I might wear Advent Children Cloud. Considering the movie is in the genre of anime, but was based off the game, I probably won't.

There is no animation in Advent Children (but there is in Last Order!)

CGI is a type of animation, even though this movie is not considered typical "anime drawing," I've seen the movie categorized under anime before. I know there's debate about this, so to each their own opinions. No need to start a new war over it.

Someone correct me if I use the term incorrectly, but you're right CGI can be animation. In fact most anime is made on computers these days.

The difference though is that FF7AC was made with digital rendering, AKA they made 3d models and told them how to move, rather than using a computer to create a series of drawings. I used to think fans in general wouldn't make this distinction, but at several panels I've hosted when I asked the vast bulk of the people agreed that it wasn't anime.

As far as I'm concerned AC is not regarded as anime on a technical level, nor by popular opinion. As for what genre stores list it as, well... I've also seen Samurai Jack and Powerpuff girls listed as anime. Though, I guess none of these matter in the least, because in terms of elegibility for cosplay, it's the cons official position that FF7, while awesome, isn't anime.

I have a tifa, olette, kairi, yuffie and kinda an aerith costume. I REALLY love final fantasy. oh yeah and rikku, yuna and dagger. that would last me 2 conventions right thare if i wasn't pregnant, but for now 2 will have to do.

Depending on the driving situation and how many cars will be used, if I can fit my gunblade into a car, I will be going as Squall from FF8. Any other FF8 people going to be there? ;)

I was the Squall there on Saturday/Sunday (fem!squall at the rave), I'm not sure if you remember me. I also saw pictures of your Fran from another con my friend went to - you totally rock my socks!

Yeah, the ONLY anime rule... I just figured that they wouldn't judge game costumes for awards, but I doubt they're going to bar us from entering the con, period. I'm actually bringing a Guitar Hero costume also, so.. oops. But yeah! I would love to walk around with you! I haven't decided if I'm doing it Friday or Sunday yet, as Squall is super easy to drive hours in. Let me know if you decide to bring your FF stuff!

What she means is that she wants to see a good Squall, but this would not be a good con for it because AP has an anime only cosplay rule.

No, we won't ban you from the con for having a video game cosplay, but we beg of you to strongly consider anime ones for the sake of the anime fans who come to anime punch because it's an anime only convention.
It's the polite thing to do.

Ok, well, I really didn't want to start anything on these boards. I know that the front page says it is an 'anime only convention - not an anything remotely Japanese plus online craze convention,' but really, are you going to ban ALL video game cosplay? I mean, honestly, at every anime convention, I see Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts cosplayers. Are you going to go through all the threads talking about Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and/or any other video games and flat out tell them they shouldn't do that? I recognize what you're trying to do, and it's not like I'm going to be "polluting" the masquerade or any other cosplay contest pool with my video game costume.

Also, with how the con is being advertised as a really fun convention, where the con-goers are as much a part of the convention as the staff is, I just feel that this is a bit... oppressive. I mean, I didn't really see anywhere in giant bold type that video game costumes were strictly frowned upon, just that they wouldn't really be judge in the masquerade or any other types of cosplay contests. I accept that, which is why I don't plan on entering any of those types of contests. If this convention is so much about the enjoyment of everyone who attends, should people be allowed to cosplay characters from video games? I'm sorry if you feel that I'm ignoring the heartfelt requests of the staffers; that's not my intention. Honestly, though, I just don't see people getting offended if they see a video game cosplay. Also, you are the first staffer to directly request that I DON'T bring any video game costumes at all. This is not an invitation for all the other staffers to jump on my back and request that I don't either; I'm merely saying.

Yeah, if you read around on the boards this comes up a lot, and most of your points have already been addressed somewhere.

The short answer is "Yes: That's what we're trying to do."
And yes, it does seem a little oppresive, but it's not like we have any other rules, so I think one is ok. Also, it's not even a rule, it's just a strong request.

Aside from promoting an anime-only atmosphere, with the overpopulation of convetions in Ohio, it's a necessary step to help diversify the local con scene, and help the conventions differentiate from each other.

I know it's sort of a pain in the ass if you've only ever cosplayed from video games, but there are a lot of great anime costumes out there, and if you can, look at this as an opportunity to explore new ground! It's funny how much more creative you can get when you limit your options, and much like a painter who decides to only use shades of blue, I hope that cosplayers who have stuck to popular and over-done cosplays like FF stuff or KH will expand to more unique anime cosplays. (And if not, there are always plenty of Soul Reapers and Ninja ^_^)

You know, seriously. I wasn't looking to start an argument (see my previous post). It was an honest, thought out post that I made. It wasn't an "ZOMG no he didn't! Oh noes!" kind of a post. But honestly. So much for anime people being friendly.

Okay, how about this? If you guys feel like attacking me, go right the heck ahead. That's perfectly fine, because in the end, there are still going to be video game cosplayers, regardless of whether or not they are me. I'm sorry if that happens, but I don't appreciate when people are just chomping at the bit to harass me. I expressed my opinion, not wanting to start a fight, and it wasn't like I was saying, "IN YOUR FACE STAFFERS!! I'm going to deliberately cosplay video game characters! Let the people who want to harass me begin!" Seriously, folks. It's not like I care so much if video game cosplay is "frowned upon," but if this is how some of the people at the convention are going to be... well, let's just say it's really too bad I can't get my money back. I'm not looking forward to this convention nearly as much as I was before I decided to check out the forums.
