Title: Closing Ceremonies

Vincent - April 2, 2007 11:29 AM (GMT)
What was with all the damn furries?! Also, how is that the first time I saw them the entire con? That's kind of hard to miss!

Lothlin - April 2, 2007 01:21 PM (GMT)
Apparantly when Mike said we were going to have a Furrycost, they went to their rooms and put on the costumes to... well, I don't know what the hell they were doing. But they're lucky they didn't get cattle prodded XD

....poor Chuck XD....

Lilith's Dark Shadow - April 2, 2007 04:38 PM (GMT)
goddamn furries, i made fun of steve the entire con for that, it made me lol inside

lycwolf - April 2, 2007 05:16 PM (GMT)
You people seriously need to grow up...

Lothlin - April 2, 2007 05:41 PM (GMT)
I was poking fun at Steve the entire con for something else entirely. But I'm not so mean as to share that joke XD

please tell that to the furries

p.s. (arbitrary large number)% of 'grown ups' still do that sort of thing

AngelicRogue - April 2, 2007 06:30 PM (GMT)
But I love the furries :`(

Drifter - April 2, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
Hey man.... There's nothing wrong with a little tail and ears.

Still, furry, or George Bush? YOU MAKE THE CHOICE.

Poor Chuck indeed.

Lucky for him Robert knew what he was doing. XD

@Ethan: I'll admit I gave Steve a hard time all weekend, but it's all in jest. Sean Connery-esque jest, you montebank.

The fursuits, though, are a bit much to many people.

There were a lot of assorted furs about Saturday evening.

lycwolf - April 2, 2007 11:22 PM (GMT)
It would have been funny if it wasn't so random at the end... Katty is upset about the overall scene that took place at the end of the closing... Not that anyone can be blamed but it still did seem a bit out of place, even with the big pool of bukkake...

O well, I hope this gets resolved quickly, I don't want to see anyone get a bad taste for this con.

Lothlin - April 2, 2007 11:24 PM (GMT)
Wait, what scene at the end of closing. The folks in fursuits?

someguy - April 2, 2007 11:32 PM (GMT)
Pulled this off a blog...

Something I received from Ohio Fur which sucks
I got this from the Ohio Fur mailing list...since some others had put this in their LJ to spread it along and inform people about this con, I thought I'd do the same even though I don't think I know anyone who goes to this con...

So Saturday and yesterday, I visited the anime con called Anime Punch,
which is a small Columbus-based anime convention. I was wearing my
pokemon costume since I made it partially because I frequent anime
cons. A few other fursuiters happened by as well.

Well, we got harassed bigtime. Aside from "ewww furries" remarks from
some of the congoers and such, I even got mistreated by the con-chair
himself! Some lackey working for the convention came up to me and
said "I have a message to you from the con-chair," and when I turned
in reply, he pretended to blow my brains out. So I thought, "hmm..
they don't like pokemon" 'cause this stuff happens all the time. You
know, people being dumb and stuff. The fursuiters did get a lot of
good attention, so it wasn't like we got bashed all evening. But then
Sunday, at the closing ceremonies, the staff did a public
furry-bashing. So I walked into the ceremony. (A furry working for
the convention explained what they were saying) As I went in, it
caused a commotion, and they announced onstage that they didn't want
furries or people in furry costumes to show up to the convention next
year. Mixed response from the audience.
Then, the conchair sent a guy with a REAL cattle prod after me! Some
of the people on stage cheered, and some of the crowd got antsy. I
picked up a damn chair. Then it was mad commotion. So three people
jumped up out of the crowd and got between me and cattle-prod guy.
One guy wrestled the chair out of my paws, and the other two
shoved/swung at cattle-prod guy. (They were apparently furs) Two
other fursuiters came in. After they made nasty comments, one gave
them the finger. (I tried to flip the bird, but I only have 3 fingers
anyway, so it doesn't look right) We stood our ground and a good half
of the audience came up and hugged us as they were leaving and said
they didn't want us to leave. We got a few nasty comments from
people. Then when we were leaving, we walked up the hall leading to
the door, and the whole staff was there. Some of them made nasty
comments, and one even tried to pick a fight with one of us. So I
finally spoke (Kept character the whole time) and told them that they
really didn't want our money. They said "You made your point, now
leave"...

I just...when I read this I at first felt like I didn't give a crap because they're just ignorant people, but then I thought how odd it was that people who enjoy watching anime which, in and of itself, is not quite accepted by society, would do that do a fellow fandom...I understand its just a really small con in Columbus and its not like AnimeCon kicked out all furs, but still...that is really rotten and apparently some of the people from Ohio Fur are pretty well-liked at this Anime Punch con and are going to "have a word" with a few of the higher-ups of the con, so we'll see what happens. If anything substantial happens, I shall let y'all know.

Lilith's Dark Shadow - April 3, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
completely hilarious, i wish i had actualy gone to the closing ceremony had i known that was going to happen

nothing substantial is going to happen because quite frankly, picking on furries is just to damn amusing to stop alienating them

I'm no fan of the fursuits. But I see nothing wrong with it. Their life, their business, and it's not your concern unless you wanna be a dick to them for the simple fact they dress up strangely. But hey, hypocrites are around. I mean, afterall, it's not like the place wasn't full of people dressing up strangely as it was. ;P

People need to lighten up.

And if that whole blog thing is true, well, I hope somehow those fursuits become magically bonded and every furry at the NEXT convention turns into a faving animal and rips people to shreds. Now THAT would be hilarious to watch.

"Run away, the furries are eating everybody!"

You see? Do you all see now?! This is what happens when you shut down The Hole.

Also, nothing substantial will happen? Well, yeah, most likely. But I'm sure Satan thought the same thing when he flipped God the bird and left.

Thankfully, I wasn't at the closing stuff when this happened, otherwise I'd have to have done more then bust a chair on somebody. Am I furry? I dunno. At some level, I'm sure simply anthro counts to some. But will I defend a furry when they're attacked, assualted, even simply insulted for no damn good reason? Yes.

Can't we all just, not be complete dicks to each other? Screw getting along, that's been out the window for a long time. Just don't be a cockbite. XD

Lothlin - April 3, 2007 12:45 AM (GMT)
Can't we... all learn to take a joke? Even off color jokes! Fuck, for a bunch of people who spent the entire weekend making jokes about bawls, the lack of humor surprises me. I'm about 99% sure that NO ONE that wasn't staff or good friends with staff was going to get poked with the damn cattle prod.

Though, as far as the 'message from the conchair' goes, I'm scratching myself and wondering if it's even true. Like. Seriously. Mike barely had time to THINK, let alone delagate the busy staffers to go harrass the congoers. Message me if you did it, I really bloody want to know.

Drifter - April 3, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)
Hey, How many Nazi's does it take to screw in a Lightbulb?

Just one to go tell some Jew to do it for them.

Sense of humor, fine, I was directing it more towards this crap on the thread. Since I'm either completely oblivious, or the sarcasm was lost on me. Hence all the light remarks I made, and the one almost-serious comment. XD

Still, wasn't there. Doesn't matter. besides, what's done is done. Just next year if they pull a cattleprod again, I hope the furs pull some out too. XD Nothing like a branding battle.

unseengbh - April 3, 2007 12:52 AM (GMT)
Was the cattle prod even on?

closing ceremonies were fun but there were like 25 people in the room. And like 3/4 were staffers.

I was so sad when it was over.

Lothlin - April 3, 2007 12:56 AM (GMT)
Godwin's law, you lose.

Seriously. If there are furries who honestly think that their plight (is there a plight,) is as bad as they holocaust, they have bigger issues going on.

EDIT: Dunno if it was on. I doubt it.

Drifter - April 3, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
I have no idea how the Holocaust got involved in this. Did I miss something? But believe you me, it'll happen. It's only a matter of time until those damned Nazi's go after the furries. It's only a matter of time until you see people in dog suits chained behind chain-link fences. Ironic, no?

Help fight Nazi's. Buy an american made car today.

Aaaand *lazy*

Lothlin - April 3, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
...what the hell dude. You compared FURRIES to JEWS and brought in Nazi's, invoked Godwin's Law, and you think the holocaust has nothing to do with it?

Also. What on earth are you even bloody talking about?

Drifter - April 3, 2007 01:09 AM (GMT)
I didn't compare furries to Jews. I simply made a Nazi joke. No comparison involved. XD If you saw one, that's you.

As for what I'm talking about. Who the hell knows. Niether of us do, apparently.

EDIT: I suppose I should flee in terror and hide under a rock somewhere, as I'm sure I've established justification to get yelled at. XD

Lothlin - April 3, 2007 01:13 AM (GMT)
*headdesks*

You are implying that is as offensive to make a Nazi joke to a Jew that brings in the fucking holocaust (in which MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DIED,) to... well, I don't know what you're comparing it to, but seriously, Jews have a lot more reason to be pissed, trust me. And everyone enjoys an off-color joke at times, seriously.

With all the sexist jokes that are out there that people tell, I can either get up in arms and give myself a fucking aneurysm, or I can just laugh along with it and prove I'm not a raving thin skinned lunatic. And hell, make jokes at their expense. And I'll tell yah, it's not like I chose to have boobs here. A lot less than a furry chooses to be a furry.

EDIT: Too late XD

a-lil-neko_with-a-taco - April 3, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
i missed the closing ceremonies.. i had a 5-7 hour drive ahead of me and my friend.. woo

Drifter - April 3, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
Implying? Oh no no no, you see, that requires EFFORT. I say the first thing that comes to mind, no hidden meanings. XD You said something about taking a damn joke, and I was just trying to point out, I do. I usually shrug off anything 'offensive'. I don't really care half the time. But being blatently douche-y to someone, and kidding around, are indeed different matters all together. It's one of the few things that actually annoy me. That and people hitting on other peoples girlfriends...<.< That just kills me.

The jews, oh hell yes have more reason to be pissed. XD I never once mentioned ANY similarity between Jews and Furries. But somewhere in the world I'm sure there are both at the same time.

If you took it the wrong way, well hey, my bad. ;3 I was just rambling anyways. You should have ignored me.

And now. *flees under a rock*

EDIT: Cause I'm lazy XD

How do you KNOW they were being douchy? You were not there.

I was refering to this thread, not what happened. I have nothing to go off of from proof of what happened, I was refering to the general attitude in response to the Furries being there.

And now..*returns to hiding*

Whatever though. Just, whatever.

kamon keronji - April 3, 2007 01:34 AM (GMT)
Damn! I cannot believe that I missed the end of the closing ceremonies.

I don't want to be mean BUT I think its a good idea for no furries at the next con. unless your a nekomimi or catboy then by all means come. but you are right, the furries suits were abit much. except the naruto one.

Yuffie - April 3, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
That would really surprise me if our conchair did that, and I keep thinking that things couldn't have been that bad. Especially since the don't like pokemon thing is a poor representation! Being a staffer, and a full blown pokemon fan myself after all. We had a pokemon panal too.

But if that happened as a joke, it was really bad taste.

Codi - April 3, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
Seriously though, der Kaiser makes fun of everything, including himself. Furries stood as much of a chance of being mocked as ball-jointed dolls or the original Captain Harlock dub.

Did the BJD owners come to overthrow closing? Naw, they didn't.
If anything it was more, "WTF where did all these guys come from??" than, "Eww omg omg omg furries get it away eww."

So Saturday and yesterday, I visited the anime con called Anime Punch,

Who posted that story? I was the guy who pretended to wrestle a chair from one of the furries. The anime otaku vs furries rivalry is like Star Wars vs Star Trek, ninjas vs pirates, or Ohio State vs Michigan. I didn't pull very hard on the chair, my fists stopped a foot away from the guy who grabbed the cattle prod, and no one took me seriously when I said you can estimate the height of a building by dropping a furry from the top and measuring how long it takes to land. Mike was smiling and laughing when he insulted the furries. It's an act.

Lothlin - April 3, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
Agreed with the 'Mike makes fun of everything bit.' The guy is more of an Eva fan than most of it, but have you heard his Eva disseration at Your Fav Anime Sucks? It's longer than any other!

If there was a misunderstanding, ok, but if someone is wearing a fursuit, it's a bit hard to convey distress, you know? We wouldn't have KNOWN through the mask that the joke was being taken seriously, especially when the person in question picked up a chair in a manner that, from stage, looked to be in good fun and going along with the joke.

and you are right what people thought of the furries. I was even thinking "WTF where did all these guys come from??"

and I am sorry I had to leave early BUT I wanted to go back home to lancaster and get some sleep.

Chuck - April 3, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
Nobody was going to cattle prod any of the furries.

Having been prodded a few score times for everyone's entertainment, I can assure you that the only long-term damage it does is purely psychological.

Lothlin - April 3, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
Aren't you glad he got all of those questions right though? XD

Chuck - April 3, 2007 03:00 AM (GMT)
Yeah, much better than last year. The people answering last year didn't really seem to be too terribly concerned that every time something was said, I got prodded; this guy actually had a conscience.

Because the furries will obviously overrun you and all you know, bashing in windows and generally tearing things to bits in a modern Kristallnacht.

Mmmmyeah. You keep thinking along those lines.

Anyway, back on topic.

It really doesn't matter if it was all in good fun or not, or whether or not the cattle prod was actually on. Cattle prods aren't toys, and they really shouldn't be treated as such, given that their effect, perceived or actual, can be fairly significant.

For myself, I'm terrified of anything electrical, and I probably would have freaked out if someone went after me with anything resembling a cattle prod or a taser. And while that might be amusing, that will whittle down future audiences fast, and even moreso if the administration seems like it doesn't care.

Or it might draw the S&M crowd.

Which may or may not be even worse.

Dripdry47 - April 3, 2007 03:54 AM (GMT)
Freaked out by furs?
Let me ask y'all something.

Whats worse?. A person in a fursuit, or a 300 pound bearded GUY dressed up as Sailor Moon?

You folks are no bastion of good taste either. Guro, ecchi, pictures depicting pantyshots of little girls, amputation.

And you think furs are all vulgar and disgusting?.

Yeah, WTF ever.

Okay, I'm with you only if you meant hairy Sailor Moon guy doing a panty shot.

Kaisermikeb - April 3, 2007 05:35 AM (GMT)
Since I seem to have actually offended this girl I'm not going to say too much until I get a chance to talk to her.

In the meantime, however, I will say that it WAS just a joke, that Chuck would never shock a random attendee, and that I thought it was really cool that so many people rushed to her aid! It was a proud day for furries indeed, as more defended her than attacked!

I think next year, if people lighten up that is, we should have an official staff vs furry Random Battle (ala RBG) to keep the tradition and to create another awesome in-joke.

Oh yeah, for the record I never told anyone to go shoot the furry for me, or whatever. If anyone knows who it was that did that I would like to know IMMEDIATELY.
