Hi - found this on the www.popbitch.com messageboard today - has anyone heard of this:
New series of Monkey! being filmed in Australia
Original series star Masaaki Sakai is replaced by SMAP boyband member Shingo Katori. The series, titled Saiyûki will be shown by Fuji TV in Japan in January. Not sure about European release but I imagine it will be greatly anticipated.

Can't wait to see this if it gets dubbed, it'll be so ace (being a teenager at the moment, I don't have that nostalgia factor some of you have, so I'm all for a re-make)

The original can not be improved. It was great in its simplicity.

you know i think a saw an episode when i was in mallorca in august.
it had me scratching my head, but it was that boy band dude, and it had an american(or european) man as a main character.
it was dubbed in spanish, and it was terrible.
im sure it had a SMALLER budget than the original, pigsy actually looked like a pig, not man/pig but a dude with a pigs head, monkey had NO character to him at all.
if this was the new monkey, then this truly truly stank.
i hope i wasnt dreaming as it seems no one else in this thread has seen it?????
please confirm all????

i have not seen it but i think that someone who is going to play monkey should have some characture and some good energy about him...
like the guy who played monkey in the chinese show Journey to the west (i got my self hooked on that one)

i havent seen it!! i dont think you could catch the same humour on remakes.(but admittedly havent seen it). It sounds pretty suspect to me...this newie monkey!!
