Title: Anime for the Disturbed

KaiserMikeB - May 31, 2007 04:30 AM (GMT)
I was thinking, how about a panel that highlights anime for the criminally disturbed.

Higurashi, Narutaru, Alien 9, stuff of that sort.

Who is sick enough to join me in liking this stuff?

Yuffie - May 31, 2007 12:47 PM (GMT)
Throw in Gunslinger Girl and I'm yours on this.

I want Kumi(sp?) and Rico for a personal harem now.

LittleNicoleLost - May 31, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
I'm right in there.

Codi - May 31, 2007 09:17 PM (GMT)
I'm game. Add Betterman to the list. (maybe.)

Bear - June 1, 2007 05:24 AM (GMT)
This thread needs more Ide

KaiserMikeB - June 1, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Disagreed, Ide isn't disturbed. Faceless violence against children isn't the same as children hurting children!

Miccy - June 1, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
=3 Michie=in.

Torouh - July 10, 2007 09:28 PM (GMT)
I agree with Yuffie, throw in the crazy per-teen assasins killing full grown men and i'm there!! ^_^

dizzy-ingrid - July 24, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
come on, no ones has aten spiders yet.
boogiepop phantom.

i don't have a favorite anime, but when people ask that don't grasp this consept, i say boogiepop because no one else will. it's like a good version of the animatrixs.

KaiserMikeB - July 25, 2007 01:27 AM (GMT)
Spellcheck much?

Though Boogiepop Phantom does kickass

sesshouga - July 26, 2007 01:06 AM (GMT)
I'm in. Add Koi Kaze. That's by far the most disturbing anime I've seen that's not hentai.

dizzy-ingrid - July 26, 2007 02:08 AM (GMT)
i'd give the honor to hello kitty. that show is very adult.

but i haven't seen koi kaze, sound kick ass

sesshouga - July 26, 2007 04:27 AM (GMT)
It's about pedo incest.

dizzy-kun - July 26, 2007 08:20 AM (GMT)
delish, incest is my fav.

Lothlin - July 27, 2007 12:48 AM (GMT)
...Hey now, I quite enjoyed the Animatrix.

smokie - July 27, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
The Skullman. BONES has given us a deep and slightly disturbing anime. I say we pick it up and run with it.

Lothlin - July 27, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
Hrm. How disturbing are we talking? A couple of my friends were showing me Desert Punk the other day (and I'm going to buy the set as soon as I get paid tommorow,) and well, it wasn't disturbing in an eww gross sort of way, but more in a 'how many references to boobs can that dude get in a single sentence?'

Perverted disturbing. *shrugs* Throwing it out there.

burnsidegt - December 11, 2007 02:55 PM (GMT)
How about Elfen Lied? The story isn't super disturbing as far as plot goes, but you know the scenes.. it's also fun to play the "Half-shot for everyone Nyu kills in the first episode!" game >D. (also fun to play the said game with full shots with Battle Royale. I usually win that one.)

Hurray for ultra-violence drinking games XD. And disturbing anime; of course.

smokie - December 11, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
Ghost Hound from Production I.G. has some trippy mindfuck moments. In addition its REALLY fucking good. I'm in no position to demand anything but if I were I would demand that Ghost Hound be shown at AP.

Centaura - December 11, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
What kind of "disturbed" are we talking here? I have a few anime in mind, though I'm not sure they're the same idea. Boogiepop and Elfen Lied (already mentioned), Perfect Blue, GantZ, Gilgamesh, etc. Some are mindfucks, others are just violent as hell.

I would so be at this panel no matter what you covered. I need moar disturbing anime to watch, in any case.

KaiserMikeB - December 11, 2007 09:11 PM (GMT)
Smokie, post Ghosthound in the video section so Neil sees it. Neil is a major Prod-IG fanboy, so I'm sure it won't take much convincing!

neilworms - December 12, 2007 02:28 AM (GMT)
Not only is it Production I.G., but its also Ryutaro Nakamura (director of Lain) reunited with Chiaki J Konaka (writer of Lain)!

Ghosthound is already on the list barring any weird nuclear disasters... or astral projections of the video staff head. ;)

OT: Konaka should be our first Japanese guest...

Lothlin - December 12, 2007 02:57 AM (GMT)
..Writer of Lain? As our Japanese guest?

May I insert and extremely large and exuberant 'HELL YES!' right here? Like, that would freaking make my day.

I'd be forced to watch a Lain marathon Thursday before the con- my brain might just explode from it.

neilworms - December 12, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
That was not an official announcement btw, but me speculating as to who our first Japanese guest should be...

I hope that he is our first Japanese guest :P... I don't know what mike has in store.

Lothlin - December 12, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
I know it wasn't official XD

But just saying, I'd love for it to happen!

vamninrate - December 12, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)
I would skip work to go to a panel like that lolz.

Dildodo - December 13, 2007 04:42 AM (GMT)
Did someone say "disturbed"?

Kuroshi - January 1, 2008 03:35 AM (GMT)
Is Alien 9 that one with the giant alien whale on the school's roof that absorbs schoolgirls who are trained to be warriors and have little familiar robot/demons that follow them around?

KaiserMikeB - January 2, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
Yes.

MissAriaaaa - January 5, 2008 03:08 AM (GMT)
Put in Ouran High School Host Club subbed in English, and I'm totally there. Not that's it's too inappropriate in it's self, but it had some suggestive themes. I'd say 13+, plus Kaoru and Hikaru, are basically faking being gay, so you know.

Centaura - January 5, 2008 05:15 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't categorize Ouran as an anime for the disturbed...

Codi - January 6, 2008 11:38 PM (GMT)
Unless the themes of females incapable of thinking for themselves and being only servants to men at their every beck and whim and being portrayed as mindless whores who are so superficial they'll shell out money just for the slightest bit of attention from a seemingly "attractive" male, and repressing any sort of woman's movement as disturbing, then yeah I say this should be there.

KaiserMikeB - January 6, 2008 11:39 PM (GMT)
If you think Ouran is disturbed then you are in for a rude awakening!

burnsidegt - January 7, 2008 02:29 AM (GMT)
I'm all about some epic fanime crossovers.. such as say, a Battle Royale/Ouran crossover. It could make sense... "You all fail at life, being showered with money and looking down on the poor. You wouldn't know how to wipe your own asses if you hadn't paid a tutor $100,000 an hour over the course of a week to teach you. You think life is all about luxury and beauty; you are forgetting there is a balance to everything... Haruhi. I would apologize that you have been grouped together with these people, but you chose to subject yourself to their ridicule.. You're just as guilty here, but perhaps you have the best chance of survival! I advise you use the memories of their treatment of you and your status in life to fuel your will to survive. I'm cheering for you... I'm supposed to be neutral in all of this, but here, -I- make the rules.. It's dangerous to go alone; take this with you.." And then the main guy tosses Haruhi a bag full of multiple weapons, body armor, and psychotropic drugs. And then on with the battle royale..

I think that kind of Ouran crossover would be epic... and possibly disturbed.

QUOTE (KaiserMikeB @ Jan 6 2008, 06:39 PM)
If you think Ouran is disturbed then you are in for a rude awakening!

Quite right.

Stuff like Kakugo no Susume is anime for the disturbed. Ouran is just anime for the deluded.

KittyKomix - January 9, 2008 09:03 PM (GMT)
A very disturbing anime would have to be Dokuro-chan.

KaiserMikeB - January 9, 2008 10:08 PM (GMT)
Nah, Dokuro chan is just cute and spazy, not really disturbing on any real level.

Jnkolm - January 13, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
I don't know if anybody has seen Dead Leaves, nor can I really recall what it was like. All I remember is that I'm glad I don't really recall it, as I just stated. Also I was unhappy at life shortly after watching it. And I wanted a cookie. I got one.

Oh, and we packaged a couple cookies with Dead Leaves. when we gave it to our friend Silent Voice, with a note saying he would need them. But it was more weird then disturbing if I remember right, which I don't.

This is not Biggs - January 13, 2008 08:40 PM (GMT)
Hm, yeah... I saw the last nine minutes of it. I was flipping through my mom's satellite when I was at home and was like "Oh man, I've been wanting to see this for years!" So I watched it with a few friends and we just reacted with "Oh." once the credits came up and then watched Kindergarten Cop.

That's all I have to contribute to this thread.

KaiserMikeB - January 13, 2008 08:52 PM (GMT)
Dead leaves is pretty awesome. I think it definitely qualifies!
