Title: Hang out groups
Description: who the creatures hang out with
muhfish - July 23, 2008 03:10 AM (GMT)
I was thinking that we should give the creatures a touch or more personality by giving the creatures preferences of who they spend their time with.
I hear the arguments coming. "Oh, you just want the creatures to be all nice and happy and friendly." Not true. If you look at any prison (I would know, there are TONS of prisoners in the U.S.) there are many groups that form, and friendly-like bonding. I relate prisoners to creatures because they are kind of alike. Also, this adds more of a personality factor to the creatures, which would be fun.
So this works kind of like the opposite of creatures hating each other. Instead of creatures becoming less efficient and angry when around certain others, creatures will work harder and become more prone to happiness when around certain creatures.
Also, this could add something for creatures to do when they are idle. If you don't want to (or can't) build any extra rooms, then the creatures could be occupied by hanging out with their companions.
For example, tentacles and hydras could prefer to hang out, both of them being water creatures.
Or maybe orcs could be more efficient if there are other orcs around, seeing as they like to compete with their 'peers.'
If the idea doesn't fly, that's fine. I'm just kind of throwing this out there.

I like it as well, it can work. But I would think primairily most sentient creatures would only like to hang with creatures of their own race, mostly. Orcs with Orcs, Warlocks with Warlocks, Trolls with Trolls, etc.
Hydras and Tentacles could work perhaps.
Spiders and Maidens would work well together.
Hellhounds could be any sort of Demon's "best friend"
Various creatures could be extra protective over cute little imps.
Bilies and Mistressi ;)
Perhaps with Dragons it could be more exclusive: The higher a level the dragon becomes, the more he secludes him/herself with OTHER high level creatures (probably just dragons). In a typical down-looking fashion.

Do remember that creatures of the same look or appeal or whatever (like spiders and maidens) are not always happy with eachother.
An good example is warlock vs vampire:
Though they may do research just fine together, the jealousy of the warlocks on the vampire's immortality makes hate.

the problem I have is it would make spamming 1 or 2 creatures more tempting

This looks like a good idea if kept to a moderate amount of creatures;
Vampires and Ghosts could go well together since they are both undead thus cannot eat.
Hydras and Tentacles could work, if they are both in the game.
I've always considered Warlocks to be competitive with other creatures and each other although with discipline they would train or research together.
Orcs, Trolls and Dragons would prefer to be wth their own species, maybe high-level Dragons would be more independent - the creature stats would need to be considered for that idea.

Demon Spawns, if in, and if still baby dragons, may linger around the elder reptile, but not viceversa.

Whoops, I think I was stressed that day.
I meant Skeletons and Ghosts cannot eat so they should be friendly with each other.

I like the idea of Demonspawn happily jumping at the feet of dragons, but not turning into them and not finding the friendlyness returned. Dragons wouldn't find demonspawn annoying though, I think - who doesn't love DS ?
Undead I don't think really need anything they "prefer" to hang with, they don't have desires. At least skeletons don't. Ghosts might want to linger with one another. I agree high level dragons would be more independant. Most humanoids would clutter with their own kin, and Warlocks are just egocentric and don't need anyone.

Yeah, but ghosts have just a soul, while skeletons are physical.
I am not sure about the hang out group idea, as creatures already tend to gather in the rooms they like, and may already fight if they hate eachother.

Bile Demons are probably picked on by everyone else for being fat. So they would prefer spending time with each other. And maybe flies like Bileys, because you always see flies swarming around trash.
I don't think Horned Reapers would enjoy anythings' company. Except mistresses. They probably relax a bit when a mistress is around.
Vampires would research faster and be more comfortable in their lairs with hellhounds around. Hellhounds are like pet dogs to vampires.
Converted heroes tend to hang out with other converts, for obvious reasons. However, they mysteriously train faster when a mistress appears. Yes, even monks become corrupted.
Orcs and minotaurs have an interesting relationship. They are a bit hostile because they want to prove whose species is better. But they also respect each other because they are both bloodthirsty crazy berserker beasts.
Trolls probably enjoy bossing around other workshop creatures.
If you happen to recruit dwarves, your imps will work faster just to show the dwarves how slow they are. Dwarves dig faster in order to show imps how weak they are.
Goblins, being packlike creatures, would get combat bonuses if there are other goblins around.
If we do include necromancers, then skeletons would be drawn to them because of their undead dark auras. They could serve as bodyguards, and make the necromancer feel more safe.

then u could drop your creatures that hate each ohter in the prison? then u can add so they can fight in the prison or suicide somehow. if they can't be pals
Robofish - August 9, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
i doubt other creatures would pick on bile demons lol, would you?
muhfish - August 9, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
its not like they could catch you lol
And also, if demon spawns and tentacles are together, then they both lose work efficiancy, because demon spawns are fire-like and tentacles are water.
DzjeeAr - August 11, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
So creatures dislike each other now already because they are classified as native to a different element? They are creatures of FLESH and BLOOD. Wtf fire and water?
muhfish - August 11, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
It's like if you put a fish next to a burning piece of wood. Well not really...I don't know, i just thought it would make sense...
