Title: Help/ideas for a cosplay character
Megan4283 - January 9, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
I really want to cosplay at AP this year but I have absolutely no idea who to be. Who would you like to see? Or what's a character that wouldn't cost TOO much to make that still looks good(I don't have much money to work with). Please no skimpy outfits that show off your body and whatnot. I'm not exactly skinny lol. I'd really like some help.
Lothlin - January 9, 2007 01:00 AM (GMT)
Hrm. Well, do you have a picture of yourself? A lot of the price in simpler costume tends to be the wig, in my opinion, so if we could find a character that you wouldn't have to do much to the hair for, it would make things simpler.
Also, what kinds of stuff do you like? Anime wise; I'm assuming you're a girl, do you mind crossplay?

I would put a picture of myself up but my computer wont let me. It sucks. I don't plan on buying a wig. (My hair is shoulder length, dark brown. But I'd be willing to dye it.) I wouldn't mind crossplaying, but I'd prefer to be a girl. I'm looking for any character. I don't know lol. I like pretty much any anime.

Girl outfits are cooler anyhow.
Do you have anything in a photobucket you could link us to?

Sorry I don't have any pictures.
Lothlin - January 9, 2007 01:32 AM (GMT)
Fair enough! Shoulder length and dark brown should be easy enough, do you have bangs? And, is your hair wavy straight, layered... though, most of that is easy enough to fix with a blowdry and hairspray XD
I dunno, I tend to think a lot of guy's outfits look pretty damn good. But eh, I'll do either really XD
There's
Haruhi Suzumiya, Schoolgirl outfits are easy enough to do and skirts aren't that hard to make longer.
Haruhi Fujioka, from Ouran High School, is another possibility; there's flashback where she has longer hair, I could screencap them if you want references, and there's one point where she wears a dress that is absolutely adorable. Actually, several.
*ponders* I'll try to think of some more.

Thank you much ^___^ My hair is naturally extremely straight. And I do have bangs.
Edit: Hm...Haruhi from Ouran High School usually has short hair and I really don't want to cut my hair or buy a wig. And I'm not sure if I want to go for the school girl look either...
Lothlin - January 9, 2007 01:48 AM (GMT)
Haruhi has longer hair in flashbacks ;p. Give me a few and I'll get some screenshots.

[blatant lie]not to be annoying trying to drive this point in or anything [/blatant lie] but having a picture would really help since it will allow us to find characters that would work with you

I'd love to show you a picture of me to help you but as I already said I can't. My computer doesn't want to work with my camera and I don't have any recent photos of me. So I'm sorry.
Lilith's Dark Shadow - January 9, 2007 01:57 AM (GMT)
well, if you'd describe the issue its having i might be able to help or know of someone who can help.

Alright..I install the program so I can put pictures on my computer. Then when I click on it a popup comes up saying "this program has performed an illegal operation and will be closed" or something close to that.
Lothlin - January 9, 2007 02:03 AM (GMT)
...o.O what program? And what kind of camera do you have? For a lot of digicams, the computer really tends to just treat it like it's another memory device and either pull the software needed OFF of the camera, or well.. you can just pull the pictures right off.
That sounds odd.

Eerm...I have a Nikon? And the program is PictureProject 1.6
Lilith's Dark Shadow - January 9, 2007 02:08 AM (GMT)
and it'd also help to know what operating system you're running

What do you mean operating system?
Lilith's Dark Shadow - January 9, 2007 02:18 AM (GMT)
as in windows xp and whatnot

Oh, sorry. Windows 98
Lilith's Dark Shadow - January 9, 2007 02:24 AM (GMT)
and that would be why it doesn't work. PictureProject 1.6 isn't compatible with windows 98. Give me a moment and i'll see if i can find anyting that will work.

Thank you.
Lilith's Dark Shadow - January 9, 2007 02:25 AM (GMT)
but before i can do that i have to know what kind of Nikon you have
Lothlin - January 9, 2007 02:26 AM (GMT)
Megan4283 - January 9, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
Lol okay thanks
Edit: I don't like really showing my arms..I'm sorry if this is a lot of trouble for you. Maybe something that's not so girly but is still girly at the same time...? ^^;; Know what I mean? Like a tomboyish character might wear but it would still be feminine. And more of a crazy outfit an anime character would wear, not an average person?

Lol um I don't really know...All I can think of is to look on the camera itself. It says Nikon coolpix L4?
Lilith's Dark Shadow - January 9, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
took me a wee bit of minor digging, but i believe i've nabbed some software that will work just fine on windows 98 and get along with your Nikon coolpix camera.
http://www.lightner.net/lightner/bruce/photopc/go to the above link and download photopc.exe and install that. It should work just fine, if you have any more problems just say and i'll see what i can turn up.

Megan4283 - January 9, 2007 03:24 AM (GMT)
Didn't work...oh well I guess.
Lilith's Dark Shadow - January 9, 2007 03:27 AM (GMT)

You don't have to. I can do it at my aunt or brother's house.
Kaisermikeb - January 9, 2007 03:33 AM (GMT)
If you're running Windows XP it should just treat the camera like a new storage device and let you pull from it directly. If you're not running winXP, go to a library or somewhere that does.

Alright. Thanks for helping with my camera. Do you have any cosplay ideas for me? XP
Kaisermikeb - January 9, 2007 03:52 AM (GMT)
Not at the moment. Tomorrow use a school computer (if you're young) or a library one (if you're old) and get us some photos!
Once you do I'll have some pretty cool suggestions for you I'm sure.

Aw man, alright.
This is not Biggs - January 9, 2007 05:37 AM (GMT)
Tomo, Kagura, and Kaorin from Azumanga Diaoh! all have chin-lengthed, brown hair. And their winter uniforms are long-sleeved.
Hmm... I can't think of anymore right now. Pretty pathetic.
IronSandwich - January 9, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
there's one choice you need to make first...
anime cosplay rule #1. you must cosplay as a character that does NOT fit your body type
once you choose to follow it or not, it'll make it a bit easier
hence, from there on out, you'll be halfway to your goal.......
Megan4283 - January 9, 2007 08:58 PM (GMT)
This is not Biggs- Thanks for the suggestions. I don't really want to go for the schoolgirl look though. (and I don't care if an outfit has sleeves, I just don't want it to be sleeveless)
IronSandwich- I guess I'm not going to follow that rule? I don't want something that's too revealing cause I'm not really all that skinny.

This is what she looks like, as of the 10th of January, 2007:

(I just thought I looked funny...so I blocked my face.)
And again:
Kaisermikeb - January 11, 2007 12:10 AM (GMT)
How about that evil woman from XXXHolic?
Lothlin - January 11, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
You mean Yuuko? Her outfits tend to be crazy complicated and well, seem like they would cost a LOT of money unless you happened to get really lucky at a discount fabric store. Up to you though, of course.
A problem I'm seeing is a LOT of anime characters have bangs x.x. I've run into that problem myself in trying to find costumes that don't require wigs.
maybe...
Isae Nanaoe, from Bleach? her hair is pulled up so it'd be easy to fiddle with how the length looks.
Or... maybe
Sloth, from the Fullmetal Alchemist anime? Scroll down, and
here's a chibi that shows her dress. I can't, unfortunately, get screenshots of that for you, but pictures should be easy enough.
I'll try to think up some more later
Megan4283 - January 12, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
Maybe I could just cosplay as yuki from master of mosquiton again? >__>;; And thanks for putting the pictures up alyssa. I look really bad in the top picture though..
