Guitar Hero: Metallica due by Q1 '09 Latest SEC filing by Activision confirms Bay Area metal quartet will be subject of next band-centric rhythm game; new James Bond game gets final title. By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot Posted Jun 2, 2008 3:51 pm ET
Earlier this year, Activision unveiled Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the first installment in its billion-dollar rhythm series based entirely on a band. No sooner had the publisher announced the deal than speculation began to spread about what the second band-based Guitar Hero title would be. Along with Van Halen, the most mentioned group was Metallica, the legendary San Francisco Bay Area heavy metal quartet.
Time to ride the royalty lightning! Now, talk of Guitar Hero: Metallica is no longer a case of wishful thinking or idle speculation--it's fact. When sifting through a SEC filing of Activision's over the weekend, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Edward Woo--associate of the highly visible Michael Pachter--uncovered a gem when the Santa Monica, California-based publisher discussed its upcoming game slate.
"In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms," the company said in its report. Activision's fiscal year ends on March 31, 2009--meaning the game will likely follow the holiday release of Guitar Hero: World Tour (nee Guitar Hero 4).
Guitar Hero: Metallica will be the first time a game based on the multiplatinum-selling band--which has become only slightly less famous for its anti-piracy efforts as its musical achievements--has made it to retail. However, it is the second such game to be announced. In 2003, Vivendi Games--which will soon merge with Activision--struck a deal to create a vehicular combat game inspired by Metallica's music. Unconfirmed stated the project had been quietly canceled in 2005.
In other news, Activision's SEC also confirmed that the next James Bond game--which will be developed by Treyarch and uses the Call of Duty 4 engine--will indeed be titled Quantum of Solace like the next James Bond film.

that game would be HARD! on any setting.

with this logic they could have hundreds of games one day. release all the songs for one artist on a new game. it would be funny if they were all cover songs, though.

yea originally they were (rock b and gh) talking about reusing the equipt' and just releasing new discs and lots of downloads for a couple years.
makes great sense.

if you got all of the songs from rock band it would cost over $200. that's a crazy thought. as for these gh games with one artist, i'll pass. it seems like a scam, why not just release albums as dlc for gh3?

dlc for gh iii is hard to come buy a pack of three songs maybe every two months. they make more money this way. not everyone has online or next gen versions of guitar hero. it makes sense to moronvision to keep doing this.

BTW: I read somewhere that Aerosmith has spent the last months on GH:Aerosmith, so the songs should not be cover-versions (that wouldn't make sense, anyways). Well, the songs won't sound like originals if they had to record them again, and even if they DID use old takes from old tapes, it's a hard job to mix them again, there's an insane amount of post-processing. (what to fade, what to keep, multiple takes on separate tracks spliced together... room acoustics, pan...)

well, i didn't really think they would be cover songs, i was just joking. i was just thinking of more ways for activision to make money, lol.
