My old signature was an excerpt from that book.
The pink haired girl was quoting Full Metal Jacket...
"Holy dog shit! Only steers and queers come from Texas! And you don't look much like a steer to me, so that kind of narrows it down..."

What in the world are they teaching those students. yeesh!
smokie - February 20, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
They are teaching them practical English. Its probably more of a gag thing used to get the students more interested. Come on you know you love learning other languages dirty words what makes you think the Japanese are any different?
crknight29 - February 20, 2007 04:59 PM (GMT)
so true...i can curse in like 12 languages.

I'm on the same page as you guys. I have no idea what the book is called. I just found a scan on some website and I thought it was hilarious... Though I do remember the site I got it from not knowing it's origin either.
Haha. Oh well.
Edit:
I did some quick searching and found it. I'm guessing it's called "Maritan," at least that's what this
ytmnd's citation says.
Okay, here's Maritan's site...

Yes, Maritan, Moetan's evil twin:
"You maggots are huffing and puffing the way your momma did the first time your dad put the meat to her!"
I'll hunt through my discs for the books and upload them to Radio Free Armageddia when I find them.
Edit: Here it is, with the accompanying Listening CD. Share and enjoy... and be sure to Support our Troops!

Yay! Caring is sharing...
Oh wow, so every single English lesson is from Full Metal Jacket. I wish they had "You're so ugly you'd make a modern art masterpiece."
But that isn't crude enough, I guess.

I agree with your sentiments on modern art.
Lothlin - February 21, 2007 07:47 PM (GMT)
Is that sarcasm I detect? XD
(Though, seriously, as an art student, as far as Japanese modern art goes, I must say that I am a huge fan of the Superflat style. Ahaha, I'm warped.)

*Looks over at avatar icon...*
I guess that icon is blessing this forum right now ;).
I'm seconding the recommendation on superflat (Japanese Pop-Art) which is frequently heavily influenced by anime/manga... though definitions are kind of fuzzy. Some anime/manga has a superflat vibe to it too (Murakami superflat exhibitions have had stuff from Evangelion, Studio 4C shorts, comics from the creator of Milk Closet, etc.)
One could even argue that manga/anime is part of japanese contemporary art... :P
