I would start by watching Silent Thunder's 2:26 video. It's on YouTube, and it's linked from slo_bro's video site. (He calls himself "sloobro" on YouTube, if that helps.)

I watched that video. Then I found this post from earlier this year:

For what it's worth, my basic route for Ursa involved a simple clockwise loop around the main road, grabbing the line of skaters near the top of the hill (you hit them in a straight line, then turn around and get them). After the shrubs and lampposts, I make a hard right into the "bleachers," then through the water and across toward the soda machines and the park. Trees and fence. Bear!  :)

I couldn't quite make matthew69's way work for me, so I used a cross between his and Silent Thunder's. From what I can remember: Start with a clockwise loop, make my way back toward the green fences at the baseball field, get some items around the playground, get the phone booth and small trees, and hope the Kintaro-Bear comes through the tunnel just as I reach the proper size. My best time is 2:12, but I haven't tried to speed-run Ursa in several months.

I've watched the video several times previously (I subscribed to sloobro about a month and a half ago) and I'm getting better all the time. I'm pretty impressed that I got past four minutes. :D

I pretty much have the same route, except for the beginning part. When you come out of the water to get the benches, I don't get just three, I get five and the little bucket of wood on the stage. It increases my size just a bit, but I think it helps in the long run.

Just a tip you probably already know put I'll say it anyway: when you get on the road after you get the benches, make sure the elephant has not gone by yet. That means you're going at a prefered fast speed.

I switched controllers the other day (controller two[the one hardly ever used]is now controller one), and my scores have increased in size and sped up in time drastically since then. I'm glad I switched! :thumbsup :gba

3:13 is a good time. :)

A bit more detail about my route: At the start, turn right. Get some tires and roll onto the road while avoiding the tiny bears on the path. Turn right onto the road and dash in a clockwise loop around the road. Get the umbrellas, etc. on the side of the road and keep dashing through items in the center. (You can't get the taiko drum just after the tunnel.) You might try getting the gas pumps; I can't remember if I got them or not. Stay on the road until you get to the baseball field. Get the watermelons and children. Get the chairs if you want, but you can get those when you come back for the fences. Head for the garden plants and lampposts. Get them all and...I don't remember how I got back to the fences. I think I came back up the road and got the grand opening signs on the way to the fences. Anyway, head up the road to the phone booth across from the gas station after that. Get the vending machine behind the next building and drop down to the playground. Get the sandpiles, benches, handrails, and anything else you can get. Get the vending machines and the garbage dump (you may not be large enough for that). Get the storage shed and quick turn. Roll to the top of the hill for the phone booth and turn right for the small trees. Get nearby items as needed and you should be large enough when the bear shows up.

Back when I was running this route, I was terrible at avoiding the bear statues on the road (in between the garden plants, etc.). I kept getting knocked into them by cars and the Kintaro-Bear. But the plants and posts are great for boosting your size quickly. Anyway, I remember that the Kintaro-Bear finally knocked me into something good on my best run. I think it was the signs near the small trees. That brought me to the proper size and I got the bear! It was lucky.

You're making me want to try again! My controllers (I'm up to 3 now) are all pretty much fried. KD requires a controller in excellent condition. Switching to a better controller is always a good idea. I'm getting some new ones this week. See my "PS2 Controllers" topic in Pachinko Parlor for details.

Ah. So you're saying that getting the people in the lake is a complete waste of time? It only takes about thirty seconds, and then I take the exact same route you told me. So, basically, I have a chance of getting a 2:45 or so with my route. But I'll try yours just to see how it works. :D
