I don't know what possibly could be wrong. last time this happend it wasn't hooked up to the T.V right but it is now because it did it in the middle of a game.
I checked the wires took the game out and the thing is hardly warm I'm just letting it sit now.
This is known as the red ring of death. You may need to send it in to Micro$oft to get it fixed.
is it three flashing sections of the ring? if so, it's likely the red ring of death and your 360 is now an expensive paper weight. you can call msoft and they usually fix them for free but it takes a few weeks to get the 360 back from them.

yea, we need to know how many of the 4 lights are red.
if it is 3 then you need to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX and they will tell you what to do next.
