Rate the first(and hopefully not last) entry into katamari next-gen.

Was it next-gen goodness?

8. It was better than all of the previous games in a technical aspect, and every stage was CRAMMED with items. It had great presents and cousins, and of course eternals. There were a ton of items to collect, and DLC and leaderboards kept it going after you cleared everything in the main game. It also had the greatest final stage, going from a town to outer space!

But it seemed to lack a certain charm. The music and stage designs just seemed...not right. The music seemed a little too much like mainstream J-Pop and less weird and Katamari-esque. Perhaps this is because the change of main composers and the apparent lack of Yu Miyake. They seemed to miss that familiar style and flair. The one main exception would be Sayonara Rolling Star because that had the same composer and style on LRS.

It lacked variety and did not make me feel like I wanted to go back for more. They almost seemed a little too lifeless, or less real. The people didn't seem to interact with you enough. There was also a lack of areas, and there seemed to be less "rare" and hard to find items, making item collection a little too easy.

I feel like most, if not all of these could be applied to MMK as well. The new director seems to have some recurring problems, but I feel it was a step in the right direction.
I feel if he can recreate the feel of the first 2 games, he may have a chance to create a game better than WLK.

this one is definitely not my favorite overall but there were good bits to it. though the online was awful and the excessive use of the 360 items felt like msoft was rubbing it in sony's face about not having the game.

i did like eternals and the DLC levels were great even if they should have been there in the first place.

i've played bk the most of all the games so far. it is the only one i've actually completed to date. unfortunately, it didn't have as much of the quirkiness we had grown to love from the previous installments. in the age where dlc is pretty much a given for every game on the market, katamari was no exception. they half-assed the game and tacked on dlc.

now, don't get me wrong, i liked the game, but i think they know their audience (either fans of the series or achievement whores) and didn't put as much thought into original levels as they could have. to even get the levels that weren't strictly the same thing that we've seen over and over again you're required to have an internet connection. i would have thought that they would have tried to up the ante and not drop the ball. was that enough cliched phrases for everyone? lol.

ok, i think i've bashed enough... i loved dangerous colony. being thrown into the sky is fun... just as long as you're not going for size. the cosmos was pretty nifty and i liked seadome after i stopped being frustrated by it. it's one of the most unforgiving levels of the game, in my opinion.
