I haven't seen anything on a dance skimming the forums (though it's quite possible that I've missed something extremely obvious)... so I was wondering if there actually IS one. o_o Being a DJ, you get curious about what cons you can possibly DJ at, and so I'm curious. ^^;;

We will have at least two dances at AP06, and of course anyone is welcome to sign on! DJ Ed will probably have a pretty big say in that department though.

Actually, while I was in the shower (still in my towel) I was thinking about dances. I'm a little conflicted.

I really want to say Anime music and remixes only, I really do. This is becoming the exception rather than the rule lately, and at every congrip I've ever been to someone says "more anime music".
At the same time there will be other people besides us at the dance (hopefully) as I'm inviting the cheerleaders who are staying in the hotel to the dance (for a price, discounted if in uniform heh heh heh), and they might not stick around for too long if they don't like eurobeats and such. I'll probably go with the anime music though.

Also, I havn't decided on a theme for the counter-dance. This year AWA is doing a bebop/jazz thing, which sounds cool as hell, but I don't want to copycat (at least not in the same year). Another idea I had was for like... a formal. Slow dances and such. We could also do more of a rave type thing, and let Panda do his thing there. Even gather a collection of ear bleeding rock music and have a mosh thing.

Opinions?

I don't really know about the themes and such... but if we can make it to the con, Panda and I would both love to DJ. <3 I'll have to find out about it tonight.

And honestly, I don't really think an anime/anime remix only policy is a good idea. Sure, it's a good thing... but not in huge doses. Besides, assuming that Panda and I aren't the only possible DJs, there probably will be a lot of anime music (which I have noticed that Ed spins a lot of, and Kitty spins some of as well). Anime music is good, but it's not the only thing that's good... and it's not always the most danceable thing in the world. What I'm aiming for when I DJ doesn't really go along with the theme of anime cons, I suppose, but along with the theme of dances... and raves.

I would be happiest to go along with a psytrance type-ish thing for your counterdance idea, if you HAVE to have themed dances. It usually works pretty well to mush them all into one, though. :D

it's not that our dances HAVE to be themed. The main dance will probably have a good deal of flux, but I would like to have it focused on the whole Japan thing. The counter dance, however, I want to be more of a specialized event. Anime Weekend Atlanta does this every year and it rocks!

How about one dance we do a anime theme and the next be an all techno theme

I like the idea of a formal dance with slow songs, and a fast one in addition to the slow.

I like fast dances the best, but it's nice to have slow songs mixed in to give you a breather...(At school dances I always went to get a drink during slow songs)

Just keep the glow-stick kids away from me and I'll be fine in a dance. It's like half the people don't know how to maneuver them, at Sugoicon, I'd have to dodge so many of those god-forsaken glowsticks.

Have you not seen the glowsticks attatched to string? Kids flail them around like lassos and do figure eights formations and whatnot... :ph43r:

I think it'd be a good idea to throw in some slow songs every once in a while. Being the big sap I am... I like to slow dance, and I LOVE to make my boyfriend dance with me. ^__^

But, I'm always a sucker for a rave-type danceish. Gives me a chance to cut loose. (haha)

Anywho, I like the whole counter-dance Japan theme idea. I've got a lot of decorations and stuff, and I'd be willing to help out, as long as my stuff doesn't get messed up.

that is a really cool idea that next year we might be able to look into, but this year we have little money for guests that cool. I like the idea though, and I'll definatly look into it!

good question, as some of us will probably only be able to be there Saturday. Slow dance(s) and hardcore both sound cool. Depending on if the music will be only anime or not, I may have a suggestion or two...
