Title: Badge Art
Description: I haven't been here to talk about this!

Miccy - April 14, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
I found ALL the badges to be great, and I think they really improved this year with a lot of the art.

"Mike, damn, why so many?" and the when I got there, it's like, "That's why."

I saw a few people with the badge I made, and I wanted to go up to them, and be like, "Hey! I made that!" but who knows, maybe they didn't like it!

So I didn't...but I would have liked to hear more talk about the badges at Anime Punch.

Which ones did you guys find completely unrelated? [Please not too much bashing of the art it'self, but more of if you liked it.]

SweetMisery - April 15, 2007 03:18 AM (GMT)
A good portion of what I saw were really good, although I wish I could have seen all of them, there were some I was curious about, but couldn't find anyone with those particular badges.

Maybe you can explain why the goth one got changed to cutter, though? I'm curious but don't remember reading an explination on it ...

Maybe next year, have a way to preview the badge designs, instead of just the words to describe them with?

KaiserMikeB - April 15, 2007 09:34 AM (GMT)
again, I've already explained twice as to why we can't show the art ahead of time. People will make their own badges, and we can't have that.

I would like to post all of this years art here, though my computer died the day after the con, and I have yet to recover all the files. By the time I can get them back it may be too late for anyone to care, which is a shame because a lot of work went into those images.

Yeah.. People could easily buy the same badge-kit-thing that the con does, print off the images and make badges for them and all their friends. Hundreds(if not more) of people could potentially get into the con completely free of charge! That's not good!

Yuffie - April 15, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
It's never to late for anyone to care when it comes to art. ^_^ Really.

I remember seeing the 'Defense Lawyer' which was Phoenix Wright I think. I absolutely loved that badge, but at the same time was a little puzzled...it's a video game. But I only saw it once, and it was during the time where I was out of it so I may have been seeing things.

Another cool little advantage to not pre-releasing the art is that it gives people a reason to talk to each other at the con, like "Oh cool, can I see your badge?"

In my defense, I didn't know about that, the whole 'no previewing' thing, but I'm not using that as an excuse, i'm just saying ideas never hurt :) I understand why people could do that, but maybe put it in a way of 'this is what we had in years before' and just make sure that its totally different than the previous years or just be good at describing them? I was a bit worried about the catgirl one, *shrugs* again, ideas don't hurt.

Or you could just email us and ask. We have the email accounts for a reason you know...

yea, I realise that kind of stuff AFTER the fact lol

I liked a large majority of the badges. There where a few that could have been spruced up a bit. I think they where all way better than last years. kudos to all the artists.

I wish someone had gotten the Kaiju badge -le sigh- It was my favorite

LLMorphine - April 18, 2007 12:45 AM (GMT)
alright, I know the point about the badge previews was given, but what about a happy medium of lineart? It would show the most basic form of what's on the badge, and since it's unfinished, it wouldn't be replicatable as a valid badge, even if someone managed to get the same badge making kit, or color it in themselves (they wouldn't know what colors are being used). Not to mention if only the art is shown, not the layout of the badge, and using a different layout than this year's it would make it even harder to replicate.

I mean, I don't wanna sound like a grumpity-grump (too late haha) but.. no other con shows their badges before con-time, so why should AP? If anything, I'm grateful that AP even has the descriptions and allows people to choose their badge ahead of time, instead of getting something you may not like. (I mean.. you're not gonna choose "the Knights of Eastern Calculus" if you don't recognize the Lain.. right? Even if it's in vague wording, options are still be given then being given a standard badge.)

That's just my thought on it though. I'm grateful they have the options ^_^

Ya'll can see the 16 badge designs I did here. ^_^

I enjoyed waiting to see how each would be portrayed. :]
I overheard some people discussing some of the badges, and how they don't go with their appropriate badge title, but I didn't know what exactly I was doing drawing mine either.

The one I heard complained about the most was the Cyber Punk, I thought it was well done, but a lot of people that got it were dissapointed. [I brought up the art a lot with badges, and I wish I had seen them all!]

Basically I love how AP has the original idea of random badge arts, and I LOVE how it is with the choices, (even though I do say it's quite a selection).

Was there any badge that wasn't selected?

It's just as easy to copy a badge at a con than to attempt to make one before hand. Think about it, if you go, scan someones badge, wouldn't it be just as easy as providing hints of every badge type?

Not saying that it's bad to wait, because it makes me all excited to wait and see the badges. ^^ <3

I was going though this, and this was never answered for me.

Mike?

Alex - June 2, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
All badges were selected by at least one person, save for Argonaut and Plush Artist. So we made Argonaut the staff badge instead. ^_^

I didn't know which one to pick last year...

So when one of my friends was really curious about what 'incestuous time travellers' looked like... I picked that one.

Still don't know what it's a reference to/from @__@;

Edit: oh wait.. 12. Incestuous Time-Traveler: No series, the conchair told me "Do something with an older Penny and a younger Ann."

:D <3 <3

KaiserMikeB - January 15, 2008 01:06 AM (GMT)
It refers to Firetripper, as well as one or two other lesser known OVA's. There was one other major title but I can't remember it right now.

All badges are supposed to use Ann and Penny.

Tsugaru - January 16, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
Still doing this art thing again this year?

I have access to a tablet and good illustration programs at school this time around. I would love to give it another shot.

Is the list under the pre-reg area?

edit: I'm stupid, it is. :3

edit2: I'll email about doing more badges, I'm really wanting to do the Jrock one. :o

Kitty4777 - January 19, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
I was sort of sad to see bibliophile go away... .__.

Since I know what the art looks like NOW... D:
