Title: Cosplay Competition
Description: a question

Who is judging the cosplay competition/skits?

I don't need too much info, just first names are fine. I just want to get an idea of how many there will be and y'know, boys vs. girls and whatnot.

Is this information normally given out prior to a convention? Additionally, how is it beneficial? Were you wanting to check on the qualifications of the judges? I don't think knowing first names will give you insight into that or help you find costumes they have done before. If you just want to know males vs females (which I find very confusing!) then you really can't go by first names. I've known a guy named Ashley and a girl named Justin!

Yeah, I'm with Lady, cons don't usually reveal that to attendees. Ohayocon did reveal who most of the jugdes were on the forums, but that was only because the jugdes did so of their own free will, the masquerade director didn't volunteer their names for them.

That and you could...influence the judges. Like if you know it's all/mostly men, accent the right areas... xD

Mmm. Okay. I'll come clean. Is Michael judging?

Cause he had me send him part of our skit and I think that gives us an unfair disadvantage because he thought it sucked.

Which is a fair opinion, but hey. I hope to hell he's not judging because he already seems to dislike the whole idea.

I am one of the Judges. so your cosplay outfit has to be a little revealing in the right places "cough"

I honestly doubt Mike would be a judge.

To be honest his opinion doesn't matter much right. It's what everyone else thinks of your skit. Besides he hates a lot of things.

I'd spoken to Mike about judging for this con but no one ever got back to me to tell me what was expected of me. (judging system, times, criteria, etc) soooo I'm doing a skit with a friend. XD!

The rules are on the Anime Punch web site. These are the criteria I used last year. This year's judges might disagree.

I haven't seen the anime you're cosplaying, even if I actually have. That means even the Death Note cosplayers have to build good costumes or do good skits in order to get awards. It also means I don't get the in jokes, even if I actually do. It also means I ask for a reference.

In craftsmanship, goodness = precision * difficulty, but Melissa did most of the work in deciding how difficult the costumes were.

In skits and interpretive dance, goodness = delivery * difficulty.

I don't consciously give extra credit to the girls who do fan service.

The winners are decided first. Then the names of the awards are decided. Best skit, best interpretive dance, and best craftsmanship are the obvious ones. The winners who did less well than that got awards with names like best prop, best chibi conversion, fanserviciest, judge's award, scariest mask, and best single performance.

Um, no offense but I know HOW to judge. <_< I've judged at various cons including Ohayocon. I'm definately not a cosplay newb. :P

Judging criteria is differant than the actual rules though. Seeing as how I didn't judge last year, I'd wanted to know if Anime Punch was judging based on a points system or if they'd devised something else.
I just wanted to know what I'm getting into before the day of the con if you know what I mean. ^_^ Be prepared and all that.
