Title: Games that scared you.

A bit different than the Games that made you cry topic.

What games have made you nervous, jump out of your seat, cringe in anticipation of what is in the shadows, or just could not be played in the dark?

Mine (off the top of my head):
Eternal Darkness: the BATH TUB SCENE! scariest thing ever on a screen for me!

Turok 360: last night just being stalked by the t-rex. i am in surround sound with lots of bass, so that thing sounds real. off in the forest, moving around me... and i can not kill them yet!

Half Life: the first time a head crab jumped at me in the air ducts! :lol that gets me EVERYTIME actually!

Half Life 2 (all of them): those black poisonous headcrabs freak me out. i long to hear that tell tale sign of the rattle proving they are dead.

Fear: all of the fear games... but actually I love Alma so much that she fascinates me more than scares me. i do love when things like you turn to climb down the ladder and suddenly she is there in her 7 year old girl look watching you. spooky! and actually the first time she was walking down a hallway in slow motion towards me and everything was blowing up as she passed by... i was nervous and did not run. i stood there watching and blew up!

Doom 3: can not recall exact moments but being with that tiny flashlight in the dark and demons are sneaking around making noises in every corner... hmm, hold a shotgun in the blackness, or just a flashlight... nervous!!!!!

Resident Evil games: that first "dead" shark. those meaty dogs in the window! (how much is that doggy in the window? ewww no not the meaty one!)

i've never really been scared playing a game because i don't really play games that should scare me. i mean i've had a few moments when i jumped, but nothing too major. there was one part in resistance where something came flying through the side of our tunnel and both me and my nephew jump. it was kind of amusing. and half-life 2 when i was walking down a tunnel and a zombie popped out. i would attribute these moments more to surprise than being scared, though. those are the only 2 i can think of but they were in the past couple of weeks so they're fresh in my memory.

games that scared me? XD umm, none... well, except for the Submerged Castle in Pikmin 2 with the Waterwraith... >___>;; but that's about it. I don't play games like that. XD

i was wondering how many of our members will have had spooky experiences.

there are the types sonya experienced, the BOO! moments when you are surprised in a quick fear response.
and there are the spooky games like the silent hill types where the atmosphere is scary, the unknowing of what is coming next, the music grips you...
...plus maybe you are underpowered for the situations you are presented with...

coolness. i am excited to hear more,

there were a few moments in resistance where i got startled but beyond that no since i've never really played any games that have scariness to em.

Those dark caves in the old Pokemon games. The music freaked me out.
And I guess in Half-Life 2, when I'm crawling through a pipe to get some ammo, and I break the crates at the end of it. And a zombie comes out. Caught me off guard.

s0njas0n - February 12, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
ha, marbig sounds like my pipe experience. yeah, it was a pipe not a tunnel, but it was when i was trying to find items to weigh down a ramp. those stupid zombies. :P

halo 3's zombie gametype especially on slow sombies were their invicible and extremely slow (best tried on a small level) and RE4 damn you chainsaws and bladehead I.e chainsaw guys and super zombies

DigitalDuckie - February 13, 2008 12:04 AM (GMT)
Any of them?! D:

I'm such a cautious freak when it comes to playing games. If you ever watch me play Sly Cooper or Spyro I'm always peeking around corners and going real slow and waiting for the bad guy to make his round 3 or 5 times before stepping out into his field of vision.

I know it's not exactly what you meant but it's the best I've got XD;

the first time i played devil may cry and hitman, good use of music made it very atmospheric.

Resident Evil 2. The freaking licker in the police office, first time you see them.
don't really feel a N64/PS1 game needs spoiler tags, so here goes.
You're walking around the police station, zombies are inside, and you get to an empty hallway. You can see out the window, and theres something moving reeeally fast outside.
move around the corner, camera changes, take 2 steps forward, and BAM cutscene where a monster drops from the ceiling, slamming it's tongue through your head.
Game Over.

this was at 2am with the lights off when i was home alone and about 14 years old.

Beyond that, The Suffering scared me to death (i had nightmares about the game)

In condemned the first time everything goes real dark and you start walking down hall you can't see the end of.
