Title: Gaia

vix - February 7, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
since it seems a bunch of us like gaia, here's a gaia thread.

my profile

I'm currently questing for two items:

Chyaku Norisu Scarf
Ancient Katana

that will cost me well over 400,000 gold. :eek

I'm actually questing for more but those are the two main ones at the moment.

my current avi(which can also be seen in my profile here on the board):

Temptress!

I've fallen into things like that before. So many years wasted...

EDIT: I looked into it deeper.

DigitalDuckie - February 7, 2008 09:44 PM (GMT)
Heh... I spend way more time on Gaia doing nothing than I should. I honestly don't know where the time goes when I'm on there because I don't chat too much or play the games... And no one is commissioning avatar art from me for the past couple of weeks (though I just end up doing my own avatar or quick gifts for those in the Avatar Art Sketches thread).

I'm currently questing for the Horns of the Demon and I will be for quite a while since they recently went up to about 2 mil in gold D:
I'm also crossing my fingers that some day the Daily Chance will give me a pair of Liam's Underwear because Liam is full of loser win.

:shrug didn't know you could actually use them in a game? Mines in my sig.

DigitalDuckie - February 7, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)
It's not so much using them in a game as it is as your avatar for a chat site.

Of the few games they do have, your avatar usually just shows up at the top.

Jag - February 7, 2008 09:57 PM (GMT)
Hmm, seems they're e-mail confirmation system is broken.

Arctic Phoenix - February 8, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
I made an account long ago, but forgot about it. Maybe I'll pick it up again seeing that all of you are into it.

vix - February 8, 2008 03:15 AM (GMT)
Jag, to do some new quests, check the announcement page: http://www.gaiaonline.com/news-and-events/

I've spent money on the site as far as the cash shop goes. i've got all the first gen evolving items.

and yeah, i keep hoping for any of the underwear in the daily chance so i can sell it and make some gold.

Jag - February 8, 2008 03:21 AM (GMT)
I'm not going to spend any real money on that. In fact, looking closer, there's actually much less to do than a cursory inspection implies. Besides a few games that net negligible amounts of gold and university credits that seem to have had their uses disabled, there's nothing of any worth to be had.

The World Map is extensive, but it's all shopping and links back to the meager games. It seems like, at one point, Lanzer wanted more things to do, but they're all disabled or Gaia Interactive forgot about them. I don't know if this will actually hold my attention at all, being the relative hermit I am.

Is there any way to get anything good without spending real money or hundreds of hours farming gold?

vix - February 8, 2008 03:30 AM (GMT)
the credits are enabled again.

you go go into towns and walk around and pick up flowers, trash, bugs, etc.

watch movies with friends, build a house, a car...

Jag - February 8, 2008 03:36 AM (GMT)
Okay, thanks for acquainting me with this. I may take another look around, but it really doesn't seem to appeal to my isolationist nature.

I'll kick around it this weekend, but I don't see myself being in it for long.

vix - February 8, 2008 03:48 AM (GMT)
I don't go much to the forums but there's still a lot to do beyond that. there's events too. for xmas, there was caroling for items and orphan stuff. last summer there was a giant water balloon fight. halloween saw a battle of humans and vampires.

Emma-chan - February 8, 2008 03:59 AM (GMT)
I love the events on Gaia... except for the Halloween thing. I guess I didn't like it 'cause I had no idea what to do. XDD plus, I thought the event items were like, totally lame. XD

but Kurisumasu was fun, I liked helping orphans. :3

I'm odd with how I can be active in forums, and then I lose total interest... if I post anywhere, it's ordering from minishops usually. XD I used to try and get free art, but no one wanted to draw me anything anymore, I guess, so I stopped. I'm not willing to pay for any. XP other than that, I kinda hate the forums. XD I randomly post sometimes... and I have a shop where I'm letting ppl take all my old pixels for free... I was selling them a long time ago, then was without internets for a long time and then lost interest. not like many ppl had bought anything, anyway. so they're all free now. XD

vix - February 8, 2008 04:08 AM (GMT)
i only really post in the gaming forum if i do post.

some of the halloween items were ok. others were meh.

Emma-chan - February 8, 2008 04:31 AM (GMT)
ha ha. I've wasted so much gold buying stuff from minishops... XDD it's funneh 'cause I've changed my name several times, so the shops with lists of customers have me listed twice or 3 times. XD

I didn't even earn any, really. I didn't understand anything, so I got bored and didn't care. plus, I figured if I wanted them bad enough, I could get them in the marketplace. XD

this is me right now. i'm not really questing for too much right now though i'd like oculus magica. there are a couple of things i wouldn't mind having, but i don't feel like working for them right now.

s0njas0n - February 8, 2008 02:14 PM (GMT)
tofu, what's your user name on gaia? and you can export your avatar and the image will change with you.

Queen of the Cosmos - February 8, 2008 04:28 PM (GMT)
I'm on Gaia, but I decided to pick a male avatar... XD
I have been on it since 2003

vix - February 8, 2008 05:48 PM (GMT)
one of my mules is male. :lol

DigitalDuckie - February 8, 2008 06:03 PM (GMT)
I loved the Halloween event myself. Mainly because I like vampires. I kind of wish I could switch back and forth though... the vampire avatar is skinnier than a human one so some items fit funny. Mainly the shoes. :\ And I kind of miss being able to change my expression.

I generally hang out in the avatar art thread, a couple of toy threads, and one for Death Note (which has been pushed back a couple of pages now... need to revive that with some more discussion...). I don't mess with my house anymore as it doesn't serve much of a purpose though technically you can use it as a chat room. But none of my friends I'd chat with are on gaia often or long enough and I can just call them or talk on AIM so we can surf elsewhere at the same time >.>;

My mule is a guy too.

He's based off an original character of mine so it's kind of fun to torture him with cute clothes and such XD

s0njas0n - February 8, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
if you really want you can change back into a vampire if you just visit this link... http://www.gaiaonline.com/event/halloween2...ction=cantenter
but i agree with you i liked the eyes, but it looked too skinny.

vix - February 8, 2008 06:21 PM (GMT)
with the type of skin i had at halloween and then being a vampire as well, i had no eyes at all. it was strange looking.

After playing Word Bump to level 80 and earning some Doctorate credits, I have but one question: where the hell do I use them?

Also, I wish I'd gone to level 95 to see what is earned after Doctorate credits.

s0njas0n - February 9, 2008 12:47 AM (GMT)
you talk to edmund at h.r. wesley (one of the shops) and he'll tell you what he'll trade you for your credits. i actually have no idea what you get in exchange, i just know that's what you do.

Jag - February 9, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
Well, thank you. I can buy a Bachelor's Cap. It'll probably be a very long time before I can afford whatever Doctorate credits give you.

Now, is Word Bump the only thing that gives you these special credits, and are there any other special types of currency?

Queen of the Cosmos - February 9, 2008 02:39 AM (GMT)
QUOTE (vix @ Feb 8 2008, 02:48 PM)
one of my mules is male. :lol

My oldest character is female, I have a lot of them...
Althought I use the male more often :P

vix - February 9, 2008 03:06 AM (GMT)
word bump gives you gold and credits.

slots and cards give you tickets but you need tokens to play.

fishing gives you fish and trash and you need a rod and bait to play

puzzles give you gold and an occasional bonus item.

s0njas0n - February 9, 2008 12:36 PM (GMT)
you actually use the tickets as currency in the store at prize and joy. you can't use gold in that store, though you can buy the items in the marketplace if someone is selling them.

the trash and fish you can exchange for various things from old man logan who is at the ole fishing hole, and ink that you get can be used for tattoos from natasha at skin tyte. you can exchange flowers at barton's flower shop, and trash at gambino hat rack. so yeah, pretty much all of the useless stuff can be turned into someone useless stuff.

the tickets are probably the better of all of them to have because of the various items you can get from them.

also, there's this great site www.tektek.org if you ever want to know what is inside gift boxes, what you can exchange for what then they almost always have the info.

this is what you can exchange for the credits (they always give market value):
http://www.tektek.org/gaia/item_search.php...h&s=loc:credits

Queen of the Cosmos - February 9, 2008 05:10 PM (GMT)
Anyone got underwear in the daily chance yet?

DigitalDuckie - February 9, 2008 05:29 PM (GMT)
I wish! D:

I'd love to have Liam's in time for Gaia No Pants day but that's coming up too soon at this rate (Feb 12).

s0njas0n - February 9, 2008 08:00 PM (GMT)
i haven't gotten any, and why haven't i heard about this no pants day? i feel out of the loop.

Jag - February 9, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
I think my first project is going to be playing Word Bump until I can get the 450 Doctorate Credits for a cap and gown. I don't even plan on wearing them, it's just something to do. It will take at least 13 more plays to level 85 (I have 51 Credits now), so it won't take too terribly long.

s0njas0n - February 9, 2008 10:18 PM (GMT)
here are some other quests that vix sent me that you can do if you're bored. they actually give you fairly decent items if you feel like taking the quizzes.

Jag - February 9, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
How are you finding these quests? It seems too convoluted to find any of them.

s0njas0n - February 9, 2008 10:54 PM (GMT)
they're under news and events, but the list i gave you before and the one now should be most of the active ones. most of them shut down after a while. you'll get announcements when there are new quests. that's the best way, just do them when they come out.

vix - February 9, 2008 11:25 PM (GMT)
if i got any of the underwear in the daily chance, i'd sell it on the marketplace for a mint and then i'd be able to get all the items i want.

Jag - February 11, 2008 03:07 AM (GMT)
I watched Deathnote all the way through this weekend so I only played Word Bump twice, but now I have over 100 Doctorate Credits. Only an ungodly amount to go.

Also, is there any way to Save while fishing before filling a bucket? It's so annoying getting 18 items before being able to finish. I didn't realize it needed to be saved the first time and wasted a bait on it along with losing some Orange Guppies. By the way, I suck at fishing.

vix - February 11, 2008 03:12 AM (GMT)
i believe instead of just closing the game, you choose to close it with the X that's in the actual game screen un the upper right. i believe that saves it for you.

s0njas0n - February 11, 2008 03:14 AM (GMT)
if you quit the game, it will save your fish but not your bait, so if you do half a bucket you just get the fish you caught with the half a bucket. it's better than nothing.
