Title: What'd you wanna be?
Description: Now Most Of Us Are Grown Up

Miccy - March 14, 2007 11:29 PM (GMT)
So, I'm taking this Career Seminar class, and they're forcing us to remember what we used to want to be when you were younger, what'd you wanna be?
What are you more interested in now, and why'd you change your views?

I'm just wondering. It actually quite fassinates me how my own has changed.

I wanted to be an archaeologist. I always loved culture, and lost things. Not so into dinosaurs, but the way people live, etc.

I'm more into art and culture more like it. I love culture, and art.

Kind of hand in hand,

Soo?

LittleNicoleLost - March 14, 2007 11:33 PM (GMT)
I've always loved the past. And for the lnogest time I too wanted to study the time beyond. I even started taking Latin to further that knowledge.

But the way it looks. I think I'll end up in communications. I love languages, all of them.

Are you really going to become a translator?

:D I think that's cool.

I wanna visit countries a lot, and you will be my walking dictionary, AND translator.

LittleNicoleLost - March 14, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
Well I plan to minor in Japanese at UT...so our first trip is planned!

I wanted to be..An artist. Then I realized the sad sad truth that my art is limited to stick figures and will never get better. Now I like working with computers.

What kind of work?

Programming, graphics, etc.

Lothlin - March 15, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)
I wanted to be a movie start. Then I decided I hate the attention, so I decided on astronaut. Then I realized that's even LESS plausible, so I settled on artist.

And then I realized there's a good reason behind the 'starving artist' label, so I looked for a degree that'll actually be able to get me a job. XD

Yuffie - March 15, 2007 12:47 AM (GMT)
When I was little, I wanted to be a vet or a nurse. Especially a vet, I loved animals.

But neither turned out to be phesible as I realized just how fucked up vets were, and hard to be, and overall...I turned out squemish. I've nearly passed out in health class. xD

Now, I don't know what I want to do. And I have time to think about it. Maybe something animal related would be nice, enviromental managment appeals to me as well. But I really like working at the sewing machine and would like to do something with that, and I want to stay home, take care of a family, raise kidlets. ^_^ I'm so boring. And have no clue what I want.

If only life could work that way...

Yuffie, you remind me of my little sister like CRAZZYYY! -hug-

She still wants to be a vet, and with all my power, I'm going to let her be one. She's only 12 right now, but when she get to high school, I'll be desperate to help her through it all.

My moms never even thought about my future, and with my future coming fast, it's hard for me alone since my mom doesn't even want to look at any colleges, or is interested in me taking the ACT, or SAT, etc.

She could care less if I ended up with nothing.

:3 I'm not going to let my sister think twice about what she wants to be, and I'll help guide her to it. xD

I know when I hit high school, I wish now that someone helped guide me. Honestly, I really regret being so obnoxious my Freshmen year.

I want to work with children. :] And child art. God, I love when kids make me a picture. I have every piece that someones made for me. ^^; So maybe I'll work at a preschool, or in an elementary setting. :3

Something--and now to think. . . >>;;

<<;;; Still confused.

I've wanted to be famous ever since I can remember. Now it's not just being famous, but going from Broadway, to Movies, to Producing/Directing.

Ever seen Beaches? With Bette Midler? That's basically my future. A Chrous Line is my life now. Auditions, auditions, auditions. Non-stop shows. Craziness. The only reason I'm able to go to AP is because it caught me in-between shows. =/

But I love it. ^_^

Being famous is all well and good, but it doesn't last forever. At least not for most people.

Don't get me wrong, glory and fame are awesome. I wish I had half the talent needed for something like that. But don't you have a back up plan?

Kairi029 - March 15, 2007 02:09 AM (GMT)
Not to be vain, but I don't really need one...I don't want to get into it cuz I don't want to brag. But let's just say I know what I'm doing. I was put on Earth to entertain, and entertain I shall. There's nothing else I will ever do.

LittleNicoleLost - March 15, 2007 02:15 AM (GMT)
Mm, I just wanted to ask because I was curious of other interests. I did not mean to and I hope I didn't offend.

Well this will sound pretty fucked up but when I was like 4 or 5ish I wanted to be a farmer. Thats why I got interested in Harvest Moon games. It was mainly some weird form of nostalgia. Now I would love to direct films its impractical but I figure I'm young I'm allowed to have a bullshit dream for a few years. Hell an act of God just might occur and make it happen. If not when it gets crushed it will only make me stronger...or drive me to commit suicide.

Entertain, are you sure?

Though I hate to admit my teacher is correct in a back up plan, though things may work out, they don't always.

It's quite helpful to have other talents, and people stuggle for years to land something big.

People with too much confidence tend to find themselves shot down each time.

Of course I wanted to be famous when I was younger, and then I realized it's too much pressure. Too much drama, and I just want a family, and a something steady.

Fame doesn't last forever. Unless you enjoy embarassing yourself.

Try shaving your head one day.

It works for Brittany Spears.

The first thing I can remember wanting to be was a nurse. Then an artist. I think there was a ballerina in there somewhere in my very young, formative years.

But then in elementary school, I got into Astronomy. So I wanted to be an astronomer/astrophysicist for awhile.

Then I saw movies like Independence Day and Men in Black. I wanted to design special effects for movies. Shortly after that, I wanted to be an artist again. In all actuality, I never stopped wanting to be an artist to begin with, but these other things kind of pulled up alongside it. ^_^;

Then when I got into anime, I thought about animation. Then I realized what I love the most is storytelling. So now I'm a comic artist and illustrator.

And that's my mildly interesting life story. ^_^;

For this one time I'm not going to blatantly insult you, should whatever crazy hope you have fall through, you're going to be dead in the water, end of story.

Unless of course you're willing to whore yourself out for any chance you get, then you might stand a chance.

I'm a mixed bag. While back up plans are good and all (I've got bunchdes,) my theatre teacher has said before that some people just have theatre in their blood and they can't do anything else. They love it, it's their life... which is why people do theatre, even though it pretty much sucks sometimes

He may have been waxing poetic though.

(Still, a back up plan would be good. And you really do sound vain.))

Vincent - March 15, 2007 05:52 AM (GMT)
Very vain indeed. When you have to say "Not to be vain" It should be obvious that it's exactly what you're doing.

Kaisermikeb - March 15, 2007 07:28 AM (GMT)
If you're under 18 don't post in this thread, especially if your current plan is Moviestar, astronaut, or Spy.

I always wanted to be an engineer or architect, but science got too interesting and distracted me from that, so I sort of progressed from Engineering to physics to bio to biochem (dna stuff) and finally to psycholinguistics and psychology.

I'd still give up everything to be a special agent or something though.

Wyatt - March 15, 2007 11:10 AM (GMT)
Back when they taught us "science class" I wanted to be a scientist and do...well, "science." That progressed into Paleontology, Biology, Chemistry Physics, ant then I got to Jr. High and discovered that I am absolutely worthless at higher mathematics. So now I'm studying computeres and linguistics- I figure I'll manage to do SOMETHING with that... <_<

Yuffie - March 15, 2007 12:47 PM (GMT)
*ignores Mike*

You remind me of one of my cousins so much Mike. ^_^

*hugs Miccy* I may just be everyone's universal little sister. xD

Make sure she's not a corrupted vet. My old cat has a vet that nearly killed her two different ways. One was we'd leave her there over vaction, and it turned out they forgot to give her water alot, so once or twice she came back very sick. Another, she had some problem, so the vet insisted that we buy special food from them that would help her. But...she wouldn't eat it. My mom tried to convince the vet to let us buy a different food, but no, we had to use their special food, she'd eat it when she got hungry.

My cat nearly starved to death. My mom rushed her to another vet that gave us food that, had a brandname that was just like the special food, but since she wouldn't eat that, went with the next best thing. Now, I wish we'd pressed charges against the clinc, they're still open.

One of the hard things about thinking about what I want to do, is I have a hard time, well, connecting with people. I can't really explain it, I really have almost no idea what's okay and not okay to say or do, or understand relationships with people, it's all a very simple view. It's like my brain is broken in that area or something. I don't think I'll ever be able to do a job that requires any deep connection with people. But I'm friendly, that's got to be good for something. ^_^

I'm sure I'll figure it out. Though my advisor has me pinned down for business(even if that and the above statment really don't mix) and I'm probably not going to get out of it--she's like that. But I'll get to sell Teddy Bears if I do business. ^_^

Lothlin - March 15, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
One of my good friends from back home had a run in with a bad vet, and unfortunately, because of it, they lost their sweet old cat earlier than she would have died otherwise.

It's a bit of a long story, but she was sick, and to treat it, they put her on this special low-protein food. Why is this a bad thing?

Cats are obligate carnivores.

She basically starting eating her own muscles until the point where she could barely walk, and well... she died. I nearly cried when I heard this, she really was such a sweet beautiful cat. Sometimes I hate idiot vets.

You discovered you were worthless at higher level mathematics in junior high? Surely, they didn't get too high level in Jr. High. I mean computers and linguistics? I made a rudimentary syntax parser in an intro class, and I think it required more math than jr. high. No need to sell yourself short.

I think once you learn more about business, you'll find that it's the perfect job for you. As long as you can pretend to like people you'll go far in life.

edit: I should add my bit.

I decided I liked computers and building, so at one point I wanted to like design houses and stuff. Long before I had my first CAD class though, I changed my mind, and decided I wanted to make computers, I didn't really know what that meant, but eventually I figured out I wanted that to be computer chips. Then it became nano scaled microchips. That's what I'm doing now. Sometimes though, I think is learning all this quantum worth it. (Clearly the answer is yes.)

bla bla biochem bla bla psychology

Thank god you stopped doing biochem, as much fun as it is to replicate DNA ad nauseum while trying to isolate specific genes using processes that appear to be close to arbitrary and luck, I never can stand doing serious biology. It's interesting enough I suppose, but meh. Also, psychology? I'm going to show of my ignorance mixed in with some disdain, and just say that psychology is a fake science.

I note a lot of things have to do with Science in today's awesome jobs.

Sad thing is: I fail at Science.
Purely, I truely do.

That's why I couldn't discover anything--I need science.

Surprisingly, I'm extremely good at Earth Science, but that doesn't count in main science classes.

I'm good at Biology too--but I fail at Chemesty! BioChem, I can do, but not Chemestry.

I'm good at Math, but Chemestry scares me.

Lol--Yuffie, it's because your so small and cute. It's hard to believe your so young sometimes though.

I can see a Mike as a secret agent...but yes, highly doubtful.

wait, what?

So, you're bad at science but then you list like all of them which you're actually good at.

Ridiculous. Especially since, Eric Lander says this is biology's golden age.

Also, Good at biochem but not chemistry.

I don't know where you took biochem, or where you took chemistry but somewhere along the way someone divided by 0.

biochem is all of molecular biology and all of chemistry shoved into one topic.

I think it was described as the chemistry of biological systems. In chemistry you do stuff like find the the ph of solutions and titrate and all that junk right.

Biochem it's the same but in the body. Right say you're talking about respiration, real big biology subject. You need to know how that ATP is formed. Oh snap, what happens when I do stuff like add some hydrogens to my glucose, oh snap, I have me a buffer, doing some titrations, protonating some molecules. Wait, was that a shit load of chemistry? I think it was.

also, TCA cycle = soo much chemistry. Damn that Krebs.

what else, bonding is essentially what chemistry ends up being. Want to talk about some substrates interacting with some proteins. Just how does a nerve ending work, something to do with concentration gradients and active potentials?

DNA? polypeptide bonds nitrogen bases. more enzymes.

And then I'm going to just list off a bunch of things that I haven't mentioned specifically yet.

Secondary Bonding, tertiary bonding, electronegativity, hydrophobic/phyllic, other stuff I don't even know because I don't like the life sciences.

So it looks like you could probably do science stuff pretty well, as long as you can do biochem.

Too bad you were wrong about all the cool things being in science. All the cool things are being done in engineering.

Miccy - March 15, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
I mentioned, I'm not good at science, let alone understand them.

I understand biochem, breifly. I'm destroyed when it's pure chemesty.

I do know a lot about the earth though, and how it works, and how things work, but not chemestry, and chemicals.

Haha, wow, dude. You could have said one sentence to sum up a whole few paragraphs you wrote, which was apparently a waist of time. ^_^

[...]
And I totally think you'd make a great art teacher at the elementary level.

1) That's because you haven't engineered your boat to have enough buoyancy. So the buoyant force has to be equal to the volume of the submerged part times the density of the fluid times the volume of the boat submerged time the acceleration of gravity.

Ironically enough the reason why engineering isn't floating your boat is because it must not be that dense. Plus your boats probably too skinny.

the buoyant force has to of course equal your weight plus the weight of your boat which we'll call F_mM. set that equal to the above equation, and I say your boat has to submerge a volume equal to: F_mM/(-g*rho) g is the acceleration of gravity, rho is density, yadda yadda.

so what you do is just set the dimensions of your boat to maximize for V, plug it in to make sure it fits our constraint. And your boat is floating. Yes!!!

(thanks to the Internets for esoteric things like buoyancy equations)

2) I know you were saying she was like good with kids or something. But if I tilt my head to the side it sounds like your saying she's bad enough at art that she can only teach elementary school kids.

1.) The only engineering I've ever been interested in is computer engineering. But the college I'm going to has everything I want. ^^ Including engineering.

then when I was 16 I was thinking of being a fanfiction writer becuse I had some awsome spinoffs of anime's I wanted to make. which at this point I am working on.

When I turned 18 I wanted to be a owner and operator of a 50's diner in lancaster. The Tin Roof Diner was my hangout here in lancaster until latly when they went out of buisness. I soon found out that their customers over the years diminished little by little. so I kinda gave up on that career.

I'll admit. I'm still learning, a lot, and since I got into the Advanced Studio Art (yay! I thought I wouldn't! x3) I think that's a HUGE chance for me to improve. I'm not good at sculpture, so Macfarlane said I should take the class, and I am.

Kamon, I'm sure if you put your mind to it, you could do something.

Please don't allow yourself to live of fanfictions.

Unless your REALLY good, you wont make any living off that.

And I realize if Art is going to be my field, it'll be as a side job to something.
Something for a little bit of cash every now and then, ya know?

So maybe you can get a little bit of extra schooling?

What else would you have been interested in besides writing fanfictions.

Which I've never known to make any money.
