y did they hire a girl to play tripitaka? iv seen most of series one but only ep 1 of series too, does pigsy 2 get any better? he dosnt seem as sleazy or funny!

Funky_monkey - April 15, 2006 06:06 AM (GMT)
punku, i suggest you repeat year 7 spelling. i dont beleive girl is spelt g-r-l and i dont actually think someone is spelt s-u-m-1.

punku has a good pint though. we know he is a BOY preist but wouldnt you expect his voice to break or to get some pubes and facial har... eventually. and four blokes. i mean something kinda gay is gonna happen eventually. Man its no wonder Tripi is sop tense he (or she) never gets a chance to releave her-himself. and what if pigsy got absolutly smashed, he could easily mistake Tripi for a woman. FOR CHRISTS SAKE HE IS A WOMAN!!!

Apparently, the real Tripitaka who went to India to collect the Buddhist scriptures was said to have been a very good looking monk (don't laugh!) and that his looks were akin to the beauty of a woman (hence female Masako Natsume plays him). After "Monkey" was aired, everyone got the impression that Tripikata has to be played by a (pretty) girl. So Tripitaka is played by one in all the remakes of "Monkey"!

yeah whatever

I'm very glad Masako played Tripitaka. She was beautiful, and played the part excellently. I was fooled enough to beleive she was a boy preist as a kid, though my mother was not, and always refered to trip as a girl, which was confusing in many ways ;)

I believe the Japanese mixed the sex of the characters up a bit in the series. The real Tripetaka was indeed a man, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xuanzang but played by a women. Guan Yin, the goddess of mercy is a woman but was played by a man in the series. Buddha is a man but was portray as a woman.

Can't remember what episode it is, but Monkey actually pays out on Buddha saying 'He can't even make up his mind whether he's a boy or a girl' or something along the lines of that...............well I thought it was funny anyway..................ok............I'll go now................

I think using a female actor for Tripitaka was a good idea- i suposse it had reason, like the tradition of Peter pan always played by a girl- but in the tv show, it was an extra element for me as an audience; a little more interesting to watch, as opposed to four blokes marching to india; it was a little curiosity that kept me interested in the show and in the development of the characters and their relationships to eachother. as for the great gay agenda, i think its nice for males to get along without having to worry about homosexuality and then homophobia; the relationships are asexual, even with pigsy's cavorting, and are all treated innocently. i love to see relationships in childrens programs that do not avoid such topics in fear of being politically correct. in my opinion, they give children more credit and more appreciation of loving relationships, and they are not made to feel awkward or guilty about them.

so you liked the fact that tripi was a girl so that you could have a fap over one of your favoutite tv stars?
