Oh come on DragonBall / z / gt the whole concept is taken off monkey, A monkeyboy, who rides on a cloud, has an extending staff, and has befriended a pig, and before dragonball there was 'dragonboy' a predecessor, of Dragonball where a young martial artist has to be a body guard to a princess while he takes he back to her kingdom of 'fruit and flowers' also in dragonball the lead character is 'Goku' and even more so, 'Son Goku'. Son Gokuu is the Japanese name for monkey.
I like Dragonball But he could've varied it a little more

well like many other things dragonball z has been based on folktale. which is what monkey is. read about it on

he made it like that on perpous I happen to like Akira Toriyama's work I love his art always have.
He wanted to base it off of Goku but yet make it his own in another way. And to let you know Goku use to look exactly like a monkey he was alittle monkey. Toriyama san however decided to change it.
and if you recall Master Roshi is the old man from the Mountain that monkey climed to learn devine powers and flight.
and there are ALOT and I mean ALOT of spoofs of Journey to The West so why attack Dragonball.
and ONLY in Dragonball was the story realy like Journey to The West. Afterwords however in Dragonball Z and beond that started forming in to a new story that was not realy like Journey to the west at all.
realy the story was transformed he only used the charactures and some simularitys

Wasn't it Kinto'un? which was also what Monkey called his cloud in the japanese version, if Im remembering right? which I may not be :)
