as i was discussing in the 'favourite character' thread, i prefer the 1st pigsy. maby thats because ive watched more episodes from the first season and find it hard to let go of the fact that pigsys changed.

I used to like the 2nd Pigsy best (I had only seen a few 1st series episodes), but now I've seen most of the 1stseries, I'm not sure.
I think I like the 1st Pigsy's mannarisms better, but there are some classic 2nd Pigsy moments too!

i so totaly agree wiv whoever sed the first pigsy was waaaaaaaaaaaaay betr. i mean no offence to pigsy numbr2 but pigsy numbr 1 was way funnier, he was such a sleaze. remember wen tripitaka turned into a girl and pigsy tried to.... i luv pigsy 1!

yeah, i always liked the first pigsy better, from my very first introduction to the show when i was growing up, his manerisims and looks, and behaviour where so much better, even if the english voice was the same, the actor had a greater range of visual skill, but ah well it still had maasaki saaki playing monkey all the way through, and that was the most important bit :D

heck i even became a christian for a year, so i could pray to god to give me all of monkey's abilities including cloud flying! :lol:

by the way, funky_monkey and I are actually good friends, believe it or not! we regulary have monkey movie marathons together and critically evaluate all the modern discources reflected in certain monkey episodes. so, to anyone out there who think were constantly fighting (gekoman) we are actually, in real life, good mates.

and i do apologise to anyone (including funky_monkey) if i did offend in any way!

Uh, yeah I always preferred Toshiyuki over Tonpei. He just had the better range of facial expressions. Tonpei looked more piglike, which I thought was amusing that his second incarnation was supposed to be that he was becoming more human :lol:

I used to have a definite preference for the 1st Pigsy, but strangely, as time has gone on (and I've watched more of the second series), I've been able to shed the shackles of "Pigsy Bias" and recognise the unique merits of both Pigsys. Certainly, the 1st Pigsy is more recognisable for his blatent womanising and amusing mannerisms, but the 2nd Pigsy is somehow "cute" and seems to have an equally funny (and sometimes touching) relationship with the others in the party.

So, in conclusion, I really can't pick a favourite now :). But it's actually quite liberating, because in the days when I preferred the 1st Pigsy, I couldn't really watch any of the 2nd series episodes properly, because I was fixated on my dislike of Pigsy #2. Now I can watch all episodes with equal enjoyment :D

The original is definatly more 'piggish', if you see what I mean (looks as well as character). I think my bias is shifting the more of the original I see.

at least they give an excuse for pigsy changing.

The original pigsy is not dead. He enjoys fishing and is quite a little celeb in japan, often appearing on the covers of fishing magazines.

I don't believe that Toshiyuki Nishida loves fishing or that he appears on the covers of fishing magazines... he does however play a character in a series of films called "A Diary of Crazy Fishing" where he plays a guy who's obsessed with fishing.
