i love the part were the kind is eating in apple stabbing people in the hearts and then says there no reason we cant be civil

Lothlin - March 19, 2007 07:32 PM (GMT)
The movie is gorgeous. It's like a bloody living painting, I'm buying that sucker the moment it comes out on DVD. And trust me, it's not just for the 300 extraordinarily muscular, scantily clad spartans. Nope. Not at all.

Kairi029 - March 20, 2007 02:39 AM (GMT)
Is there sexs?

Lothlin - March 20, 2007 02:48 AM (GMT)
A little bit, why?

No but there are some quasi erotic moments mainly targeted at men. Although Lothlin mentions female views of the movie I had not considered before.

Lothlin - March 20, 2007 03:32 AM (GMT)
What? Scantily clad men in leather underwear? RIDICULOUSLY muscular and smexy men in leather underwear? How could you miss it!

smokie - March 20, 2007 04:19 AM (GMT)
I don't view anyhing with a penis as being attractive. Not being homophobic but I just don't view men in that way.

angelofodd - March 20, 2007 05:25 AM (GMT)
they went to play girl to get half the guys i heard haha

Kaisermikeb - March 20, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
Not to correct you or anything, but there is sex. Leonitus lays the FUCK out of his wife! They go through the whole damn kamasutra!

Lothlin - March 20, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)

They looked like mushrooms sprouting from her chest. Freaked and grossed me out completely.

I didn't like this movie. If they had just gone with hardcore manly brutal action, I would have loved it. Instead they had to have titties (including the slow-mo jiggles of freaky-tit Gorgo, yeah, that was necessary) and an attempt at a storyline and *gags*romance.

Additionally, I've found a few others who feel this way, but surprisingly few - the portrayals of the Spartans vs. the "other" was rather disturbing to me. The Spartans were white, strong, heterosexual people who valued freedom, reason, and intelligence. The Persian army was African, Asian, sexually ambiguous people who tortured and enslaved people. It was very much a war propaganda film. How much of that is based on the comic, I'm not sure. Regardless, I found that theme to be bothersome, and all the titties on top of that just made me hate the movie and want to walk out on it as soon as the harm orgy scene came up.

Kaisermikeb - March 23, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
But it WAS the persian army! They WERE made up of many conqoured races from... never mind. White people are the devil, the world is racist, whatever.

Kag-ST - March 23, 2007 09:14 PM (GMT)
I hear alot of people talking about 300 having massive sex scenes and nudity, but, is it just me or does it seem pretty tame?

Lothlin - March 23, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
The movie had a lot less sex than most R movies do today, really, I didn't find it that obtrusive at all. And it was defining the fact that Gorgo and Leonidus did have a relationship, and it was a loving one, et cetera et cetera. It wasn't a ten-minute-long sex extravaganza full of huffing and puffing and gratuitous humping shots.

And what's wrong with a plot? Really. I thought the storyline was good, and while not totally historically accurate, it's a movie based off a comic book based off a historical event, they're allowed some dramatic license. It would have been shitty if there wasn't a storyline, just another movie with too much violence.

And yes. It was Spartans (whites) Vs. Persians (rainbow of colors, omg!). But, that's historically what it was. The Greeks (defense,) VS. the Persians (the invaders.) Are you saying that for the sake of political correctness they should change the perception of history?

It's not like either side was presented as wholly good or wholly evil. I mean, shit, Xerxces offered them life if they would just surrender. Sure, he was invading, but he gave them all a chance to live without bloodshed. The Spartans (and the Athenians,) on the other hand, refused to give in.

That's ignoring the fact that Spartans were shown as killing their newborn children if they weren't perfect, and Leonidus did cruelly cast away the hunchback. His reasoning was logical, but lacked compassion, and really, those aren't wholly positive views.

But. I ramble.

(BTW, war propaganda? Have you ever read anything on the Battle of Thermopylae? Really? It's violent, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DIED. Srsly. History is violent, and it always will be.)

Kaisermikeb - March 23, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
Duh, Lothlin, if it's anything short of the liberal ideal then it's evil, racist, pro-Bush, American propaganda! Clearly this film was created to support Bush's decision to go to Iraq, and to glorify the Aryan race!

Lady, please stop giving us leftists a bad name. Seriously.

Lothlin - March 24, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
Oh, you're right Mike, how could I have missed it! Such a horrible nazi-and-Bush supporting movie!

x.x (Though really, Aryans were originally people that immigrated to northern India, but that's a whole other cup of tea. Hitler had odd ideas. Well, besides the obvious XD. Which was more horrid, and less odd.)

Kairi029 - March 24, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
300 to me was overrated. I would have rather watched V for Vendetta. I'm not saying it was a bad movie, but I was deffinetly dissapointed... <_<

angelofodd - March 24, 2007 05:32 AM (GMT)
hey i;ve got an idea lets think of it as just a movie. there are some things were just supposed to something to like and be pretty. its like me looking at a sunflower and hate it cuz its taller than other plants

V for Vendetta is sweet but its no 300.

Also Lothlin Hitler didn't come up with the Aryan being some white master race. I believe it was some British Social Darwinist during the mid 1800s.

Haha, wouldn't that make more sense if I'd said I was leftist and/or posted after my initial one to say something about "Bwa! Down with Bush!" ? If anything, I'd say I'm pretty conservative when it comes to a lot of issues.

As I said in my initial post, I don't know how much of this movie was taken directly from the comic, and perhaps it was a completely literal interpretation of the material (though I hear that the original comic has the dudes naked all the time.) If it's all directly from the comic, then I have issues with the comic and that's the end of that.

(And it's certainly possible that I'm only even reading into these issues because of the current social issues we have going on with the war in Iraq. Again, if the movie is 100% faithful to the comic, which was written many years ago, then it's just our current events flavoring how I'm seeing the movie. I've never read the comic.)

As for historical issues, Spartans had slaves, too! It wasn't really 300 men, but 300 plus about 1,000 "volunteers" from another nation. Spartans were pretty down with homosexuality. They weren't about reason and thought - they were about brute military strength. Women had higher status in Sparta than any other Greek nation, holding political power and owning lots of land - there weren't even laws about faithfulness, as Spartan men and women were free to have sex with whomever they wanted, even if they were married. So, really, you can either argue about the made-up movie story OR you can argue about historical accuracies. I find it makes more sense to argue about the accuracy to the source material, which, in this case, is a made-up comic book inspired by a real-life battle.

I like violence in movies, and I'd hoped that was all I would get with 300. Titties, an attempt at a plot line, and romance were not things I went to see, and, thus, I was disappointed. The political/racial stuff was a minor thing that bothered me - the big ones were titties, plot, and romance.

smokie - March 26, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Lady don't bad mouth the comic. Frank Miller is THE FUCKING MAN! He is a super pimp with adatimantium ninja balls. If he touches shit it turns into chocolate. Hope you get that straight.

For the record I was just at my local comic book shop and the men are not naked in the 300 comic. They are sparsely clad and its pretty much just like they were in the movie.
