Title: Final Fantasy XII
Description: No topic? Eh?

I was kinda suprised there isen't a topic for this yet.. but whatever. Post what you like or hate about this game!

One thing I dislike.. Is that I'm already like.. 4 hours into the game.. and I'm level 8.. Leveling is very slow in this game.. And the final boss is only level 45..
Another.. is the way you get gil in this game.. It is very hard in the beginning, and it is rare for you to have more then 600 at any given time. Potions are 100 gil. Phoenix downs are 250. Even the basic armor is 300. Half the time I barely have enough cash to get potions and phoenix downs, let alone new armor and weapons.
Also.. What's up with the license system? Enemies only give 1 license point.. Later in the game licenses start costing 150 LP. That means to get a single upgrade you have to kill 150 enemies. Is it just me or is that a bit extreme?
On the plus side, I like the battle system. It's fun and you have to think on your feet without it being turn based and all. Also, the graphics are amazing. There are a few spots that tickme off, but thats just because i look at like, every deail and facial expression, to someone playing normally these few things are not noticeable. And I like the hunts. They are fun, and just about the only good way to make gil in the game.

As far as gold goes, are you selling everything (and are you successfully stealing from every enemy you fight)? Watch how much stuff goes for, some of it is worth MUCH MORE and you can go farm on the enemies that drops those items.
Plus, killing enemies is a lot faster than most other itinerations of FF-games, so it's a lot easier to kill masses in a short amount of time. That 150 LP doesn't seem like that much when you're hoofing it between areas and killing absolutely everything (plus, there are some enemies that will give 2 or more.)
If you're having trouble with potions/phoenix downs, get all your characters up to white magic 3, I think it is, and give them the magic charge skill (or whatever it's called, I can't remember it off the top of my head.) And, get their quickenings ASAP so you get the mana boost; eventually, I got to the point where I only had to use stuff like that against bosses, where my mana was needed elsewhere (Like condition removal x.x)
Also, chains are AMAZING, especially when you're farming, because eventually the enemies will start dropping potions/phoenix downs in addition to their normal drops. Most of my phoenix downs I just pick up instead of buying.
I've kind of put it down for a while in favor of beating Twilight Princess, but I quite enjoy the game. The new battle system is EXCELLENT and the gambits make me squee a little because I can toy with the trees and tweak everything to my liking.
I actually like how the license board is set up, it's leaps and bounds better than the sphere grid in 10; you can actually choose what to do with the characters, instead of ending up with a useless jack-of-all trades like Kimahri was for me, or a caster that can't caste her highest spells because I couldn't find the bloody level 4 and 5 sphere keys. >< The license board allows for a lot of customization.
And I agree. The graphics are TOP NOTCH. I almost wish there were more FMVs though, I'm a bit of an FMV whore and the sparing use of them in cutscenes (except for sweeping scenery shots, most of the times,) make me a little sad. The graphics are so good, though, that it's not a huge deal.

You still can't deny that the leveling is slow though. I mean, on the 4th-5th boss you're at level what? 10? If you train for about an hour?
Lothlin - February 3, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
Leveling is relative, as far as I see it; if the last boss is lower, of course leveling is going to be slower.
...Mostly, I don't pay that much attention to it XD

I like the game...already 100 hours into it, getting all the side quests done, and noticing that the storyline lacks a little, but all-in-all a pretty good game. Graphics are A+. fighting is also great. Getting towards the end and the boss battles are taking a little longer than I'd like, but oh well, part of roleplaying.

I'm not far into FF12, but there's things I like and don't like about it.
Don't like:
-Story line taken right from Star Wars. It's pretty much an exact image.
-Since when do males have plastic abs?
-Why do they have to make all the characters in skimpy outfits that show so much skin? It really makes no sense.
-Leveling. It's so freakin hard to, especially when your stuck in an area.
-Fighting style. No random battles. It makes it really difficult to level.
Likes:
-Graphics are pretty amazing for the game system.
-It's a much, much better game then Dirge. That was Square-Enix's big mistake.
-The ost. It's one of my favorite's thus far from the FF series.
-Skypirates rule~!
Other then what I've said, over all FF12 is one of the better games in the series in my opinion. I just wish it wasn't so hard to level and some of the quests or sidequests are a little dumb in aspect to FF.

I've heard that Star Wars comparison before, but honestly, I don't see it. Or at least, not much beyond the basic 'hero's journey' template that pops up in stories all over the place, and has since long before George Lucas was a twinkle in his father's eye.
I'm not horridly far in though, yet, so maybe there's something that is more obvious that I haven't seen yet.

Well, I have noticed a ton of games doing the whole "star wars" scenerio, but leveling isn't that hard to do...just have to find the right place.
the side quests can be rather annoying and boring, and some you really don't need to do...but they do help in getting some good equipment that you can't find. Just wait til you get to Gilgamesh.

The way I see it, basically it comes down to this:
Vaan - Luke
Ashe - Leia
Balthier - Han
Fran - Chewie
And so forth from there. The thing is, Vaan is constantly helping or saving Ashe from the *Imperials* and the fact that she's a Princess who has lost "everything", yet she's currently working for the resistance group. Let alone, with all the characters, races, and such is pretty much taken right out of the Star Wars galaxy.

I can see that comparison Kala, I suppose. I'll probably have more of an opinion on the subject once I've beaten the whole thing (though, the Viera seem a lot more elf-like to me than they do wookie-like. Still, that's probably just all personal preference or viewpoint or whatever the heck you want to call it.)

When I first played my game my mom walked past, and saw a bangaa or whatever they are called on the screen, she stopped, stared at it for a minute... Then asked me why jarjar was in final fantasy. xD Also. Does anyone else hate the demon walls in raithwalls tomb? I use every single party members quickening and I can't even get it to half health. Pisses me off. Then if I DO beat it, I'd be weak as hell for the beginning of the fight with the second wall in the next room. xD
Lothlin - February 4, 2007 08:12 PM (GMT)
You can skip the first one; come back to it later, that's what I did.
For the second one, you can slow it down with the torches on the side, so it's a lot easier than the first.

Eh, I just left to tomb went back to the westersand and crossed all the way to the tomb again, by the time I got there everyone had their level 2 or 3 quickenings, so I just chained like, 11 hits and killed them both. xD

Eclipse Child - August 23, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
I got as far as Dr.Cid when you have to fight him and then I just gave up because I couldn't. I know I'll never beat that game. Something I hated was the way all the guys stomachs/abs looked stupid.

As for the skimpy costumes,I can understand why. They seem to live in a rather warm climate and really...what better excuse to put everyone in skimpy clothing. We all know Fran dresses that way BECAUSE SHE CAN. I am comfortable enough in my sexuality to say DAMN she's hot.
I'm sorry...Vaan seems really useless to me. I avoid using him when I can...He really annoys me but I end up having to use him when everyone else is like 6 levels higher.
As for the final boss being level 45...that just made my day. I'm halfway through the game and my highest character is at level 36 ^^ Go Ashe!
I'm a Star Wars fanatic myself but to be perfectly honest, the story has been around far longer. It's not really that original. At it's core you have the callow youth, The snarky eye candy (Yum! ^^), and the rebelling princess. It's a story as old as time and will be ripped off again and again and again.
I love the licensing...I love the battle system.......I love this game! It has sidequests, pretty graphics...And Balthier...what more could I want from a game?
