elitebeatagents - January 17, 2008 03:24 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... I'd tend to say Elite Beat Agents mainly the You're The Inspiration mission. SPOILER: Seeing the little girl get reunited with the ghost of her father was so touching. :END SPOILERS
:heh

And secondly, the end of Super Paper Mario.

The earliest game I can remember that made me sprout tears (and I mean profusely) was Secret of Mana. I believe there were at least three parts that got to me, and I know the ending had me bawling.

Earlier than that, I can't recall clearly, but there may have been a few. I'd have to go hunt them down and try to remember, but that would require some actual work. And you know how I feel about work.

Other than that, the count is probably low, but within double digits for games that made me cry out of sadness. Much higher if you throw in the ones that did so out of joy. Most recently for sadness was Persona 3, which still gets me worked up if I think about it too much, and the ending theme (Kimi no Kioku) is enough to do the trick. Before that was Shadow of the Colossus, but oddly, not for sadness. Some of the "Battle with Colossus" tracks on the soundtrack make me cry for joy. Especially the ones that are played as you are solving the way to kill a Colossus.

Several. I think Chrono Trigger may have been the first, however, so I'll mention that. And on several parts!

Tear-jerking.

I would've probably cried during Secret of Mana, if I wasn't always playing it with at least two other people. The feelings of competing with others and beating the crud out of monsters as a team was probably too strong and over-powered the sadder moments during the story.

Spoiler about Secret of Mana: I did, however, feel like crud when my main character, the Sprite, had his fate explained during the ending, and then his ghost-like appearance after the credits rolled. Though I think that at the time, my other two friends mocked me for being "the only one that ended up dying from the team," so I didn't cry- it was more like "argh, god damn it argh ARGH CURSE YOU ALL" or something.

I also cried during Seiken Densetsu 3 and Legend of Mana, speaking of the Mana series.

And, uh... I cried during We Love Katamari. Spoiler: The Prince's birth got to me somehow.

At some point, a few games made me cry, but not actually *me and my katamari had some point to this and we love katamari too.*

I cried at the end of Gun when I realized how much money I had spent on a game that took me like 2 hours to beat with no replay value, but that might be a little different from what you guys are talking about.

yea i think she was shooting for... Did you ever have such an emotional investment in a game that the story brought you to tears?

gun was fun for a single play through. i knew to buy it used too though.

The Real Prince - January 18, 2008 11:18 PM (GMT)
their are games that made me wanna cry (secret storyline of sonic next gen) theirs others but I can't remember them

hedgomatic - January 26, 2008 02:32 AM (GMT)
I don't remember explicitly crying, but I have a million moments where that uplifted feeling of fondness mixed with nostalgia sets in. Well-done sequels that responsibly evoke their predecessors can do this, Nintendo frequently does this when they mix game mechanics across franchises, and probably the most compelling thing is when an adventure game has been particularly sadistic and then suddenly plops you back in a starter sandbox or another area that, by comparison, shows a stark contrast of growth / learning-curve conquest that makes you kind of go "awww!" at the area you're back in.

Final Fantasy et all don't quite tug the heartstrings. I tend to think of that sort of melodrama in a cynical kid-brother sort of way that leaves me feeling fond of the characters, but in a teasing sort of way that loves them in spite of themselves. I don't lament their hardships so much as I just let them have their little moment. *shrug*

Okami. _o/

Kasey - February 12, 2008 08:00 AM (GMT)
There have been a few games yea.. not all out bawling but I have gotten teary eyed. I can't name each and every one of them but the ones that stand out are:

Metal Gear Solid 3 When YOU have to pull the trigger on The Boss.

Shadow of the Colossus I got a bit screwed mentally when I noticed that after toppling the pillar onto Cenobia his face is mangled and he only has one eye ;| Then there was the entire ending stream. I still remember the jolt that went through me when I stabbed Phalanx (13) and he fell to the sand.. :\

ICO

Final Fantasy 9 the part where Dagger is pounding on Zidane's chest ;/

and there was the single moment in Final Fantasy X (When Tidus puts his arms around Yuna from behind, on the airship before walking through her)

I think it says alot about the progression of games as a medium for delivering emotional stories and characters. I mean, I've only listed a few here but there have been quite a few games released lately that have REALLY pushed the medium forward and I think it's awesome.

Sorry, rambling..

i think i was supposed to cry in ffvii at the end of disc 1. i actually thought that... if i was supposed to cry in a game, i think this would be it... but i didn't :lol. it was sorta sad, but i guess since i knew what was going to happen before i even started it took some of the shock away? i dunno. but it had the best cinematics of the whole game so far.

sms52 - March 11, 2008 11:07 PM (GMT)
Towards the end of Final Fantasy X I got teary eyed.

you haven't played spm have you wax? it's the one that came out last year for the wii. i haven't gotten to the end of it, though i've never cried at a mario game before, i don't think this would be the first, lol.

waxc3 - April 23, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
oh. i was thinking of the gamecube one...
no i never played any wii game.

edit: i dont like nintendo adding "super" to any of their game titles any longer. that was a super nintendo thing. it seems wrong to me now to continue that.

vix - April 23, 2008 05:08 PM (GMT)
i can honestly say i did not cry at the end of crisis core. :lol
