Title: Ikasu Con Moving?
kalajessta - December 8, 2006 11:55 PM (GMT)
What do you guys think about Ikasu Con moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana next year?
Miccy - December 9, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
Not sure.
But I guess since they're moving, I'm not sure I'm going.
It wasn't as good last year as years before.
I remember when the site went down I heard a rumor from a friend about it moving, but I wasn't quite sure about it.
They didn't mention anything about it on their updates, and gave no explanation about the forums, and I was so confused.
Anyway, I don't mind it. Its just another con, that happens to be moving to Indi.
[edit: Viewing this topic made me go check the fourms, so now I'm updated. ]

Eh, you can see my thoughts on their forums. If it works for them, good for them. I don't care either way.

What...? It's moving? To INDIANA?
Well, I guess I won't be going. (shrug)
Edit: I went over to check to see what was said on the forums and it's pretty funny. Almost everyone's upset about the news and some people are mad because of people getting upset. What do you expect? I find it unlikely that the majority would be open to the move. I hope they'll at least get people from Illinois and Indiana to replace all the Ohioans and Kentuckians who are going to bail.
Lexington, KY, needs an anime convention... The convention center is right down the street from my apartment. We had Botcon this year... it was hilarious seeing people walking down my street with transformer tattoos on their forehead.
kalajessta - December 9, 2006 05:07 AM (GMT)
I wasn't planning on going back to Ikasu as it was. I had such a horrid experience this year and such a crappy time at the con. I think that the move will loose alot of the con-goers as it is since many can't travel far to cons. So we'll see if they'll go bankrupt or not.
Miccy - December 9, 2006 02:12 PM (GMT)
I read what everyone had to say.

I mean, Indiana doesn't really have any cons, and I mean, they could use one more than anyone, but how about the majority of people that arn't that into Cons? KNow about them?
I read through the topic on the Ikasu boards, and well, there was one girl who was exremely excited about it.
Its still three hours from me.
THey should move to Ashland. We have mass anime fans here. [Small town, but huge anime fans] And we have a huge Holiday Inn Express. Lmao. And We're three hours from Cinci.
Kidding, kidding.
I probably can't go, and I'll have to remotely agree about Ikasu not being as great as it used to.

Ashland -> Ft. Wayne
Total Est. Time: 2 hours, 56 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 174.56 miles
Ashland -> Cincinnati
Total Est. Time: 2 hours, 59 minutes
Total Est. Distance: 183.42 miles
They're pretty much the same distance from you, Miccy. I think a lot of people don't realize just how close Ft. Wayne is. On the Ikasucon forums they've made it seem like they've moved to Chicago or something. *shrug*
kalajessta - December 11, 2006 07:36 AM (GMT)
But Chicago is an awesome city.

I know its not far, silly!
I just don't travel that far west, and if I do--its not far.
Mishikotoko - December 11, 2006 02:36 PM (GMT)
Not going to Ikasucon, sorry it'll be way too far of a drive for me to handle for a convention this comming year.
I don't feel like driving 12 hours, 29 minutes/758.21 miles just one way...lol
I will stick to the Ohio conventions, VA, MD, and Washington D.C ones.
Kaisermikeb - December 11, 2006 05:06 PM (GMT)
Cincinnati -> Cincinnati: 0 hours, 0 miles.
Cincinnati -> Ft. Wayne: >0 hours, >0 miles.
Nearly everyone on that forum is from Cincinnati. I think they are justified in thinking that Ft. Wayne is far away from them. They've gone from the convention being 15 minutes away to being over 4 hours away. Not to mention that everyone who goes to Ikasu is a teenager anyhow, and probably need someone to drive them.
And since Jon is going to be a little bitch, and post the exact distances if I don't, it's 4hours 20minutes and 188 miles away. It takes me about 5 hours 30 minutes to get to Chicago, barely an hours difference, so yeah... it kind of IS like driving to Chicago for Cincinnatians.

:-P
From that standpoint, I can see their concern. At least they've still got Sugoi, but apparently a lot of them seem to hate that con for whatever reason. I've never been particularly "for" the move, more indifferent. I still think there are too many cons around, and it seems more keep springing up every year. I just don't think there are enough fans around to support all of them. I'd rather see everyone go to one awesome con then people be split up going to various mediocre cons. So from the perspective of con density, the move was possibly a good thing. From the perspective of the con's history and fanbase, it probably wasn't a good thing. *shrug*
Kaisermikeb - December 12, 2006 12:53 AM (GMT)
Sugoi 2002 was either the best, or the second best (depending on how you rank it against APII) con the state ever saw, and sugoi 2006 was as good if not better than it.
The people who don't like sugoi are fools! (Or are just caught up on sugoi 2004, which was about as much fun as this years Ikasu)
kalajessta - December 12, 2006 04:23 AM (GMT)
I agree. For people who don't like Sugoi are. I've been going to Sugoi for the past 4 years now. Sugoi is a pretty good con. It had it's up and downs this year, but partly it was because of the hotel and the hotel staff.
Lothlin - December 12, 2006 03:13 PM (GMT)
Sugoi <333 Not that I have much reference, since so far, Sugoi is the only con I've attended (;_;), but still. I love it.

EnishiYukishirolover - December 13, 2006 03:37 PM (GMT)
I guess I'm lucky that I don't live very far from most conventions. I only live an hour from all Columbus cons, an hour and fifteen from Sugoi, and only two hours and fourty-seven minutes with 156 miles from Ikasucon now. And seven hours away from Otakcon.
Vincent: _-_ who says you won't ever go to them either?
Vincent - December 13, 2006 08:25 PM (GMT)
No one. xD I'm just saying I never have been to either con.
