Nice. Phatalerror over at cyberscore has done 14m98cm3mm, which seemed insane since it double the record at the time.

The major thing that helps get that big is getting big enough to get the large trees(need to be around 9m50cm). I've almost gotten that big, but got a stupid floating bear sign or whatever. I should play again, but I hate stages like Ursa and Taurus.

It's possible to get about 16 meters. Once you're big enough, you can snag lots of rocks (behind the baseball field), as well as trees and a giant mushroom (behind the house at the top of the hill) that are just beyond the perimeter of the town. The key is a good route to achieve maximum size ASAP. (Oh, and you can try to snag the falling rocks, but the bears are always mixed in.)

Yes, it's hard to avoid all the bears! But the REAL struggle is getting the Kintaro Bear once you've cleared the trees, because you can't move very fast. It's not as bad as Taurus where you inch along despite endlessly CNRing (fortunately the Holy Cow is slow as dirt too); but in Ursa Major you aren't nearly as fast as the Bear during his initial burst of fear when he retreats quickly away from you. When I got to 14 or 15 meters, I tried numerous times and various methods to get the bear. The most creative was "hiding" on top of the gas station as he approached. No go. He saw me. The only thing that works is chasing him. He gets ahead of you at first, but then notices you behind him for a second time (or third time), which again causes him to freeze for half a second. So you have to go as fast as possible, chasing the Bear, and avoiding all the others.

After failing a dozen times, I began to wonder whether getting the Kintaro Bear is necessary to "win" the level. As we know, the King is thrilled even if we get a tiny bear statue in the first few seconds of the level. But for competitive play (like posting at cyberscore), I wonder if a rule has been established. I wasn't sure, so I played until I got him. (I have a video BTW.)

I also wonder the same thing when you play the level for the max number of objects. Do you have to get the Kintaro Bear as your last object? Here the made-up objective is pretty far removed from what the game requires--so I tend to think that you do NOT need the Kintaro Bear here. But again, maybe this came up a while back on cyberscore?

Any thoughts?

I don't think there's ever been any requirement to end with the kintaro bear on the Ursa Major Diameter and object runs. I never concerned myself much with it anyway. ;)

But it would be the best bear to finish a diameter run on.

Um, can I have those two hours back?
