Title: Burnout Paradise
Description: Evil Game >:(
s0njas0n - January 21, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
Ok, I know this would have probably been started sometime soon anyway... but it's sorta dead here this morning. So, who's getting it?
I should have my copy tomorrow... So I'll be in paradise city for a while if you can't find me. :P
Here are the differences between the Paradise Awards for the PS3 and the Achievements for the 360. The PS3 actually got more.
vix - January 21, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
i can be added to the list of who's getting it, as if you didn't already know that. :D
The Real Prince - January 21, 2008 11:44 PM (GMT)
maybe the febuary 1st+ I'll wait and see
Nelson340 - January 22, 2008 02:16 AM (GMT)
Woah. One more day? I thought it released in Febuary.
(PS: Oddly enough, the demo gave me :prince 's license.)
marbig - January 22, 2008 05:01 AM (GMT)
I want it, but I don't really have the money for it at the moment. I did enter a competition for it on Xbox.com, but it's not likely I'll win that. I can dream, however.

aw, come on... the more the merrier. hope you get it. we can have stat competitions.
waxc3 - January 22, 2008 12:07 PM (GMT)
im a maybe.
kingdom under fire has me so busy and some shooters are coming out soon.
vix - January 22, 2008 06:11 PM (GMT)
i picked it up today. got my code for steel wheels and for the gamespot skinned car(yippie) and will be firing it up shortly.
s0njas0n - January 22, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
don't forget walmart and bestbuy too... you can get free cars with all of those codes.
vix - January 22, 2008 06:50 PM (GMT)
i think those codes are just generic codes cause the gamespot car code is "Gamestop"
steel wheels is a number code though.
EDIT:
So i got the game. I'm putting in the codes for all the sponsor cars:
walmart
gamestop
circuitcity
bestbuy
and then i'm gonna fire up the car and take a drive. good god, this map is huge.
ElTipejoLoco - January 22, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)
That's odd. I read that you needed to have an A license to drive any code-related cars. Which means that you must've already won a bunch of times to get there, since winning twice will get you the D lecense, and then 7 more wins for C... etc.
I think a lot of people will be momentarily frustrated at not being able to drive the cars they want.
Me? I'm not much of a racing/car gamer, so you probably won't see me playing Burnout. That and I don't have a Gold account currently, since I haven't found any X-Box Live cards and don't want to give my dad's credit card information to something that automatically charges to renew your subscription, even if you beg Microsoft not to.
s0njas0n - January 22, 2008 10:47 PM (GMT)
you do need an A license to drive them... i got my d in about 30 minutes just playing around. i upgraded my car and unlocked one, but i have to take it down before i can drive it...
when you unlock the sponsor cars it says you can drive them online right away, but you have to get your A license to drive them in single player.
waxc3 - January 22, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
Burnout Paradise owners here:
??????
ps3 - two (vix was first. sonya.
360 - one (me)
anyone else own dis here item? gonna own it? wanna get owned? gonna get it used? whateve'?
s0njas0n - January 23, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
yeah, i wanna get owned :P... will be doing that tonight i'm sure. actually i was trying to take a nap, i might play again since i was just lying there for an hour and a half and only 20 minutes were asleep... i guess paradise city needs me.
vix - January 23, 2008 03:26 AM (GMT)
yeah, you can unlock the sponsor cars but can't drive em till later. i got a D license and two cars unlocked. i forget the name of it though. 2 of 80 cars so far, heh.
i think i'm up to 4% done so far, lol
waxc3 - January 23, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
i played a little while last night. had fun!
i am at 15% done. seemed like mostly i was just driving around smashing gates and billboards... just exploring like day one with a new GTA game.
i recalled you people talking about power parking so i yanked one out and:

busted one out 100%! :smirk yay!
i have my C license, with 4 more events to get the B. then it will take i bet like 25 events to get an A and a million to get the next one....
s0njas0n - January 23, 2008 01:24 PM (GMT)
as of this morning i have about 305 gate smashes... i dont' remember the other stats too much, but i have 1 more mark on my license before i get upgraded to c, yay! checked my time on the game this morning, well over 7 hrs, lol.
and wax, you only get part of the experience in single player. you unlock the cars and everything, but the multiplayer challenges are where i personally have the most fun. :D

yea... guess i am just used to that.
all the gamefaqs people are saying the same thing about kingdom under fire. i like it a lot as a single player game, but they only like it multiplayer (fyi it is 1000 times easier in a group! :P )
i can only imagine how crazy burnout would be online! maybe one day i can try! :)
so what do you girls think about the new crash? showtime!?
first time i started bouncing down the street with the A button i was like... what the heck is this!? then i had bounced like 4 miles and done 5 million dollars damage... cool, but it took like 4 minutes! :glare
s0njas0n - January 23, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
we apparently set some online records, but to be honest it didn't look very legit. it said i had the record for 2 roads this morning, but i'm sure that won't last long. last night vix had the record for a few, though i don't know how many.
as far as liking the showtime, it's the funkiest thing, it's entertaining to try and set records, but there's not much to it. that's not to say that we won't be spending a long time playing that mode.
also, i added in the ps3 awards and 360 achievements to the first post. :D

ents/ you might have very well had real records! every street will have two records i think. then every event will have its own record.
showtime is funny and enjoyable. i love being able to start a crash mode at any place and anytime... but it is maybe a little too easy? not easy enough right away to get monster scores, but easy to hit 10 cars and refill the meter and hit 10 cars, repeat... traffic spawns like crazy in front of you on most any road.
i used showtime jumps to leave the playing field and get inside of building and under stuff you were not meant to already! i should have taken pictures for you.
try it sometime. use the jump to hop into offroad places that the car could not drive into, like over a fence...
s0njas0n - January 23, 2008 05:42 PM (GMT)
i wrote a whole long thing and it didn't go through, i'm not typing that all again... :(
anyway, i figured you probably wouldn't be able to see it. i'd post the list here, but it's really long.
also, the reason the scores looked fake were because for a street the score would be something like 70,000. so it just seemed low and a little rounded off for an actual high score. if they are the real scores then i suppose i'll be getting beaten soon unless we're the only 2 people with the ps3 version :P

sorry. i hate when that happens!
i can see all of the 360 ones at home on my system. there were no secret ones i dont think. i already have like 9 or 10 too! some were nice and simple like Looking Good - 5 pts - fixed the stupid car once.
i dont know about the high scores then buddy.
on the 360, press up on the dpad and it changes modes. were you in Online Score mode at that moment?
i am guessing you were beating the offline scores which are low and all end in 0000s.
edit: oh i love in the junkyard when you earn or select a car and they DROP it at you! i laughed!!! :lol :thumbsup
s0njas0n - January 23, 2008 05:53 PM (GMT)
yeah, we were online and doing showtime, and i couldn't figure out if it was just recording the best scores for our personal room or worldwide scores because the other scores had random names attatched. i would just think that they would give actual scores of everyone online, but maybe you have to go into a menu or something to do that to see where you are in the leaderboards. i should check it, but we didn't do anything groundbreaking last night, just a lot of exploration...
oh and over in the mountains, i have to figure out how to do multiple barrel rolls off of the ramp where the ramp is right off of the cliff. i almost had 3, but i didn't level out at the end, but getting 2 was so much easier there than the one on the corner of e. crawfor/watt st. wow, is it pitiful that i know the intersection of the jump. :P sounds like i played the demo too much.
waxc3 - January 23, 2008 05:57 PM (GMT)
wow. you know the game pretty well already!
i have landed ZERO barrel rolls :( and one flat spin by accident!
i want to go behind that bus that is blocking a fence that leads up to some house. know what i am talking about? it is teasing me!
the stunt mode part is fun but in the downtown part it sucked for me. i kept wrecking and could not find cool ramps, or would zoom past them all :doh
in the outskirts i loved it!!!
s0njas0n - January 23, 2008 06:04 PM (GMT)
well the part that i was referring to earlier was in the demo and since i played over 7 hrs of the real game in one day alone, you can imagine how much we played the demo... kinda sad actually...
yeah, i agree, in the city i had a hard time getting a multiplier going in stunt mode, i did do one, and i failed one. mountain rd had some awesome jumps, it was a lot of fun.
and i actually don't know which bus you are referring to. i'd need kind of a vicinity to check it out, though. let us know later, it's fun to check things out... while you're at it you should try and do the jump over the building through a ring.... err, maybe vix should tell you, because i can't recall what it was called, but it took me quite a long time to get it right.
vix - January 23, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
showtime reminds me of katamari.
sonya and i finished 38 of the 50 two player online co-op goals i believe. good times, good times.
i'm liking the game.
i have well over 300 gates too, mostly from playing online last night.
i haven't had a chance to play yet today as i was out and about running errands and just got home but now i'm probably gonna fire it up and do some events to up my license.

yea i totally was feeling katamari as i rolled along the streets! good one vix.
it is fun. i am glad you rec it!
i have low 200s on gates. you two are way ahead of me there. i am near the B license first at least... but i think you two will get way more unlocked than i do.
s0njas0n - January 23, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
well, when playing online you can't upgrade your license, so that's why you're ahead there. at least we get to keep our smashes each time.

oh i know. i learned that from you yesterday when you were talking about which cars are A lic' and which are online ready and stuff.
what do you mean keep your smashes? it saves them to the hd?
s0njas0n - January 23, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
they actually weren't available in the online mode, i guess you just have to get the a license, however, i wasn't dying to use them anyway, just nice to have the extra cars :P
in the demo you had to start over everytime you went into the game. you had to do all your smashes, jumps, and billboards each time because it didn't create a save file. in the full game your gates are exactly as you left them last time you played, that's what i mean.
vix - January 23, 2008 08:56 PM (GMT)
i'm 12 wins from a B license

Oh. Did not know what ya meant. Makes sense.
I am off to play now and watch some Attack Of The Show.
waxc3 - January 24, 2008 11:58 AM (GMT)
next day:
i played a little last night while watching this cool show called After Humans on the history channel.
my goal was get my B before bed.
so i am climbing closer a little at a time and just exploring around...
and i have to freakin lose like every event i try... and not having a RETRY does suck! every event i drive past
"You have already completed this event. You may play again but if you wish to upgrade your license find another event." getting the burnout license (after A i guess) will really suck! find and play every event, and they get hard:
Hey here is 30 seconds, go get 2,000,000 in stunts!!! GO!!!! OH you fail! :doh :lol
like the last couple burnout games i think this one will get really challenging and i will quit to play a new game instead of pushing through it.
so then it is 10pm... bed time... oh one more event!
i fail like every race now. i get lost! the compass confuses me sometimes and i just wander around in last place...
now it is 10:15! come on!!!!!!
so i just play marked man, and road rage over and over and find one i had not done!
BEAT IT!!!

yay.... yawn... bedtime kitties...
edit: oh, i see sonya you replied about the bus blocking the gate that blocks the houses... i glazed right over your message before.
okay. i saw it last night again. i will go there and write down where i am or photo the map for you or something. i think it is just a backdrop really. but on the map the road that is totally blocked is drawn out like it exists.
edit2: what are best at? worst at?
i lose most races now. i beat all stunts outside of the city and fail most stunts IN the city.
i win all road rages. i win all marked man. (that sounds funny!)
s0njas0n - January 24, 2008 01:24 PM (GMT)
so is it 26 wins after you get your B license or is that just when you took the picture? the map can be a pain at times, but overall i guess it's ok.
it took me forever to get some of the challenges last night (partly due to the car i was using and partly to lack of sleep :doh) but we finished all 50 for 2-player. this weekend i know we'll be playing with at least one other person so we can do 3 and maybe 4 player challenges. this is a little better than i thought... i guess random matches for 5 and up...
i honestly haven't done that many events. i just got my c license right before i went online again, and got 2 more vehicles. you can play the sponsor cars online at any time if you do an online race set to any license level, so that's pretty cool.
seems like the leaderboards are for friends only, but i haven't really looked into it... oh and my favorite? i don't really have one yet, i'd have to play more, but i do like marked man ok, i've lost my fair share of races, though. i have only done one road rage, but i completed it in about 10 seconds, literally. i imagine i couldn't do that every time, though.

yea i took that photo right when i earned the B, so it will be 26 to get the A, then a whole lot more to the Burnout.
i kept trying to do stunt challenges in the SUV and failed so badly. it did matter! but it rules in the marked man and road rage.
the day before i was driving a little sports car and it was horrible at marked man. one tap and it went flying off the road.
i like the Aggresive cars though. slower, handle wonky at times, but they can check traffic at anytime and can not be pushed off the road easily. slower to boost maybe, but you can fill a 3X boost from wrecking other cars very quickly.
i was losing every race once i became a C. i just get lost. :( i started to follow the compass and that auto-turn signal thing at intersections and they put me in a worse direction everytime.
i just need to see that the finish is west, and just drive west!
it is a slow map to learn for me so far. but a good one. good variety! so many secret roads and hidden paths.
edit: like one time i was in 1st out of 8.
the auto turn signal blinked left and the compass kinda was leaning left so i was like okay.
turn left...
then i see the miles to finish go 1.7m.... 1.9 m... 2.7m... 4.2m... in seconds!
WTH man!!!!? :doh
8th place!!!?
oh great! :frusty
and that happened like everytime after...
:lol i need the goal to be: First one to get totally lost wins! :lol
edit2: here is what i wish was in the game:
1. a horn. a click of the left stick would have made me so happy! i love horn honking in car games. always have...
2. a retry option for events because i get lost and forget where i started from.
3. the ability to go to the options, eatracks, and select what song to play at that moment. plus the ability to back up a music track (you can hit RB to skip ahead, but LB doesnt go back. it should!).
! i think thats it. !
they really of thought of everything it feels so far. very well put together game. I'm D.J. Automica, and that is what I have to say about it. :smirk
s0njas0n - January 24, 2008 03:23 PM (GMT)
i hear you on the suv, that's the one i was using to try and do barrel rolls. we were doing this challenge where you have to do 3 total barrel rolls, and let me tell you, i can barrel roll... i promise. but i swear i tried over an hour to get it and couldn't. i finally just quit. then we try another challenge, get a double barrel roll. can i do it? certainly not. i again tried and tried... then vix was like, "are you using a stunt car?" uh... no actually. i go and switch cars, and i landed the double barrel roll on the first try. it took me more than that to get the 3 on the other ramp, but still the car matters. ugh, i could have saved a couple hours of my life... uh, thanks again, vix for putting up with that, i know i was a pain in the arse last night. :dead
in our race, vix got "winner", and i got "only player to crash"... wow, how exciting. i've also taken a wrong turn in a race and i tried to crash myself out of it, i went all over town just because i knew i had lost, but my car wouldn't total. it seemed kinda weird, but maybe it's to help you if all of the other players are over the finish line. i think i was in the race for about 10 minutes before i finally decided to try and go back and actually finish the race, just so i could do something else. i'm getting some sleep today, maybe i'll enjoy burnout more on a few hours of sleep. i've only gotten about 5 hrs total in the past 2 days.
waxc3 - January 24, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
offline. to quit any event, come to a complete stop and wait.
the challenge will end.
online i dont know if that would do anything.
offline i use it ALL the time.
have you let the game sit unpaused for a few moments before (car stopped)? it is neat. classical music comes on. the screen switches to a roaming view around the city in these sepia tones.
hit any button to come back, to find you car has stalled out... cool.
edit: 5 hours of sleep in two days? you are gonna get sick! unless you are sick, then you are gonna get more sicker! get some sleep miss sonya before you become sickerest. :wonder
s0njas0n - January 24, 2008 03:37 PM (GMT)
ok, i didn't think i crossed the finish line while doing that race, so that's why it ended. thanks for the tip, that will be very useful :D i don't think that would work in online since it's actual people, but the race i set was less than a mile on a straight road anyway, no biggie.
yeah, i've let the car stop before, it kinda gets on my nerves actually. i guess it's kinda cool in it's own way.
i'm not sick, i fear i will get sick if i keep it up. lots of stress and unhealthy habits right now are heading me in the direction of a stomach ulcer. things should calm down in a few weeks, i hope.

cool.
yea the screen saver mode is no biggie, but it is extra. this game has loads of little extras and i respect that stuff. it shows love (or maybe in EA's case shows more slave torture?)
be careful with yourself buddy. know there are people here to lean on.
s0njas0n - January 24, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
it doesn't do the screensaver in online mode either which is nice. we also did a bit of showtime and i still only made it over $1 mil about 25% of the time... it was more entertaining last night than the night before, but still totally random
