Title: Level changes
Description: Appearance changes as they level

muhfish - July 7, 2008 03:01 AM (GMT)
I think that as the creatures level, then they should change appearance. Was this feature in DK1? Size change, right?

But I think that in addition to growing larger as the level increases, the creatures should develop different traits. Like the dragon should change from green at level one to crimson red at level 10. Or maybe the Bile Demon gets more greasy and fat.

Anyone else have ideas?

- The hydra gets more heads :)
- The Orcs hammer gets more elaborate with spikes, and the orc himself donnes more and more simple armor with each level (like a shoulderpad, a helmet, etc to make the growing defence visible)
- The sorcerer could be surrounded with harmless magic lightning (the higher the level, the more he sparks to show his growing power)

Size and colour changes would be the most noticeable during gameplay so I'd vote for that.

Warlocks and Vampires gowns could change colour and become more highly decorated to indicate their experience.

Fighting creatures could become more muscular in addition to gaining extra armour.

Mistressi could wear less...or more? :)

Duh...*creature advancement* thread ring a bell? :P
This can still happen but it'd be different as to how :D

Awesome ideas, though it calls for alot of different models Im afraid.

I like the idea of slight appearance changes for higher level creatures, changing the colour of skin and clothes would be most noticable.
Here are a few ideas:
Skeletons could become dimmer in colour, making it look like they are aging.
Dragons could darken in skin colour.
Spikes could be added to Orc armour.
Warlock cloak could be decorated with gold or precious stones.

don't forget that they shall look MORE evil kinda scary..ye something like that but it dosen't need to all those parts :D

Bile demon...hmm....
Just gets larger

Appearence change also has to display how their stats change.
Bile Demon becoming bigger because their health increase so generally, they're tougher.

Warlock as mentioned, their clothes would become more decorated showing their knowledge of magic so spell damage + :D

etc..

I really like this idea.

Size increase should occur as well.

It shouldn't be too much of a problem for the models though, right? You simply copy the original model and modify it a little.

Dragons - Neutral Green to Evil Red, I love that.
Bile Demon - More fat seems like a good idea to me... But I think the effect would be hardly noticable on bile demons, since size increase already makes them look more fat. Not all models would need modifications per level, bilies might remain the same, just larger.
Mistressi - Skimpier clothing :D I wanna masturbate while I play. Seriously, no joke.
Orcs - I don't know actually.... It would depend if the idea of the armory is used or not. If not, it could don in better armor and the like at higher levels. If it is, I wouldn't say a lot of changes as it levels up, as its appearance would mostly depend on the equipment you would give it.

Some creatures could get warpaint like in BFME where the mumuks would get warpaint and spikes attached to its tusks and things like that.

I forsee disagreement, but I for one don't want orcs getting more armour. I just cant bear to loose sight of their trademark pinkness :(

Otherwise I'm happy with the idea of slight changes in apperance, though keep it minimal so as not to make it confusing e.g. 10 different apperences for knights and paladins, if you come across a level 10 for the first time you shouldnt have to find out what it is, however easy it is to do, it should be immediatly obvious.

psycix - July 18, 2008 08:29 PM (GMT)
First off: They're purple, not pink

But yes, you are right in that they should not look be that different.

i like the level changes idea.
There could be 3 models for each creature:
level 1: normal creature model.
level 5: a small difference in texture(skin color) and model(new weapon/armor).
level 10: a big difference in texture(armor color) and model(new weapon/armor).

Also there could be size changes each level, like in DK1/DK2. Thats easy to do, just a small coding issue.
