Title: Headphones
Description: It's like playing a different game

matthew69 - February 26, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
As everyone probably knows, the best way to listen to music is with a good pair of headphones (not ear buds, but old school). The other night I played KD with headphones on and WHOA! it was like a completely different game. I heard sound effects and stuff in the songs that I had never heard before. It also made it sound much more arcade-like. Anyone else ever done this?

s0njas0n - February 26, 2008 06:18 PM (GMT)
no, i've only ever played handhelds and guitar hero with headphones because my parents have an utter hatred for that game. i would need either wireless headphones or an extra long cord for that to work.

I've never played Katamari with headphones, I have played a couple of games though. Unfortunately, I don't have any proper headphones.

my headphones are busted but i know that when listening to music, i could hear more to the song than i could just listening normally. listening to lumines on the psp with headphones while playing is a great experience. that music is awesome.

waxc3 - February 26, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
yea i only use headphones for gaming on the handhelds. (lumines does sound great!)
my consoles are on a multi-thousand dollar sound system so it sounds quite fine (im sure the neighbors do not approve though) without headphones.

i hate earbuds. they physically hurt me no matter what shape and size i try. i grabbed some bose around ear phones from target for like 150 that sound awesome.

the katamari games can have lots of sounds layering at once. sounds good doesnt it matt! :thumbsup

matthew69 - February 26, 2008 11:41 PM (GMT)
It really does bring out the layers of sound. I've done it with my favorite movies on DVD and I'm always impressed with how much I was missing.

waxc3 - February 27, 2008 12:17 AM (GMT)
true.
i still prefer real surround, and deep quaking bass.

what kind of phones you rockin' matt? :cool

I really should try that sometime. :)

You can spend hundreds of dollars on really great headphones; I just have a couple of mediocre pairs (Sony and JVC). But still the sound is wonderful :yes

s0njas0n - February 27, 2008 07:08 PM (GMT)
i'd like some bose headphones, but i'm not paying for them. i gladly accept gifts, though :D well, i just can't see myself spending $100 for some earbuds that i'll probably lose or won't use that much.

vix - February 27, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
i can use earbuds, they hurt my ears too much.

waxc3 - February 27, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
for ear buds, no way! they hurt me too much.
i was fine paying 150 for my bose headphones and i will tell ya why! :smirk there was a demo station set up at target of some bose phones, once i heard the pair that i later bought i KNEW they ruled.
if you ever wear a really a good pair you understand.
just like if you ever drive a mercedes, you get it, you know why they are worth so much.

s0njas0n - February 27, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
no, i get it. i just don't use headphones that much. anyway, whenever i get around to playing m&mk i'll use some i'm sure.

Sony's top of the line earbuds are awesome. I didn't buy them for a long time because I don't use my DS or mp3 player that often, but they're worth it even for the minimal use I get out of them. Extremely comfortable and great sound. These are them:

Sony Earbuds on Amazon

I think I might try Katamari with the headphones on, though I'm not sure how easily I can hook them up to my system.

look nice.
here are the ones i grabbed:
Put em on and rock!

which katamari do you want to use it with? ps2 or 360? are you only using the tv speakers or are you using a stereo system as well?

Maritimus Rain - February 28, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)
I use a surround system, but it stinks. One day I'm going to upgrade to a real deal surround system, but not today.

I'm not sure which game I'd use, although I do have to go back and revisit the PS2 games eventually to see if I'm any better at them now. Whatever I feel like, really.

I do that with MMK, I put on headphones and listen to the music to enjoy the game as much as I can.

matthew69 - March 18, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
Everything on the PSP sounds better with ear buds or headphones. Loco Roco is particularly fun when you can hear all the music and sound effects.

I don't really like the ear buds, they always fall off no matter which cap I put on. Even the other ones that you just insert in your ears. My ears are incredibly tiny.

So I just wear the oldschool ones, they work :)

i've been playing crisis core with headphones and the music is pretty good for the most part. i miss the mako reactor music from ffvii, though. that was one of my favorites for some reason.

Queen of the Cosmos - April 7, 2008 04:21 PM (GMT)
I use to have this great pair of headphones, sure they were huge, but it felt like you were there... O_o

katamari > kalamari - April 7, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
I just use the earbuds that come with iPods.

I would love great headphones though. Maybe I can get some as a birthday present...

s0njas0n - April 7, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
i've been using cheapo headphones, but i'd love some bose ones, any will do... earbuds or headphones. everyone that i've talked to that used the earbuds said the bose ones fit in your ears and they don't hurt. i'm down with that.
