Title: Cookie Leaderboard
Description: the race to reach the top 10

slo_bro - December 26, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
As of late Christmas: :banban

24. Maritimus Rain - 7,572 cookies
36. SeamonkyNG - 5,630 cookies

10th place is 11,083 cookies

Seeing Seamonky fly up the chart I had to start this thread. It's only a matter of time before one of us (or two) is in the top 10 of the cookie leaderboards :D

As has been pointed out, it would probably be quite a bit harder to reach the top 10 in cookies than the top 10 in Everybody's Katamari. Mostly because some of those folks play online sooooooo much :)

The race is on :mu

i wish i had online to play and get cookies. :( i'm still hoping the free 12 months comes at some point.

s0njas0n - December 26, 2007 02:47 AM (GMT)
well, i have like 1050 cookies... top that :P

slo_bro - December 26, 2007 03:23 AM (GMT)
I'm a moron! I should probably add some more of us to that list, shouldn't I? I can show off my 1950 or so :devil

The highest KOTW-goer I know of other than the two superstars is Katamari > Kalamari, with about 2400.

edit: Oh, I should mention, I'm proud to say that my online connection has been working well enough the past few days for me to play online a bit :woot

Maritimus Rain - December 27, 2007 12:59 AM (GMT)
Only a matter of time? Slobro, you've got a lot more confidence in that than I do. It's rough getting matches when you have that many cookies. Some people take one look at the tally and quit outright. Most quit after I've won 1 or 2 matches. I can't remember the last person I played more than 4 matches with, not counting the time I played a few rounds with s0njas0n. Most of the people playing multiplayer are the ones who are new to the game, and they're (understandably) looking for an easier way to get their 1000 cookie achievement than getting beaten over and over by me. Add all that in with the fact that you get 40 cookies for winning a 3 person match, but only 20 for a 2 person match. If there's not enough people online for a 3 person match, it's almost not worth the time because of the long load times and minimal payoff without getting lucky with a really good royal bonus.

To put it another way, if I was to get into the top ten by playing the rest of my online matches vs 1 other person, it would roughly be the equivalent of me passing Slobro on Everyone's Katamari from where I am now. Can I reach the top ten in cookies? I'd like to, but my expectations are a little lower.

I was probably overconfident :heh Well, I still think you'll both reach the top 10, but there's a ton of work left before that happens.

Martimus - haha, yeah, it was fun playing with you, and although i lost terribly to you most of the time, i gained some tips watching how you roll in multiplayer and it's helped a bit with other matches. i just laugh at the people who try to dash into me all the time, it's not the best to do especially on world because there's too many hills.

Maritimus Rain - December 28, 2007 04:32 AM (GMT)
I guess I'm to the point where I should start sharing some knowledge on multiplayer. I've certainly benefitted from other players advice on single player.

The true key to multiplayer is knowing the items, just like in a normal map. Like on House, some people would look at that map and say "It's like Thunderdome! Grab them while you can!" However, there are legit strategies. For instance, especially when rolling against multiple people, at least 50% of rollers dash into the middle the first chance they get. You're almost always best off letting them, then picking up the rest of the items once they're done. Roll right into the center and you'll usually get hit by someone within the first 5 seconds, and then you're cooked. Also, there are... remembering off the top of my head... 147 items in the middle of the map in house. Vs 1 other player, that means you need 74 items to win unless some get left behind at the end of the match. You can usually approximate how many it will take to win, based on the total number of items on the map, at least on the more finite ones. Street and World have such a large amount of items that you can only go with approximate figures, but House, Neighborhood, and Town all pretty much have an amount of items that is easy to count.

On Town, if you get to 50, you're pretty much bulletproof so long as you can avoid other rollers. Town is also exactly the same every time, unlike Street which varies slightly. If you can memorize the locations of every counted item, you'll have a distinct advantage as you roll up dozens of slightly hidden items while most others are trying to snag the ones walking around. Finally, my super secret, win-every-time trick: always start in the lake. Doesn't matter where you start, go for the lake. Make sure to snag the ones spinning around the buoys. Pick up nearly every item in the lake and you should already be winning by a nice crispy margin. :smirk Get out of there and go for the hidden ones right away (like maybe near the farm house HINT HINT). Now scramble for every other one you can find! Pick up a bunch of items that don't count too, the Clueless Prize is often easy to get on Town because of the favorable ratio of counted to non-counted items.

On Neighborhood, in case anyone doesn't know, knock into the fence under the blackboards, and 5 items will come flying out. I think you can hit every blackboard twice. An excellent way to rack up items while other rollers are busy dashing into each other.

I may add more later. With over 8000 cookies, it's time to give back to the community.

i was already using some of those strategies myself, i think some of it just comes from playing it more. even though i'm not the best at it, i still enjoy playing.

Awesome advice! Thank you MR!!!

SeamonkyNG - January 18, 2008 08:17 PM (GMT)
10,000 Cookies. I plan to get more then that though. I would like to thank sloobro for the help. :D

slo_bro - January 19, 2008 11:49 PM (GMT)
Make that 11,000 :P

I really do enjoy being cookie fodder, in other words usually finishing in last place in order to up the numbers of cookies the other people recieve :)

Meanwhile I've moved up some of the cookie-related leaderboards myself ... I'm about to make it onto the top page in Cookies Thrown and I'm already there in Cookies Collected :D I'm 15th in Cookies Eaten.

You want to see something really impressive on those Cookie boards? I was looking through them one day and I noticed UnworldyKOUJI in the top ten, since I'm pretty sure he's the only one that higher than me on the Cookie board AND Everyone's Katamari. Then I looked flipped through the rest of the Cookie boards, and he's actually in the top ten on every single one. Current total, overall, eaten, thrown, caught, collected, I think there's another one too, and he's in the top ten on all of them. Now that's not easy!

slo_bro - January 20, 2008 11:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I've sure noticed UnworldyKOUJI though I didn't realize he was in the top 10 on every cookie leaderboard! That is impressive.

I noticed that his career cookie total is over 40,000, but he's only got 15,000 in hand. I love it! That means he's spent L O T S of time messing around with his cookies. For one thing he's clearly thrown cookies back and forth with people a ton.

I have the honor to say, UnworldyKOUJI joined my game once :woot after midnight US time. Too bad there was so much lag, then I lost my connection after the level was over, so we only played one match. And he's the one who taught me I can use the emotion icons in the middle of an online match!

(BTW, Seamonky's in the top 10 :woot :thumbsup )
