Title: Do You Think We'll Get a New Game?

vix - April 11, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
Since the lifespan of BK was a lot shorter than we expected, due in part to the console it came out on, do you folks think we'll see a new game at any point?

I think the 360 doomed BK as it was a game that was looked up as easy achievements and not playability. I think it would have fared better as a multi-console release. Even handheld.

i think a release on the ps3 of any kind would be great... like you said before, even a compilation of all the games and a few new levels or a new game on one disc would be a good idea. i don't even know what to think right now. i can't even say i'm hopeful at this point, because all signs are pointing to no. but of course, i would be psyched if there was and i would buy a copy.

and like i said before... i wish they would even release it on the ps2, that's where the original audience is, and i don't think that the entire population of ps2 players have moved on to current-gen gaming.

even if they did a psn/blu-ray release, doing it via both opens it up to more players. players that might not normally pick it up in a store for whatever reason might download it via the store. who knows. there's potential but it looks doubtful unfortunately.

s0njas0n - April 13, 2008 05:55 PM (GMT)
i agree. if they did a psn release i would be ok with that, but i would like for there to be an option of both. what i would really like to see is an improved bk (fixed frame rates, all levels included, better online) with maybe some new dlc. now, that may never happen, but that would would make me very happy at the moment.

vix - April 13, 2008 10:13 PM (GMT)
i keep hoping we'll get something in the way of news.

katamari > kalamari - April 13, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
I honestly think we're going to get a new game. After the whole MMK thing, I'm not sure I'll ever believe that the series is over. :lol

s0njas0n - April 14, 2008 12:56 AM (GMT)
they've been putting out one a year, too. that's pretty fast for releasing new games in a series, i think.

vix - April 14, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
that's true, wlk was supposed to be the last game.

discostu - April 14, 2008 11:03 AM (GMT)
tbh i wouldnt be overly sad if they stopped the series. if they arent gonna improve it dont bother at all

waxc3 - April 14, 2008 11:06 AM (GMT)
theres one more coming. that is what i think.

vix - April 14, 2008 03:54 PM (GMT)
i agree stu, if they aren't going to variet-ize the levels, and add more levels and what not, what's the point?

waxc3 - May 9, 2008 10:38 AM (GMT)
i say within one year of today you will know about a new katamari game.

vix - May 9, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
i think by then it might be too late. :(

for what buddy? to revive the franchise or to keep the board active?

if another game releases this site will become active with a bunch of strangers all over again :smirk

then in time it will die out again.
you all know where to find me if you ever need me again.

vix - May 9, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)
haha, both likely though the board will probably always remain a teeny tiny bit active(just not katamari active), i think if they wait that long, a lot of people might not evey care. games like littlebigplanet, etc are becoming the new "katamari" in terms of being extremely different from everything else and awesome.

we get another katamari game and it's not limited to just one console then we might get lucky and have activity for more than a month. bk on the 360 only wasn't the best move.

agreed.
they probably have a legit reason, which i would love to hear!

msoft probably paid for exclusivity to screw sony since sony doesn't "believe" in paying for exclusivity.

i still hope it's a time release cause otherwise it's likely i won't be playing bk anymore.

I really don't know seeing as the last game had such a short lifespan. It kinda sucked how they stopped making downloadable content after a while, but I guess that happens with every game (stupid developers). :dead I shure hope there is a new game soon with a multi console release. I look forward to seeing the series grow and develop into the best katamri game ever created. the problem is they need to get back to the primary objective: getting bigger. The object of the game was to get bigger, not to get as much of a certain item, and it's the same thing with multiplayer! :mad I'm okay with this playstyle, but it seems more like one of the constellation levels on KD, and that's what It should be in the future games. Also, they need to keep upgrading the size and areas you can get to like they keep doing in each game. I'm really excited to see levels featuring rolling on different planets or even rolling up whole galaxies! If they don't continue the series, I really don't know what I'll do. I suppose I'll wait and see if Noki Noki Boy has sequels on different systems because that game has tons of potential. Still, I hope there are more Katamari games. :D

vix - July 8, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
BK never really had DLC. That stuff was already on the disc. You just had to pay to unlock it.

I keep hoping we'll get some sort of announcement but it's looking like it may never happen.

katamari > kalamari - July 8, 2008 04:40 AM (GMT)
Wow you guys are real downers. And just stupid or plain fanboy/girlish. :P YOU KNOW WHO I MEAN. :3

Oh please, you think that an announcement won't happen at this point? It's only been 8 months!

I'm sure we will get a new game. Before they announced that the series died. I wouldn't be surprised if they pull that again. I also remember Namco stating that the franchise is "very important to them."

Also, you think that after a certain amount of time, fans will just stop caring? :lol
There are revivals that take over a decade, and many, if not most fans are still there. It has been less than a year!

Just wait and see. I'm sure a new game will be announced some time this year or 2009.

And also, who would rather have the series die, than have some more games? Even if they are of less quality, I think they are finally on the right track. Beautiful Katamari was a huge step forward from MMK, so I think the new director is finally getting it.
I'm sure that he could pull of something brilliant.

vix - July 8, 2008 04:46 AM (GMT)
less quality though, makes less people buy it and less ambition for them to kepe making them.

bk had maybe two months of popularity and now no one plays it (people still only play it for the achievements) and no one even really remembers it came out. i mean, it's lifespan was way too short because it just wasn't that good. it was better than mmk, sure...but you can't compare a psp game to a 360 games. bk doesn't even really live up to wlk to most people. it lacked that charm that made katamari katamari.

i'd be happy with a ps3 port of bk though at this point. as much as i want new katamari games to play, i just don't know if it's gonna happen. perhaps. if nothing comes out this year though, it's gonna be a long, long, long wait till fall of 09(since that's when they usually come out) for the board.

s0njas0n - July 8, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
hm, i don't think i was being fangirlish even though i do think part of the reason it didn't do as well was because it was on the 360. that's not because i dislike the system, but because i think that if they released it on the ps2 mainly and possibly the ps3 (though not necessarily) it would have made it more accessible to fans. though the controls weren't the worst with the uneven analog sticks (that prize goes to mmk) it definitely took some getting used to.

the main part of the game that i didn't like was lack of originality. sure, it had some varied levels, but the humor was so dry. i actually liked mmk more than bk to be honest, but i don't know how many people would agree with me on that. sure it wasn't the best in the series, but it was still funny and different. the formula may not have been the best with the warping, but it did make the game stand out from the rest. heck, i'd love a console port of mmk because the controls were so wonky and hand cramping.

bk was ok, but they could do better. if they do something better i'm fine with a new release, if it's going to be a mediocre or bad game with more items it's not worth it.

reecer6 - August 23, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
It is possible there's going to be a 5th game, but there's a 75% chance that Namco finished the Katamari series. I can't even get Nomi Nomi Boy because i don't have a PS3! Can PS3 games work in a PS2?

vix - August 23, 2008 10:57 PM (GMT)
Nobi Nobi Boy* :) and no, lol...ps3 games won't play in a ps2. that would make the ps3 pointless. :lol
