Title: Olympics
vix - August 7, 2008 06:05 PM (GMT)
Anyone gonna watch em tomorrow and throughout?
Jag - August 7, 2008 06:08 PM (GMT)
Perhaps the opening ceremonies, but nothing else. I have no interest in any sports, and the summer ones are especially boring. In fact, the opening ceremony is of little interest to me in the first place. So perhaps not at all.

man, is it here already? maybe i'll watch some here and there, but i'm no dedicated follower. i enjoy the winter olympics much more.
vix - August 7, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
there are some things i enjoy during the summer. some types of gymnastics, diving, swimming, trampoline(one of the guys who always competes in ninja warrior is there), fencing, ping pong, baseball, and some others probably.

kiss baseball goodbye, isn't this supposed to be the last year? or was that just a rumor?
vix - August 7, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
that's what i heard as well. kinda sad but oh well.
discostu - August 7, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
track and field im interested in some of the swimming can be exciting too and any sports with fit women :P
DigitalDuckie - August 11, 2008 11:44 PM (GMT)
I might catch some gymnastics here and there... I'd follow baseball more closely if I weren't following the 'Stros and they weren't f'ing up baseball in the Olympics D: And yes, baseball won't be in the next summer Olympics, nor will softball. Anything else I'm remotely interested in they don't really show or is much more interesting to participate in than it is to watch (like archery).
I don't really have a preference between summer or winter. I've got a few things I enjoy enough in each. *shrugs*

Yeah, i wanted to see the trampoline but no idea if it'll be on tv.
waxc3 - August 12, 2008 04:35 AM (GMT)
i saw like 30 seconds of volleyball. they were talking about how cool some player was cause he dropped out of high school and is a surfer and is soooo cool. i shut that right off! :smirk
i sadly missed most of the xgames too. i DO like watching that. can relate to those events more than the olympic ones.
Itsygo - August 13, 2008 11:18 PM (GMT)
I've kinda sorta been following along. Just hasn't held my interest like they have in years past.
jakeslashgod - August 23, 2008 12:47 PM (GMT)
i watch britain fail at everything that doesnt involve cycling or water but im not too interested to be honest

I'm a bit surprised this topic didn't attract more interest. I've enjoyed the Olympics this time around. It's been one of the few things that managed to tear me away from KD! Maybe I needed a break anyway.
Did anyone else stay up late to watch the USA/Spain gold medal basketball game last night? I was up late anyway, so I tuned it in. It was awesome, and I don't even know or like basketball much. I always like the track & field and swimming. I cheered on Michael Phelps like I know millions of others did.
I wasn't even too upset about the big letdowns in gymnastics and track. It was just awesome. Bring on 2012! :D

I'm waiting to see how many more will be stripped of their medals for doping and being underage.

Well, like many I also suspect there are underage participants (Chinese gymnasts). I'm sure there is also doping going on. There has been in the past, and it will continue. If someone is caught, they should be disqualified. This is the way the world is, though. I try to put aside such concerns and just enjoy watching people do amazing things. I couldn't care less about sports the rest of the time, but I will continue to enjoy the Olympics. :)

There's no way most of the Chinese gymnasts were 16 and up when some were missing teeth and their adult teeth were still coming in and i'm not talking about wisdom teeth here. :rolleyes
Quite a few athletes already lost their medals for various reasons.

Apparently the Sydney orchestra has admitted to not only "lip syncing" the openings in 2000 but that they also used a recording that was of an entirely different orchestra from elsewhere.
What's with all the phoney? :| You just look more 'tarded faking it than you do messing it up for real. It wouldn't really even be an issue if they'd like, said straight up from the beginning that they were going to use a recording and still have an orchestra there for looks. Fine, whatever. At least they'd have been honest. But fessing up 8 years later isn't going to make it cool.
vix - September 1, 2008 12:10 AM (GMT)
yeah, i don't get it either.
