Title: Music you're afraid to admit you like
Kag-ST - December 20, 2006 08:39 PM (GMT)
As I Lay Dying
Being a true metalhead, I should hate this band like I hate Trivium, but I cant. And I don't know why.
John Mayor.....
He puts on one of the best live shows Ive ever seen.
Now It's your turn.
Yuffie - December 20, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
Some Linken Park
some Evanscence.
This is not Biggs - December 20, 2006 10:37 PM (GMT)
I like Madonna, Cher, and some Britney Spears.
I'm hoping Britney will make her comeback... At this rate, though-- not likely.
rpb3000 - December 21, 2006 02:56 AM (GMT)
Spice Girls, Ace of Bass, ABBA, Muse, My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights, Hanson, Yellowcard, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Blink-182, Vitamin C, Sarina Paris, ATC, Enya, some Britney Spears, some random others (including a lot of rap and some country).
Bands that people have told me that I shouldn't like but I couldn't care less and proudly show my fandom for include the following:
Linkin Park, Green Day, Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, t.A.T.u., some random others (including a lot of techno).
Kag-ST - December 21, 2006 02:59 AM (GMT)
I like some of the rappers on Linkin Parks ReAnimation album.
Lothlin - December 21, 2006 03:01 AM (GMT)
I'm curious, why are you afraid to admit you like Muse?
Anyway... bands I SHOULD be afraid to admit, but I'm not, because I couldn't fucking care less...
My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, Fallout Boy, Sum 41, Blink 182.... I guess, like, Green Day and AFI and Muse and such should probably be put here, but personally, I think they rock XD
Kaisermikeb - December 21, 2006 03:18 AM (GMT)
There is no shame in liking Greenday, Dookie was one of the best albums of the 90's! I am, however, ashamed to admit that I like American Idiot.
John, there is a difference between admitting to liking one or two lame pop bands that you know are fundamentally bad, and proudly and adamently liking all of them. It's called general taste in music!
Lothlin - December 21, 2006 03:39 AM (GMT)
Oh I definately agree, and I'm not ashamed at all to like Green Day. Ashamed to admit I sing along with most of their records at the top of my lungs when I'm driving around? Ahhh.. maybe a little ;p
I've just seen people go on about how 'non punk' they are, and that they're sellouts, that kind of bullshit. AFI too. *shrugs* Some people just can't get over a band they like actually getting popular and making money.
Kaisermikeb - December 21, 2006 03:45 AM (GMT)
They were always popular, that's not the issue. I think it's more that they've started having "an image" wearing makeup and outfits and parading around like a bunch of fags. I think that's the big issue.

MTV sucks AFI's tiny little dick on a regular basis.

My general taste in music is hard to describe. I listen to more angry punk, heavy metal, dark techno and the like when I'm feeling crappy, and to more happy hardcore, pop-punk, and poppy stuff when I'm feeling alright. When I'm just chilling trancey and ambient styles tend to dominate my song choice.
My iTunes library has 5,980 songs (27 and a half gigs of music). There is probably plenty of things on there that'd you'd find awesome, as well as plenty that you'd want to slap me for having. I really do listen to almost everything.
The most general statements I can make about my choice in music is that techno and punk are my favorite genres, and country and "r&b" are my least favorite. I tend to like faster things better, and also more complicated soundscapes, but neither of those is a requirement for a good song.

I was going to comment, then my troll-dar went off. Have a cat!
rikku7504 - December 24, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
AFI isn't that bad I just bought their cd yesterday
Miccy - December 28, 2006 08:16 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure if I'm afraid to admit to what I like.
o_o;;
If someone asks me if I like something, and I like it, I tell them.
It puzzles me, because now I want to know what I'm afraid to admit I like.
Alex - December 28, 2006 10:57 PM (GMT)
My guilty musical pleasures tend to dwell in the late 90's, like Hanson and Spice Girls. The music of my youth. That six-month period during fourth grade when I listened to nothing but country. *cringe*
Yuffie - December 28, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
Eh, I'm quite fond of country. Although that always tends to be a genre I'm afraid to admit I like(especially since it's becoming the new pop. Wreckers, get the hell out of that genre. Carrie, you seem to have gotten it, but any more of "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Don't Forget to Remember Me", and I want you following right behind them.)
I don't think there is a way to really answer that question Miccy. What people consider horrific to like differs with people. Where I'd be bothered by Nickelback, someone else would think you were cool for listening to it.
It's interesting though, how what type you should be ashamed to like changes where you're at.
Miccy - December 29, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
Okay, I see--I rarely admit to liking some Country songs. Its only 90's country though, the stuff I grew up with, ya know?
People don't regularly know that, but I do.
If people ask, I'll tell them, but I don't mention it that much if I know it might offend someone, and thats why I don't talk about music.
Kaisermikeb - December 29, 2006 06:49 AM (GMT)
It should be noted that you fought angrily to play country in Jons car that one time...
Should I be ashamed to admit I like Sound Garden?
Yuffie - December 29, 2006 12:58 PM (GMT)
90's had some of the best stuff, I think of the style then as a subcatogory of country... I'm always happy when something comes out in that style.

Haha, Mike, that was BAD country!
I wouldn't even listen to what was playing.
Its more of songs from my childhood that I like, like Shaina Twain, or Toby Keith, etc. I was really big into the Dixie Chicks. Haha.
If it came on the radio, I probably wouldn't change it, but I couldn't choose to have it.

I love a lot of 90's music, I just can't ever remember who sings it, or what its called. I mean, Lyrics I remember, its just hard for me to remember the artist, and the song title.

Most everything. There are very few bands I don't like.
I'll name one though: Dethklok from the show Metalokalypse.

Why?
Mark Amott and Jeff Loomis do guitar work on those songs, making it pretty darn badass.
(even if Jeff Loomis's band sucks)

Because they have kick-ass guitar that's realyl fun to play. It's actually pretty solid metal.
Kaisermikeb - January 9, 2007 12:51 AM (GMT)
He's asking why you're ashamed to admit it. You have to read the WHOLE post before you respond to it.
Miccy - January 9, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
I can see why people would be ashamed to say what they do like.
People are such music bashers, seriously.
I mean, I don't realize it sometimes, but I do it too, but not intentionally.
I try not to be, because I like most things, but usually, if its not something completely lame, and I know the song, I'll usually be like, "Cool."
I usually only say something about a certain Genre, if someone brings it to the table, and then I will.
Since usually when I meet people, I'm not sure on their opinions, so I try not to shove mine down their throat. xD
I hate when people do that.
And when people are specifically like, "THIS IS THE ONLY KIND OF MUSIC I LISTEN TO!"
Do we have any of those here?
That only listen to a certain Genre of music? O_o;;

Fo'serious.
But really?
sniper - January 9, 2007 03:58 PM (GMT)
I'm not afraid to admit I like Dethklok because it rules (though it's a cartoon band, which is a little weird to like), but I said I like everything. I like Metallica and Megadeth, and I also like Simon & Garfunkel and Peter, Paul, and Mary. That includes bands a lot of people doon't like. For example, Linkin Park, Green Day, Gorillaz, The Foo Fighters, and Weezer.
Kag-ST - January 9, 2007 08:23 PM (GMT)
Its impossible to like EVERYTHING.
Kag-ST - January 9, 2007 08:26 PM (GMT)
Im afraid to admit I like some world music.

I agree.
Impossible to like everything.
I don't even like everything.
Believe me, more songs than people realize annoy me.
But its not the genre that annoys me. x3
sniper - January 9, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
I like every genre, but not every song. Most gangster rap I don't like, but I do like a little of every genre.
