Title: Spam

Samas - October 20, 2006 08:06 AM (GMT)
To everyone on the board (but mainly the mods)

If you havnt noticed as of yet, there has been alot of spam posted on this board recently, and i think we should put a stop to it.

To the mods: is it possible to perhaps ban these certain IP adresses from acessing this board? Or pehaps you could make the board private so you have to be logged in as an actually member to be able to post?

Any other ideas please post below

Thanks v much for your message. 'Fraid I don't get as much time to read / maintain the board as I'd like - so I just spot the occasional spam message and delete it from time to time.

I could make the board require that only logged-in users can post, but I'm concerned that this could also deter some people that maybe have some great Monkey news and just want to do a one-off posting..

I'll look into the IP address banning though - although I suspect the spammers may change their IP address every time.

In the meantime, if you spot some spam - please feel free to PM me and I'll nuke it as soon as I can.

I appreciate your help in keeping the board spam-free.

coolies, i understand about the people being detered by the locking thing, and i personaly prefer forums that you can look at without being a member, but this spamming is just so annoying!

and from now on i shall PM you if i see some spam. (there are currently three spam topics in general discussion by the way)

Thanks - I'll keep thinking about the posting policies... will keep it open to guests for the moment.

OK, I've just nuked those spam discussions in General Chat.

Btw - about reporting spam messages to me - I've just realised that a better way to do that (instead of PM'ing me) is to click the Report button on the offending post with a brief message (just write "spam") and I'll get an email with a direct link to the post and then just 2 clicks and it's gone when I read the email :D

Thanks again.

no funky_monkey, your alread a mod of some other crappy forum that is plunging into chaos as we speak... i think if we have too many mods, troble will prevail... (plus, this is still a relativly small notice board)

for your information samas i was hinting to saiyuuki that i wanted to be a mod  i was just making a suggestion. maybe it would be better to have a mod that frequents the board.

Thanks to everyone for reporting spam messages to me recently.

I've now updated the board so that only registered members can post! B)

for the better or the worse i wonder.

Good idea. Also, you might consider banning particular email adresses (is that possible?). It'd stop the advertisment robot things, unless they change those too.

Funky_monkey - November 2, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
you cant ban e-mail adresses.
