Title: The Combat Pit
DragonsLover - September 1, 2008 09:41 AM (GMT)
I can't understand people that love the Combat Pit instead of the Training room. I found this room very... VERY annoying. I'm sorry, but I don't like the micro management to do for this room by staying 80% of your time there healing your creatures during the fights and where once a little distraction occurs, they're knocked out and have a little chance of being killed if the imps didn't bring them back to their lairs, which is also annoying. I mean, why being knocked out? Why didn't they stop the fight when they saw that their friendly opponent is low on health instead? Once this occurs, then the badly damaged creatures could be teleported on the seat ring and go back to their lairs on their own or simply, they could stay in the Combat Pit, waiting for a Heal Spell to get fighting again or the hand of evil to took them out of there. It's kinda frustrating when you aim for a fighting creature and that it points the OTHER one, but damn, it's too late, it has been knocked out...
I disagree with people that says that Training Room is crap. I way enjoy most the Training Room because during the time they can train, you could place your doors and traps, watch for intruders, build rooms, do your stuff... With the Combat Pit, well, yeah, you can do the same, but the training won't be that long, including a little chance of losing your creatures. Not fun.
Fights are also quite long : you often have to wait whole paydays until they are level 8. Also, some creatures cause so much damages that you run out of mana by constantly healing them, even with mana vaults available.
Would you explain me HOW THE HELL do you love that room? Simply because the training is free and they attract Black Knights?
Mefistotelis - September 1, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
Fighting creatures COULD be fun, it just needs to be more automated than in DK2.
Maybe creatures who don't like each other should go together to the Combat Pit and solve their personal affairs there? And creatures definitely should be able to walk in and out; "xxx is angry because he was left in combat pit" is even more frustrating than the fact that your creatures may die.

because you maybe had only a few games online/lan.
i think that you play ONLY single, you dont need combat pit in single mode.
but i almost play ONLY online and you will not survive if you play without combat pit vs a good player. i know, there are enough noobs on multiplayer, when its not needed to use a combat pit, so i dont if i play vs newbies.

you dont need always to stay 80 % of your time on the pit. that depends on the creatures you are training:
if you train warlocks and elves you can stay there 1% of your time.
if you train bile demons, giants or maidens you can stay there between 20 and 50 % of your time.
for knights i stay about 60-70 %
only for dark angels, vamps and mistresses you have to spend 80 % or more of your time, because they kill each other rly fast.
when one creatures is knocked out, you have to drop an imp to bring it back, only fools wait until the imps come and take them back, because imps rarely do that.
you dont need to heal them always. you can do your things during they are fighting, just think about them when you are doing something else. after 10 secs drop some imps to the pit and go on with your work (whatever it is) when all the creatures are out of the pit, drop them in again and do your things. do always the same, drop some imps to the pit after 10 secs. thats not a problem.

lol, that would be just tooo easy. that would be the easiest way to get creatures to lvl 8 fast. to be honest its already now too easy to get them to lvl 8, even if you have to heal. BUT the most ppl are lazy and dont wont to heal 15 mins long, thats boring. this is why not all ppl have lvl 8 creatures, because of the lazyness. if creatures would not knock out and get transfered to the lair, there wouldnt be any lazyness anymore, because you dont need to heal anyone. the only job of the player would be to bring the creatures to the pit, nothing else, that would be just too easy. in 20 mins all would have lvl 8 armies, without working much for that.

the training room gives your more free time for building traps and rooms than combat pit - ok, but stronger creatures (what you get with combat pit) are much more important than free time for building traps or useless rooms.

lol, you as training room fan say this ?
in the time i get my creatures on lvl 8 in the pit, you get yours only to lvl 4 in your training room. lol and then you see who has better chances.
there are ways how to safe mana while training your creatures, maybe you use 3 time heal when i use it only 1 time.
you also can let other creatures pray in the temple.
i mostly have enough mana for using pit.
i think you just dont know how to use combat pit right, thats why you always run out of mana fast, thats why your creatures die and this is why you dont like the pit.
i think you dont have much experience in online games, so you dont know how to use it right or why you need it. maybe you play vs ai or low lvl heroes, so you dont need high lvl creatures.
its ok if you dont like the pit, everyone can like what he wants. but i just say, you wont survive on multiplayer without this room, unless you play with noobs or forbid the room.
btw, in the last 2 years i have been playing dk2 again, i lost not more than 5 creatures in my combat pit.
Rallie - September 1, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)
i also hated the combat pit it ruined my easy attacks and i use a "imp limit" so i only have only like 18 imps so i don't get out of mana

Then tell me, during multiplayer games, do you build that room asap and drop the level 1 creatures in it? How do you become a "good player"? How do you use the room properly?

How can you say that, we have never played together yet. Anyway, for now, it's normal, you've played many multiplayer games and I played none so far. I'm pretty sure that if I'm gonna play versus you, I'll lose in the count of 3. Anyway, this is not the point of the discussion.

Wait, I do know how to use it, but maybe not to its best. I do drop my imps on knocked down bodies all the time so none of them die. It's just the FACT that they MAY die and that we must watch them fighting that annoys me, simply.

i know that the combat pit is really useful, but i have to agree with dragonslover in that it is really annoying and boring. usually i just make a custom map where the training room goes up to level 8, and bks are attracted by training rooms.
Rallie - September 2, 2008 02:48 PM (GMT)
some creatures lvl up faster than others and ranged creatures can u leave alone without heal for a long time

yes i do.
the game experience makes a player a good player. i think
how using combat pit properly ?
some examples:
- let the creatures fight in pairs (if they all are on same lvl)
dont let 3 knights lvl 1 fight vs 1 knight lvl 1. like some ppl do, they just drop a load of creatures and let them fight. when you let them fight in pairs they can hold longer.
- dont heal all 2 secs, let them fight until they flash and 1-2 hits more (this way you can safe mana)
- if you let different creatures fight, like 1 angel, 1 bile and 1 mistress. dont let the bile and angel fight vs the mistress, she will die fast. set the bile demon to the middle and let him fight vs angel and mistress. he is fat and can hold longer, so thats a longer training for all.
or if you let 3 bile demons fight, set the one with higher lvl between the 2 others.
- never let fight "shooters" vs warriors, like warlock vs knight, you will have to heal the warlock each second, thats useless.
- you can also train without mana or without heal spell. just drop them in and watch out when someone is flashing, pick him and drop to the lair > you dont need to use imps to take them to the lair.
there are even more things how to use combat pit "better", but ppl should find them out by themselves.

that was only an example, a comparison. a fast combat pit user will train his creatures up 2x faster than a good training room user.

yes, thats what i meant, you might not know how to use it best.
yes they MAY die, but if you drop your imps > they NEVER die, where is the problem then if they NEVER die ? i dont have a problem with MAY if i they NEVER die ^^
well, you dont need watch them fighting all they time (i posted already)
sure you cant be away ALWAYS, some time you have to spend for this. but you dont need to train ALL to lvl 8. you can train only some to lvl 5 or 6. you dont spend much time for this.
but i´m not trying to convince you using pit more often, the keeper has to know himself whats the best for him > he just has to reckon with the consequenses.
like: if someone uses training room in hard matches, he shouldnt wonder why he lost.

no, i will play. i have already played some games (patrician knows) without combat pit, and it was pretty fun.
in 99,9 % of all my online games in last 2 years i used combat pit for the main training, and knights. i get pissed off that sometimes, because it gets boring always playing same way, so i could be up for a "no combat pit" game, too.
emporerjay - September 4, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
i agree with both of you. DragonsLover i must say i do find it boring constantly stopping what your doing and going back to heal you creatures but i have to agree with Dark angel in the fact that its the fastest way to train even if it does get boring and if you play online on a map where there are no gem seams ( or whatever there called ) you just waste money building the room and then paying for the training when you might aswell do it in the combat pit
nijuni_kuro - September 10, 2008 10:14 AM (GMT)
1) You are playing a BAD guy. EVIL. The one who doesn't CARE about his minions and only use them for his evil needs.
2) If you could just drop them and they won't kill eachother, it would be just TOO EASY! If they couldn't kill eachother, you won't NEED Training Room, you could just drop them in Combat Pit and leave them! Besides, they get knocked unconcious, you have enough time to save them before they die. Personally, I like it this way. In DK1 you could just leave a creature in Training Room and get it to level 10! That was just plain weird (I won't say stupid...)! It's much more balanced this way!
If you want to use the Combat Pit without having to check on your creatures often, train RANGED units! And as Dark Angel said, DON'T mix melee and ranged unit in Combat Pit! Ranged units won't last much. As for melee units - they DO need much more of your time in order to keep "training" in Combat Pit. Just follow Dark Angel's pointers.

well personally i love making a masive combat pit and "pitting" all my creatures against each other, though i tend to lose lots of skeletons and vmpires that way 8-)
Ive found that if you want your imps to come collect your KOd creatures, build a lair and hatchery next to the pit, and have a door blocking off all other parts of the dungon. so you segrigate your combat pit, lair and hatchery. Next have about 5 imps in the room, now drop the creatures you want to fight on the lair so they make a new home, now put the creatures you want to fight in the pit, leave and then you only need to come back when you hear "the fight in the combat pit is over" *too long winded* Heal your victor then get them back to fighting
So in all, you're spending barley any time at the pit, your imps have nothing to do apart from hurl around your KOd creatures and your creatures have nothing to do apart from cheer each other on and attempt to kill each other. Simple, no?
As for paydays, add a treasurey and refill it by your self (a little work for alot of benifit)
Dont think i've missed anything....
All in all, training room is good for getting general creatures to a good fighting standard, and combat pit is good for excelling creatures to a much higher standard, takes practice but in the end i prefere the combat pit, trains creatures much faster.
Wyrmcast - November 15, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)
DK1 training room was better. DK2 combat pit is a gimmick that becomes an annoyance, demanding all of your attention.
