Title: A Weekend In The Dungeon of Dance
Description: 72 hours of no sleep = legally insane.

Hello, all.

Being that I spent more or less my entire con inside a dimly-lit DDR room, I'd like to relay some of the more interesting things that happened. Those of you who shared this experience with me, please feel free to contribute.

Friday:

Setting up the game: Normally, when you think of setting up DDR, the equation goes like so:

Pad + Game + TV = Fun.

Of course, in my case, it went a little something like this.

(f)Pad (where f is a legally defined amount of frustration that can be expressed as a real number) + Computer with video lag / lack of TV's and necessary cables = ARGH. Solve for x.

And I wouldn't have it any other way. Con frustration is a necessary and vital part of the experience; as they say, no pain, no gain.

Dealings with GameJunkies on Friday: Essentially, there is nothing more to this story except that nobody knew who was running DDR, and there was a minor debacle about that. Again, not complaining, I find these things to be indicative of a con's awesomeness. Eventually, it was decided that I would run the tournament come Sunday. For me, kick-ass.

It should be noted that GJ should be much thanked for their supplement of a prize for our fair little tournament.

Saturday:

Mission Mode In The Morning: An awesome idea that hit me at 2:00 AM. Instead of just doing regular old free-play, we went ahead and set up the DDR for the Mission modes in Extreme and Extreme 2. From what I understand, it was well-received, and nobody really bitched to me that they couldn't play. A fun time was had by all.

Where's The Sign-Up Sheet?: Saturday afternoon, our sign-up sheet for the tournament went mysteriously missing. Eventually, we found it - stuck to my ass, since I had been sitting on it for well on two hours. Lack of sleep does that to you.

Pizza? Pizza!: Thanks to Nathan for this one, simply by virtue of the fact that he supplied us with mad pizza from Joseppi's. (For those of you unfamiliar, Joseppi's is easily one of the best pizza chains in Columbus. Also, for whomever printed their number in the booklet, it was the wrong location.) Nothing quite compliments sweaty dancing like pizza. I believe he spent about $100 in pizza over the course of the weekend, and maybe got to eat four dollars worth of it himself. Oh, well, there's always next year.

Three...Two...One...Doctor Tran!: Thanks to Nathan's HDTV, a few choice people were privy to Dr. Tran's antics in hi-def. For those of you who haven't yet seen this video, go look it up on YouTube or something. It's worth watching.

Sunday:

Single, or Double?: I remember having a 20 minute-long conversation with someone over the merits of single elimination over double elimination. Eventually, it was decided we would do single elimination for our tournament. There's really no reason for me to post this, simply because there's nothing out of the ordinary here, but I remember for days after the monstrous headache I had after arguing with this guy. If you're out there, shame on you. :domo:

Anyways, that's about it. Again, if you guys were there, by all means, post some of your more interesting experiences. I'd love to get different perspectives on these things, as well as other happenings in my little room.

Let's see..

I was only there saturday, so I will tell how it was.

Pizza:

No, I don't eat on cons often, quite literally. My brother liked the pizza, I wouldn't touch it. It did smell good though. So awesome dude with the cape, my brother thanks you.

IIDX:
All I could hear was "Tsu, your IIDX is lagging!!!" Sorry, I am unsure of how to correct it. I hope everyone enjoyed it.

9fts?:
I did a few 9s. I came home with a bruise. I think I stumbled and hit something, maybe a chair. =\

Many thanks to you, my man, for making it so awesome, that room. And allowing me to hook up IIDX. Did anyone see my bmUS disk yet? o_o;;

Erm, I wasn't technically a staffer, but by the end of Sunday night Mike was convinced I was and just wasn't wearing an arm band xD Thus, I shall share my thoughts.

Pizza: Other than the rave, the DDR room was where people burned the most calories. Pizza + carbohydrate deprived con goers = exellence in my book. Definately bonus points for Nathan for that ^^

Tournament: Since we didn't have that many people and the few that were there needed to be places, I think it was a good idea to do single elimination. The prize was a nice shiny medal which I thought was a great idea. All the tournaments I've been to have had the prize of $20 worth of Namco tokens for first place, $10 worth for second, and $5 worth for third. All of this can be spent easily if you put your mind to it and have about an hour and a half free time in a Namco Arcade. The medal isn't as easy to lose and reminds you of the sleepless nights peeps had in the DDR room.

Three... Two.. One.. Doctor Tran!: *orgasms* :D I was one of the "few choice people privy to Dr. Tran's antics in hi-def." Watching that made my day, and I thankyou David.

Setting up the Game: Do you need a huggle, Dave? :3

That's all I can think of, really. I spent most of my weekend in that room, while I was waiting for select panals/events to happen. I met most of the friends I made in there, and I have no regrets (except maybe for poking Dave when he was asleep on the floor). Thus I reward him with +5 Boots of DDR'ing. Use them next con, ja? ;P

Doctor Tran makes me think of Tran from IIDX as a doctor.. :o

...What exactly is this 'Doctor Tran'?

You better staff next year. Or poke Mike about it. Or hell, at least come, because if you don't come, I'm flying out and dragging you ;p
