Title: Katamari stunts
Description: trickin it out / that's how we roll

I've long been curious about what a Katamari game with stunt potential would be like. Ramps, the ability to quick flip in midair, really fast camera movement, and triggers allowing you to rotate the katamari in different directions rapidly (for example LT rotates it counter-clockwise on depth axis, LB rotates it on the vertical one, rapidly)

I already instinctively do stuntlike stuff in my daily rolling. For instance on Schloss Kosmos, after I've made the 12m mark, I beef up to about 24m and then speedrun towards the airport. That little bump where the rocks are is a great ramp, and it's satisfying to then speedrun in midair, land near that little bridge onto the area with the ferris wheel, and then speedrun again and try to pick up everything in that circle while going insanely fast. It was easier to do stuff like this when the camera was faster perhaps.

In the original katamari, I forget what the numeric level was, but when you're rolling in the world and come out of the park area, if you go the "back way" up to the lower city level, there's that farm with chickens just above the cement fishing pier. I love speedrunning up that thing, launching off the ramp up to the farm, then midair speedrunning and trying to land solidly on a chicken. There's nothing more satisfying than dropping out of midair and picking up something with a decisive *thud*

are there any weird, quirky or stuntlike things you get a kick out of doing in any of the games?

i always liked hitting ramps and stuff.

in the snow level in WLK, i hit the igloo and got up onto the ice shelf and got the items up there.

boosting on the mountains always gave me a massive boost into the air resulting in wasted time :(

yea because i am always pressed for time in my need to grow super large, i hated jumping!
i never took time to just enjoy a jump or two.
in BK rolling huge on earth (sch' kos) i find myself catching like 6 seconds of air sometimes off of some random object.
tony hawk would have been proud of me.

real life i used to jump dirtbikes, mountain bikes, inline skates (still), and my suv. never get any combo points there either.

it does suck when airtime's wasted, but in schloss I don't feel too bad since the airport's pretty barren anyway. In lower levels I usually need the plants to get up to the 27m required to pick up everything in the ferris wheel area without bumping into stuff, but SK is great since the weight values are all different...I'm 24m by the time I pick up the sailboats and such, so the jump is really just flair on my way to the next area.

Granted I'm nowhere near the peak scores on that level...I think Tom and everyone else go the other way on that 12m marker.

Hedgomatic, I think your idea is awesome. It would give them a chance to introduce something fresh into the next inevitable release!

You know, if you really want to see a level for katamari stunts, it's the Snowman level (Co-op World) on BK. Once you get up past 300m and head out into the larger area before moving onto picking up entire countries, you can pull off jumps that you wouldn't believe. If you have all the sticks pressing forward, the speed of the katamari so much faster than normal. I have literally jumped across nearly the entire level by accident on more than one occasion.

oOoOh!
I haven't even tried co-op yet. I'll have to give that a go :]
