Title: Perceptions
Description: Ever wonder what they think of us?

So one of my projects for Illustration is one themed around travel and we have to incorporate 5 continents/countries/cities into it.
And it got me thinking, naturally, of the world stage in WLK. And I realized that the US is essentially just Hollywood mansions, the White House, and a bunch of Walmarts with the Statue of Liberty off the coast.
I find that kind of funny personally. I know they didn't alot much space for each continent/country to be represented in much depth... but what do the things they *did* choose say about how they view each region? It's kind of interesting to consider.

wlk also has mount rushmore and a loose grand canyon on think.
i think one of the people you roll up is called american guy or something and it's a fat guy with a usa flag shirt.

So... we love our politics and large buildings?

i guess that's the way Japan sees us. I dunno. I try not to read into things like this too deeply.
it would be interesting to see if they ever did katamari that had more regions to it when you were smaller in size so that you could see the locality of it all.

but be careful saying "japan" when the game was made by just a few japanese people.
i agree with you. it does not speak to how these people really see us. it was just pick a couple things from a region (like egypt has more than 3 pyramids and a sphynx).
the things you named are the things shown in our movies all the time as well. plus we def' DO have large stores like walmarts. the us is covered with stores!

I've always thought of it as being part of the game's concept -- the game is cartoonish in every sense of the word. So you've got caricatures rather than something that's trying to show reality. In one sense everybody gets a bum rap -- think how God is portrayed! :lol
On the other hand, Hollywood movies are often the "face" of America for many people. Plus we ARE the world's largest economy, and we DO have a problem with overconsumption and obesity. . . . So maybe there's always some truth to the stereotypes and generalizations :shrug

how about this? the dev's took the typical american stereotypes and placed them in the game. :)

yea! you know when i hear jokes about us though we always have guns. im glad they did NOT add that sterotype. i woulda had to bust a cap! :lol

Keep in mind guys I'm not taking this all that seriously XD; I'm just more amused by yes, the caricature of us.
But what about the other regions? What a bum rap South America got. Not much there but the Nazca lines. Though I'm thankful for the large chunks of land as it helps you build in size quick once you can get them. <3

i forget which game it was, but Canada didn't even exist in it. :lol

Must've been KD because Niagra falls was in WLK. Or maybe it was M&M... I haven't played that one enough to find out. D:
