No it's because for the most part most girls idea's of good porn (aka yoai) has just relatively recently been excepted, (just slightly due to homophobes) and so we tend to be more happy and joyous about it. Plus girls seem to be more willing to spend good money on a good yoai, where as boys tend to not want to part with theirs on such things, and choose to just download less tastefull porn. Which most of which are generic and don't call forth dicussion or praise where as most girls tend to seek out and purchase well written yoai.

Please spell yaoi correctly.

And as far as tasteful and good yaoi goes... cruise around Y!gallery for a bit. Sure, there's good porn (buried somewhere in the recesses,) and there's decent softcore stuff, and lots of stuff that doesn't have anything to do with porn at all...

But then there is really bad stuff. Stuff that makes you TWITCH in horror. Really, porn is porn across the board, be it good or bad.

What others said about yaoi types being annoying is clearly an observation. You acted like you were describing facts, when most of it was just pulled out of your ass or based on your own observations (which contrary to LDS's statement, isn't meaningful).

Well most girls I know seek out no porn, those who do seek out gay porn including, some of my freind's teacher. (This one in particular though does go for anything, she's the advacned sexuality teacher.)

And actually it is based on things brought up in my freind's class. That boys are more likey to purchase a video format porn or download one than they are to buy a paper format (as in book or magizine)

And when my friends and i went to purchase a yoai that was a large collection of several yoai's some boys there siad now why don't they come out with a big book of yuri. Along with some of our guy freinds, and it was brought up if there was such a book would they be willing to pay the $20 for it, (that's how much the yoai book was) and they all (that's 5 boys at that particular moment)all said no I'd rather just go home and download some.

.....Really, and this could mainly be that I just got done watching V for Vendetta and thus I'm feeling political, but I'm willing to bet that half of the reason you think women seek out porn less than men is because women are more opressed by societies expectations. I could go more, but eh, it would mostly be personal opinion, because I can't seem to find the references I was going to bring up about sexuality in women.

Really, I'm a girl and I feel that most yaoi fangirls are just as perverted as their male counterparts. Yaoi has become such a huge thing at cons and it's rare that you go even one hour without seeing some fangirl with a "I <3 Yaoi" sign, or a "Male X Male 4EVAH" sign while walking during a con. As a former yaoi fangirl back in high school, I can relate to them... but that same experience also tells me that yaoi fangirls are kind of... no offense, immature. The majority of yaoi is poorly conceived and written (as are most hentai doujins), and the characters are often horribly out of character. Just because a character is gay doesn't automatically make him an annoying, "always has to be saved" sissy. :angry: What do most girls even really know about gay sex or relationships? Heck, they barely know anything about straight relationships if today's modern shoujo is any indication ("lol, he raped me so I'm gonna fall in love with him and start dating him!").

Yaoi is not unaccepted because of homophobia. I definitely don't fit your standard definition of a homophobe (I support gay marriage, have gay friends, etc.), but as a woman.. I just really don't feel arousel while watching actual gay porn. Like with two real men. Yaoi is OK because usually neither character actually looks like a man. They are drawn to be aesthetically pleasing, and are usually fairly feminine.

As for the "girls spend money on tasteful porn while guys are cheap and downoad free hardcore smut"... I'm a girl and I download hardcore smut all the time. :P I wouldn't call the doujins especially high quality, or worthy of me spending $20+ on them. I own one Harry Potter doujin (the dealer lied and said it was 18+.. but it actually had no nudity whatsoever) and I bought it during the height of my yaoi fangirl days. I really wanted to own one and be able to look at it whenever. I think it might have just been part of the whole "hee hee, this is so naughty" phase I was going through.. which might have been part of the yaoi obsession in the first place. Anyway, I haven't looked at the doujin in years. I still read some (well-written IMH) yaoi fanfiction, but it seems like they are few and far between.


I think it's ok to like Yaoi as long as you don't overdo it and force it on the rest of us. Personally I don't mind yaoi, but I really like Yuri, too! Yuri is so underrepresented at cons. There is always like 5 yaoi panels, and then MAYBE one for yuri. Some of the really great series in anime and manga were yuri (or semi-yuri), like Riyoko Ikeda's Rose of Versailles, Brother Dear Brother, Claudine, and of course more modern stuff like Revolutionary Girl Utena.


Whew, that was a lot. I didn't mean to insult anyone who likes yaoi, but just.. keep in mind how your actions affect others at cons. And viva la Yuri!

Haha, that's definitely true.

But to me it just seems to me like yaoi fanfic in general usually involves more OOCness than your average fic. Unfailingly at least one of the male characters gets turned really really girly, even if they were really macho in the show. I could get behind... for example let's say a Goku X Vegeta fic, if both characters are still as macho as they are in the manga and it isn't too lovey-dovy. The Prince of All Saiyans does not do Valentine's Day, dammit!
