Title: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Description: Michelle, to hell with you!
LittleNicoleLost - May 29, 2007 03:52 AM (GMT)
That's right, my current infatuation in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni or When Cicadas Cry.
A story set in 1983 Japan, in the fictional city of Hinamizawa, this story follows the lives of seemingly normally friends in what turns out to be a very abnormal town. Following a game this anime can at times be confusing when it follows arcs that could originally have been avoided due to the games "Choose Your Own Adventure" sort of style. Flash backs give heed to these possibilities, which sometimes point out such things.
Anyway, the final part of the series will be released in July of '07 and I'm looking forward to it.
Does anyone else watch this anime?
KaiserMikeB - May 29, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
I am very much into this one. I actually started re-watching it. It just got released in America under the title "When they Cry"
Codi - May 29, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I friggin love Higurashi, it's really well done, and creepy to boot. I like the fact that the girls are insane :D Killer lolis!
I think if anything, the open-endedness of each chapter leaves a lot of questions for the ending, but makes way for more eps, hell yeah!
(in reality that sucks and is confusing as hell, but I like how they set up the whole anime, personally.)
Ever since I heard about the new eps, I've been waiting on pins and needles (heh pun) for them.
I'll probably re-watch it before the new eps come out.

I'm thinking about picking up the American release, but you never know. I'm just really excited for the final two answer chapters. ALL SHALL BE KNOWN! ..maybe. XD

Ho, I'm the one that made you watch it! :0000
I very much enjoyed Higurashi

Higurashi No Naku Koroni is the first anime that actually made me kind of uneasy. Yeah, it may seem funny to some, but it actually scared me a bit. It's also the first anime that I, having the choice, first watched in Japanese. I was brought into anime, just as the dub's were getting good, so that's usually what I go for, but I have to say that Higurashi is better in it's original Japanese.
I especially love how Mion, (who reminds me a bit of a friend of mine, as many anime females do), carries around a gun, and no one says anything! Is it real? It looks real? Does no one ever say anything about it? Granted, I wouldn't be dumb enough to question it, but, you would thing that some poor idiot would say something, and then get shot, like, eight times. Then again, I've only seen the first volume.
KaiserMikeB - June 25, 2007 06:46 AM (GMT)
I always wondered about that gun...
and no, Higurashi is no comedy and isn't meant to be.
Codi - June 25, 2007 10:21 AM (GMT)
I never questioned the gun because I figured it since she was kind of the, "acting head" of the most important family, she would have the rights to carry a gun. Of course she doesn't *realllly* have the rights to do so (since Japan is pretty strict about that stuff) but since they're sort of yakuza-types.. I just kind of assumed she'd have a gun.
And I'm not sure how anyone could find Higurashi funny, it's not even cheesy-funny, it's down-right disturbing.
Batou19539 - July 7, 2007 04:38 AM (GMT)
I wish all Yakuza-types were pretty highschool girls.

So I picked up what there is of Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai. The awaited answer chapters. However, the final episodes were canceled. So. What do we do? Ready for a season three which has been announced. Interesting.

I thought for a sec this was about something else I saw a while ago... Can someone help me figure out the title of it?
It's about a family that runs a circus or a freak show or something and the girl falls in love with... I think... a guy that dives into glasses or can squeeze himself inside containers? And at the end she or they both turn into bugs or something?
It's been a really long time since I've seen it so I might be way off with the details.
KaiserMikeB - January 11, 2008 04:38 AM (GMT)
dude, you bought a bootleg! Haha!

Yeah, but I really wanted in Japanese, plus it was before the dub was out.
And as long as I can understand the subtitles without getting lost, then I'm okay with bootlegs.
Haha. D:'''''''
Codi - January 11, 2008 02:37 PM (GMT)
No, don't do that. Bootlegs are never okay. (see: Saiyuki bootlegs, pink elephants)
MoonlightsCurse - January 11, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
I tried watching it and never got through the first episode. I saw a couple AMVs of it that my friend made(they're amazing btw) and I just can't handle that much blood. But what I don't understand, is that I watch Elfen Lied. Wtf? LOTS of blood in that >_o I think its fun watching people bodies fly apart in many directions ^^
But seeing as a girls face is bashed in with a metal pipe is just too much x_x
KaiserMikeB - January 11, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
Fansubs are questionably immoral. Bootlegs are just plain evil.
NEVER BUY BOOTLEGS.
sahkoo - January 13, 2008 06:06 AM (GMT)
What else am I supposed to do? D':
Lothlin - January 13, 2008 07:35 AM (GMT)
The difference, the BIG difference, between Higurashi and Elfen Lied is that, while they both have copious amounts of crimson body fluid, EL is just dismemberment. Higurashi is friggen TORTURE. I've seen like, one scene from that anime, I don't know if I'd be able to watch the entire series.
KaiserMikeB - January 13, 2008 07:43 PM (GMT)
Buy it legitimately, DVD's come out pretty quickly these days.
If you can't wait that long, then download it online, but don't give money to the hands of crooks!
sahkoo - January 14, 2008 11:31 AM (GMT)
Wouldn't I technically be a crook, if I illeagally download it?
But that's better than illegally selling it, I guess?
KaiserMikeB - January 14, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
It's better to steal it yourself than to help someone make a LIVING off of STEALING it.
Plus the bootleggers aren't just taping it off TV and subbing it, they usually either download fansubs themselves and sell them, or rip the American release DVD's and sell those, so you get the english language version stolen as well.
Vincent - January 14, 2008 11:16 PM (GMT)
Also, check the dollar store. I went to a dollar general around here and there were a bunch of anime DVDs like, 2 for $6. Granted they weren't brand new anime, but thems cheap DVDs. Plus theres a lot of good old stuff.. So yeah. Check the dollar store.
CainLunax - January 15, 2008 06:58 PM (GMT)
I just finished watching the second season not too long ago.
They're making a live action movie for it too.
sahkoo - January 15, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
I've heard about the live action. C:
It sounds really fun.
