In less than a week Electronic Arts will be showing off Rock Band 2 to the world's gaming press at this year's E3. To get your motor running a bit early, Harmonix dropped this fat fact sheet and these images on us.

First things first: If you already own Rock Band and you buy Rock Band 2 all of your songs will transfer over automatically and free o' charge.

Rock Band 2, which hits the Xbox 360 this September and the PS2, PS3 and Wii later this year, includes a number of new tweaks both to the software and hardware. Some highlights:

The new and improved drums and guitar peripherals will be compatible with the original Rock Band and original instruments will work with Rock Band 2. The new guitar will have a sturdier strum bar, quieter buttons and be wireless. The new drum kit will include a metal reinforced pedal, quieter pads, velocity sensors and... be wireless.

New Mini-Campaigns
Custom Set Lists
Online World Tour
Drum Trainer

That's right, Rock Band 2 will literally teach you how to play drums.

We weren't allowed to play with the new instruments when the game was showed off to press last month, but I did manage to grope the drum kit for a few seconds when no one was looking. The pedal looked like it would stand up to more abuse and the drums themselves had a thicker rubber like feel to them. I'm certain they would be much quieter. The guitar, well the guitar looks just kick ass.

Hit the jump for tons of details and a pic of the fancy new instrument.

see, i was about to jump on the gh: wt bandwagon a little while back, and now rb2 has stolen my heart. mmm. i think i like the look of the old guitar better, but i'll probably end up playing whichever feels better, and hopefully this one does.

it would be nice if rb2 recognized your rb file and you could keep your character, career points, and money, but i doubt that would happen.

vix - July 9, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
hey, it's possible. you never know what might happen over the coming months.

Arctic Phoenix - July 9, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
Looks cool, but I'm still on the fence. I'm considering pre ordering the disk only.

I already ordered GH:WT with the guitar only, but I might get RB2 with the disc only since the cavern of plastic instruments (aka the space under my big table in the den. Thankfully it is covered with a table cloth.) is about to explode. Speaking of that I gotta clean that space.

vix - July 9, 2008 08:54 PM (GMT)
yeah, i'm debating about the bundle. not sure yet.

marbig - July 10, 2008 12:49 AM (GMT)
Guitar looks great, if I can have all of the Rock Band 1 songs free of charge, I will get it.

vix - July 10, 2008 01:48 AM (GMT)
that's what i'm curious about. how will they know if you paid for and bought the first game. is it gonna be based on having a save file on your system? since it wouldn't be fair to those that bought the game for those that didn't buy to get all of the first game's songs for free.

s0njas0n - July 10, 2008 01:49 AM (GMT)
i'm sure i'll get the bundle, whether or not i'll keep all my old instruments is another thing.

waxc3 - July 10, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)
i will get the disk, but i dont want ANOTHER set of instruments around! i already have 3 guitars in the living room :doh

i loved Ace of Spades in high school! cool.

JimNasium - July 11, 2008 04:43 AM (GMT)
I hate to say it, but GH:WT is looking much better. RB2 just looks like they fixed the problems in the first game

ThumbsOfSteel - July 21, 2008 01:40 PM (GMT)
The following items have nothing to do with RB2, but I thought this might be better than starting a whole new topic. By the way, I don't have RB1 and don't plan on getting it. For those of you who have it or plan on getting it:

Track Pack Vol 1: This is being released on PS2 and Wii. It's ~20 songs for ~$30. Whether you have it or not, what do you all think of it?

FYI: RB1 for PS2 is on sale (maybe permanently marked down?) for ~$100 at two different major chains this week. (I don't know if I can say which ones on here. Let's call them BB and CC.)

:)

vix - July 21, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
if you got the ps2 version of rock band, harmonix says that the controllers will work for the ps3 version as well so if you get it and one day decide you want the ps3 version, you'll already have instruments(even though as i think about it the ps2 version plus the ps3 game only verison is probably around the same price as the ps3 version, lol)

elitebeatagents - July 22, 2008 02:41 PM (GMT)
I just checked the leaked setlist and OMFG. AC/DC, Megadeth, Metallica, and The Who. Sweet!

s0njas0n - July 22, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
yeah, it's everywhere. i have to say i really don't know that many songs.

vix - July 22, 2008 05:50 PM (GMT)
psycho killer is enough for me. :D

s0njas0n - July 22, 2008 05:51 PM (GMT)
gonna pay $60 for one song? awesome... i think

Jag - July 22, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
*Jag didn't bother reading the first post, but jumped in at the end of the topic from something he saw vix say*

Psycho Killer? As in The Talking Heads?

Great, I may just have to jump on the bandwagon too. Although I don't own any GH or RB games, I'm sure my roommate will get it.

EDIT: *Jag has now read the first post (most of it)*

EVERLONG!?!? My favorite song from my favorite album by my favorite band. I was just commenting to my roommate, his girlfriend, my friend and his wife when we played on Saturday how much I wished they'd had Everlong or anything off The Colour and the Shape rather than Learn to Fly.

vix - July 22, 2008 06:25 PM (GMT)
and all the rb1 dlc works with it as well as most of the tracks from the first game(if you own the first game)

Jag - July 22, 2008 06:31 PM (GMT)
Well, I was just listening to the Talking Heads, (namely Psycho Killer and And She Was...), which is why I jumped in on that when I saw it. It was just a case of good timing... I guess.

But Everlong is something to get excited about.

Also, new avatar and title for the first time in (is it years?) a long time.

waxc3 - September 4, 2008 11:03 AM (GMT)
so who is getting rock band 2!?
i am glad i will be able to walk in buy just the disc.
no need for new instruments yet.

s0njas0n - September 4, 2008 01:25 PM (GMT)
i'm getting it. i'm pretty sure the disc is all i'm getting. it won't be out for the ps3 until oct.

vix - September 4, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)
disc only for me...actually from what i heard there are no bundles available for the 360 until the ps3 version comes out so you're stuck with the disc only anyways.

but i'm getting it, not sure how much i'll be playing it with lbp coming out the same time.

waxc3 - September 8, 2008 04:32 PM (GMT)
when the heck does the 360 one come out!? the release dates on store websites are all over the place. the most common two dates are the 9th and the 14th (which a sunday).

i am not cool with these sunday releases that are springing up...
i want to buy a game on teh way from work. i dont want to drive to town sunday. :glare

edit: went by gamestop. they said 360 disc is the 14th and the package set is the 19th.
