to do business with us and our market.
smokie - June 6, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
No China won't attack us. Not for 20 or 30 years anyways. Thats why we should hit them first. Now would be the time while we still have the edge.
Damnation! We didn't put up with the Soviets for all those years just so we could follow them into oblivion 20 years later. I mean America got to enjoy its victory for about 10 years then things went to shit for us. We can not let the Commies beat us now. We need to hit them first and remain a hyper power.

|
And we would win in China? We can't even deal with a bunch of guys who ride around in technicals armed with little more than pipe bombs, some Kalashnikovs, and RPGs.
Part of it is that we're too technically advanced and centered on fighting an enemy in conventional big WWII style battles - too bad wars are primarily guerilla conflicts now and people find cheap low-tech solutions to beating all that expensive and shiny technology. Heck things have gotten so bad due to high tech fetishism that
the Royal Navy can't even cope with Pirates any more (
Modern Pirates are still awesome btw).
The CCP came to power through a long guerilla war (interupted temporarily by Japan attacking China) and Mao's texts on guerilla war are considered classics to be studied by guerillas and those fighting them. China knows their shit in that area.
We on the other hand are like a blind oger fruitlessly slashing a sword in various directions while a guy on the hill is lining up a head shot with a sniper rifle.
We are going to lose in Iraq and the War on Terror because of our tactics, it is the goal of Al Qaeda to destroy the US like the Soviet Union - a prolonged armed conflict that will drain the economy of the empire and it works - with less than a hundred dollars of equipment they can take out millions of dollars worth of technology and people.
If the US tries to leave Iraq there will be an immediate attack on the American Homeland to redraw the US into a conflict. In the end the US will be forced out of the region entirely due to economical problems and adopt an isolationist foreign policy due to public pressure (or in the best case scenario collapse entirely) - Thus leaving Al Qaeda free to pursue it's primary objectives:
1. End of the Saudi Monarchy and other Middle Eastern Dictatorships that were supported by Western Powers.
2. Restoration of the Caliphate.
3. Possible retaking of former Muslim land.
smokie - June 7, 2007 03:11 PM (GMT)
Yeah we could beat them. It would not be easy but it could be done. Now in any case. In 15 years I'm not so sure. We would not be trying to occupy China just destroy their economy and manufacturing capabilities and fuck up their conventional military forces. Walmart is destroyed. Automobile manufacturing comes back to the States, everybodys happy.
Also if not them we need to deal with this whole Cuba thing. I mean the damn thing is just an embarassment. Lets just go down there invade, and kill Castro. Pay the troops who go in captured cigars or something. It'll take a week.

Oh really! Will the 2nd Cuban invasion go as well as the Bay of Pigs one? Also those cars are made in Japan and Korea - but that whole area is China right? :P
More proof the US is too soft to do anything:
| QUOTE (Kuma Bot) |

The US military is developing a robot with a teddy bear-style head to help carry injured soldiers away from the battlefield.
The Battlefield Extraction Assist Robot (BEAR) can scoop up even the heaviest of casualties and transport them over long distances over rough terrain.
New Scientist magazine reports that the "friendly appearance" of the robot is designed to put the wounded at ease.
It is expected to be ready for testing within five years.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6729745.stm |
Teddy Bear robots... Let that sink into your mind for a second now.
Teddy Bear robots.
LittleNicoleLost - June 8, 2007 01:10 AM (GMT)
At this point there is no military gain from attacking Cuba.
Besides, Fidel is no longer the President and Raul is likely to loose his footing. He is not charismatic enough to control a country and his health is widely disputed.
Also, since when did mechanical teddy bears put anyone at ease. That would creep the hell out of me.
Yuffie - June 8, 2007 01:14 AM (GMT)
I thought Castro stepped down? Eh, I've been out of the political loop for a bit.
Take out Castro, and we have another fucking Iraq.
I don't really see how the teddy bear robot is really us being too soft...it seems like a good idea to me.
Simply, we won't invade anyone as of right now. Because of Iraq. Our miltary supplies are depleted, our army is in horrible shape, morale is low. It's not like we have a monster robot force we can send off to China or Cuba, what we have are actual people who wear out. We have a sad army.
An army that they're so desperate, that they're sending people to Iraq without full miltary training. That leave from Iraq is becoming rarer and shorter. And Bush just sits in his white house and ignores the whole damn thing because he thinks he's playing some kiddy video game with little tin robots who never get tired, and thinks everything is going to be okay. If anyone wanted to invade us, now would be a fantasic time.
...I live near a miltary base, in a town who has always been dependent on it, and is starting to suffer economically without our soliders. Everyone has grown tired of the war, and has given up hoping for an end, or even for our soliders to come back alive. And I hate it how people can be so blind to the emotional strain of war...because it's so vivid here. Although it's hard to know unless you live it.
We can't just go oblierate other countries. We just...can't.

| I thought Castro stepped down? |
Fidel Castro is currently in good health and has been said of as "returning to his Presidency should ill befall his brother"
Take into account that Raul..is like 72?
Anyway, I just find teddy bear robots creepy. In effect they could be useful and for those of you who worship mech animes I don't see why you'd be grumpy. It's one more step closer to big robot armies.

OK Bay of Pigs was Kennedy's fuck up. We would of had that shit go down right under Nixon. And yeah we would gain from an invasion. It would get rid of an embarassment that has been there for over 40 years. A communist nation 90 miles from America's coast.
Yeah Japan, South Korea, Mexico, and I think India all manufacture automobiles or parts for them. Except Japan makes Japanese cars. I'm pretty sure GM doesn't have a Cadillac plant in Japan but they built one recently in China. The idea of a Chinese Caddy makes me sick to my stomach.
I agree about the bear robots. They are kind of gay. Maybe they could give them some fangs and a built in RPG. That would be an improvement.

As anti-communist as America is, I have found it's not always a terrible way to govern a country and worked properly can lead to a nation of prosperity.
Though I prefer Marxism as a base for alternative governments. Marx had some very solid ideas about social structure and important issues.
Had Castro not entirely ruined Cuba as a country in most aspects, I'd be all for him continuing. In this case though, it would work out quite similar to what we have in Iraq. Guerrilla warfare we can't compete with as well as a people who don't -want- to governed our way. They don't know how to be.
We don't have the economy to support such things.

Mike. I don't really care if you tell me to fuck off but I really don't appreciate being called a racist.
My anti-communist remarks have nothing to do with race seeing as how communism is a political idea.
If you want to accuse me of being ultra right wing to the point of facism thats OK.
As for me being a dumbass American I'm probably a sight better off than our leaders in D.C. For example I went to the post office to register for Selective Service and on the chart saying who all had to register and who was exempt it had Undocumented Alien(illegal) on the register side of the little chart(please note I did not add the illegal after Undocumented Alien of my own volition it was actually on the chart). I'm thinking "WTF why would an illegal immigrant register for the selective service act? Why would we ever draft illegal immigrants? Shouldn't we uh be deporting these people?"
P.S. Damn Mike even I think that was excessive use of profanity and I curse like a sailor. :D

I'll sum up this whole discussion:
I LOVE GIGANTIC COCKS
Yuffie - June 9, 2007 01:28 PM (GMT)
I want to hug the alien! ^_^
While I don't read minds, and especially not Mike's, I think what he was getting at is just your attitude toward the military, and how you don't really know anything about the army, or the conquenses, and that you're being a real jerk toward the military, and just shut up already.
...and you kinda missed it.
Seriously though, if any of my military friends got on here, they would have had your ass quite a bit ago. Especially if it was my best friend. What you're saying is not cool, it's not funny, it just shows that your completely unapperciative or ignorant for our army, and the cost of war. Whether you are or not, is a different matter, but that's how your acting.
And yeah, that was a little excessive Mike, it kinda ruined whatever point you tried to make.
smokie - June 9, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
Hey I appreciate the struggles our armed forces go through. I think we should pull our boys out of Iraq as soon as possible. I imagine its Hell over there. In hindsight instead of setting up a democracy we should have went with the Cold War method of setting up a pro US dictator. They could have ruled with an iron fist while we got the Hell out of Dodge. Is it very humanitarian? NO! Would it make us any friends? NO! Does it usually work very well? Of course not. Still it probably would have been less of a pain in the ass.
Also my desire to attack other nations for gain is damn near an American tradition. We got into the War of 1812 mainly because we wanted to take Canada. It didn't end well but I use it as an example of why we have fought in the past. The Mexican-American War land, gold, silver we got it all with that one. The Spanish-American War where we gained the Phillipines and took over Cuba temporarily. With the exception of 1812 America benefited greatly from these wars. Yes I know we suffered greatly from gureilla war in the Phillipines but it turned out allright in the end. I'm just saying we get back to this in a limited manner for the sole purpose of improving the nations economy.
It doesn't even have to be a war proper. I mean a new Cold War could really boost America's economy. Anybody remember the movie Canadian Bacon? We could pull something like that. Yeah I know I'm suggesting the very thing the movie was against.
